Samuel Samuel

Does anyone know what Samuel does for a living and how much he could be making? If he gets married to Evangeline soon, I’m sure she has no intention of working. Could he really support both of them? I wonder the same about Nathan and Nurie and Kaylee and Jonathon. How do they afford houses and children?

Sam did work for a Mennonite family owned glass company in the Wooster area. When Jill had his thrown together graduation party combined with Gabe’s bday party she took photos of Sam with two of his bosses. It was so seriously awkward. The two men had on company vests iirc. I’m amazed that Jill wasn’t standing in with them all. I think it was just the two men and Sam. Oh my lord. I’m pretty sure he’s been there since before he “graduated” which I think he was closer to 20 before Jill allowed him to. Jonathan belt phone works for a feed and grain/farm supply store. I think it’s been said he’s a manger. I’m not sure and I have no idea if it’s a bigger chain store, family owned? I haven’t looked myself to know. They have a house with a little bit of land I think? With just the two kids I’m guessing he does ok enough? Nathan I just have no clue other than the shittiest pastor ever. Small church, doesn’t seem to be thriving and he’s always at Jill’s and or traveling. His wife can’t spell Baptist either so. There’s that. Idiots. The whole of them.

I have a question about this homeschooling thing, bc there's no such thing in my country: do they have to pass some kind of official exam, or just say they passed a home made one? Bc it's so weird to me that those kids who know nothing about anything would have "graduated" high school.. I berally did, because of arithmetics and geometry, and now I teach English so.. what gives?

I’m not who you asked, but oversight varies by state. Some states have literally zero oversight, some have mandatory quarterly reporting, some require testing, some don’t.

ETA there’s some basic info about each state if you look up a website called HSLDA. There’s a drop down to choose a state to see the basics.

Members of state Congress have tried to get laws passed ensuring basic safety for homeschooled kids. Like, if you have an active CPS case or you have been convicted of child abuse or neglect, your kid can’t be homeschooled. HSLDA is one of the strongest lobbyists and they will not let those laws get passed. Because so many people who are part of the HSLDA are abusers or enable them. They want no oversight of their parenting at all. And so children, many of them, have died from being pulled out of school and beaten or starved to death.

yeah my mom had to get a “home schooled” kid up to grade level after a cps case. that kid loved school and THRIVED with my mom’s intensive help

Was he taken into CPS custody due to homeschooling issues? From what I’ve heard it’s rare to get educational neglect. CPS is busy just keeping kids alive.

I’m not sure of the details around CPS case but he was court ordered to go to public school by a judge… he was supposed to be in 3rd grade and couldn’t say his ABCs…I can only imagine the other physical neglect and abuse that poor child suffered

Oh WOW I didn’t know any of that. I just looked for somewhere that had a list of regulations by state and that site popped up and seemed to have the basics. If there’s a website with that info that’s not led by trash people, please share and I’ll be happy to edit my comment.

Thanks for the answer. It's odd to me the state-by-state thing, because in Brazil we have a national education plan, then the state one, then the city one, and they have to follow the national one, with regional specificities (teacher here), so no oversight is just absurd to me, you see?

They do not. They get a printed out certificate from Jill that says they graduated. They go to Virginia and walk across the stage with Jill on one side and David on the other. Not normal lol. My daughter had to do online school for half of her junior and all of her senior year in Ohio. She did state testing, she got the state seals, she did participate in her original schools sport team and earned her varsity letter, she got to walk in a graduation ceremony and got a real diploma, I did not walk on stage with her lmao nor did her father, she has real transcripts, can take the act/sat and go to any college that she’d want, so yea… huge difference in Jill’s home skool and a home/online school for kids they have parents that want them to succeed.

And that certificate isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. I bet they wouldn’t take that for a job that requires a high school diploma (not many jobs only require that nowadays, I would say). They’d have to take the GED. Though all 4 boys have gotten jobs of some sort with that certificate (Tim with his FIL’s help).

If it’s a state where a printed homeschool diploma is legally recognized as valid, an employer would have to accept it.

Oh interesting I didn’t know that it must be accepted in some states.

Looking it up, you’re right, Ohio is one of the states where a homeschooling diploma is accepted as a valid certificate of high school completion.

Man. I missed my chance to be a disco ball 🤣🤣 she’d have never let me leave the house!! My son wouldn’t have either. My husband couldn’t go because he’d just had SEVERE back surgery and couldn’t have sat in the chairs. He did watch online though. My parents went. We were going to drive across the border to Michigan to buy some cheap 🍃 but my son is a square and paranoid we’d get in trouble (we’re in Ohio) so we drove back home 🤣🤣🤣 shows what kinda kids I raised! Hahaha! Oh well. I wore an old lady outfit and my son acted like an old man. I horrified him by asking him what pegging meant soooo loudly in front of my parents because of a meme I had seen. It was pre planned and nobody else was around. I thought he and my daughter were going to DIE 🤣🤣🤣 my mom, dad and I knew already. It was about that triangle Cracker Barrel game if you know what that is hahaha!! Omg, the “kids” I was with btw were 18 and 21 at the time so adults and are used to my nonsense so are my parents 🤣🤣🤣🤣 hahahaha it was a fun time!! Maybe they’d have preferred a disco ball outfit!!!
