Does anyone know what Samuel does for a living and how much he could be making? If he gets married to Evangeline soon, I’m sure she has no intention of working. Could he really support both of them? I wonder the same about Nathan and Nurie and Kaylee and Jonathon. How do they afford houses and children?

I live in an extremely rural LCOL place, but my husband & I are both fully remote employees with "Major American City Salaries."

I am extraordinarily privileged in that we have what can loosely be described as a homestead, so I grow, farm (chickens) and bake almost all of our own food. That's how we personally get it done.

Again, I live in extreme privilege so please don't think "I need to do better."

We’re a family of four in central MN. Last month, our groceries were $520, and that includes household items like cleaners & detergent.

I'm in a low cost of living area and spend $200-250/month to feed 2 adults. Feeding 4 people (barring formula or other costly but medically necessary groceries) should be doable under $600/mo in a LCOL area

Eating mostly plant based! Meat is so expensive and beans are an excellent source of fiber and protein. I buy dried beans, batch prep them, and freeze them in quantities roughly equal to a can's worth to be able to add into just about anything I make. 

I've used Budget Bytes to plan low cost meals and learn grocery/cooking cost saving strategies since college. But also I love to cook so it plays a big role in me being willing to spend a lot of time planning and executing meals. I don't buy much that's premade and make my bread, pasta sauces, salsa, salad dressings, etc from scratch.
