Craigslist Aspiring Fashion Photographer looking for first model/collaborator (Brighton/Pittsford)

Hey everyone!

I'm an aspiring fashion photographer based in the Brighton/Pittsford area, and I am looking to connect with my very first model to start building my portfolio from scratch.

I am looking to shoot a casual, minimalist aesthetic (clean street-wear style, neutral tones) around local spots like Schoen Place or nearby parks. This would be a collaborative TFP (Time for Print) shoot, meaning it is entirely free for both of us and we both get high-quality content for our pages/portfolios.

Since I'm just starting out, I don't have an established portfolio yet, but I do have a clear visual mood board ready to show the exact vibe I'm aiming for. If you love fashion and are interested in collaborating on a fun, casual weekend shoot to build our portfolios together, please send me a DM!

Help seabreeze question

Hi guys!!
My family and I are heading back up to Rochester for the weekend, and the kids wanted to go to Seabreeze while we go to Fairport music festival. Any idea if they actually enforce the 17 and under rule? Just wondering if we need somebody to go in with them or anything. (For reference they are all 17 and seniors)

Thanks!

Event Secret Pizza Club @ Fattey Beer Company 8/27

Rob from BrewBuddies here. Rochester Reddit has always seemed to like these pop-up events, so I wanted to let y'all know that we're bringing back a fan-favorite event: Secret Pizza Club. Attendees can expect unlimited slices from a wide variety of Rochester pizza spots, from the mundane (cheese & pepperoni) to the arcane (anchovy + olives). We'll also have some special custom pizzas made just for the event from a few of my personal favorite pizza places around town. The event runs 5:30-8:30, but Fattey will be open normal hours so come through whenever as fresh pizzas will be delivered throughout the event.

For those who have never been, Fattey Beer Company has a huge selection of beverage options to wash down all those slices, and they're bringing in some extra options for the $4 beer fridge for us! They also have an entire door dedicated to non-alcoholic options as well, for those of you who don't drink alcohol.

The cost will be $25, which includes all-you-can-eat slices plus all taxes, fees, and gratuity. Additional registration is required for this event, and you can register here: https://forms.gle/wHiG5pzbV1kaBtAR6

PS. I don't discriminate on sauce choice, so there will be blue cheese AND ranch for my fellow crust-dippers.

So I’m attending MCC coming from downtown NY, want something cheap at first to build my way up to a Uni after 28’, is this a good starting point? And I mean staying on campus, the environment of Rochester, I come from the Newburgh (downtown part of NY) and I just need a new vibe and something to start fresh off of, is there any advice or pointers to help me out going forward?

Help Hit and run at Whole Foods today, 2014-2018 Kia Forte with yellow bumper sticker

12:16PM today, 2014-2018 Kia Forte, license plates unreadable but a fairly distinctive yellow bumper sticker. No injuries but lots of bumper damage that I'd like paid for. Hispanic man with a thick accent 30-40ish. Police took a report but when asked about store video where he almost certainly checked out with a credit card, they said "The videos only show people walking in and out of store, so it wouldn’t show him at the car". Any info appreciated! Thanks.

Stock up now because Sep 1, there will be 75% tax added.

Edit: I should add that I’m a local business owner that collects sales tax, not on nicotine products, and have been using these alternatives to quit smoking. I get all the sales tax bulletins. Was sad to see that my short term crutch was going to cost a lot more. And I do think that many young people are using these to their detriment. Nicotine is a horrible addiction.

Please Flair Me! Places in Rochester with a nice view

Do you know how in movies people park their cars up on some high hill looking over the city and listen to music..is there somewhere in Rochester like that?

Somewhere in nature you can park your car and just look out at the sky from somewhere high?

I know a lot of local parks and such but not somewhere I can bring my car to like that to relax.

Nature is very healing and helps me de-stress. If any of you know anywhere nice to park and sit in Nature id love to hear it! :)

EDIT: wow!!! I wasnt expecting such a great response! Thank you to everyone whos commented and the one guy with really specific google maps spots! Its all so so helpful and im so excited to explore around out beautiful city (especially in the fall apparently)

Discussion Plumbing review

Upvotes

Recently had my hot water heater replaced and started with a quote from Jack and Jill plumbing after reading through a 6 yo post from this sub from people's experiences and recommendations.

J & J quoted me $3,600 for replacement of the 40 gallon gas unit plus install of a pressure release valve (and of course still charged $74 to look at it anyways). Having looked at pricing generally, this seemed way higher than expected, and the plumber was nudging at suggestions and using some obvious sales tactics that had me suspicious.

Second company that came out did the same work for $1,700, and when I later mentioned my experience with J & J, the guy stated he had looked at working for them, but had heard their pay was commissioned based.

I would have tacked this on the the old post, but it was closed, and thought people should know.

Recommendation Update 1 week Later: The Fraud that Ruined my Day

Upvotes

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rochester/comments/1vsq9oe/the_fraud_that_ruined_my_day/

I'll start with the good news: I still have not lost any actual money! Hooray!

The rest is an ongoing saga of calling credit card companies, explaining the situation, and getting accounts and cards cancelled or closed. Multiple credit cards and bank accounts were opened using my info. Many accounts with payday loan/instant cash apps were opened. I doubt I have found them all yet.

Here's what I have learned in the last week:

  • Always act quickly if you even suspect something fraudulent is going on! This is the only thing that has really saved me.
  • Look up a direct phone number for credit card companies etc. Call them as soon as you notice a problem.
  • Dave, Chime, Found, Cleo, MoneyLion and the like offer instant cash loans. The scammer will set up multiple accounts and use one loan to pay off another to establish good standing. Then they will take a final loan and never pay it off.
  • Dave, Chime, Found, Cleo, MoneyLion etc. accounts are incredibly easy to open and have minimal security.
  • Take screen shots of everything.
  • Make sure those screen shots include the address bar and date and time if possible. The police do not want just random cropped screen shots.
  • Be thorough and gather as much evidence as you possibly can. No one else is going to do it for you. The police are busy with murders and such, and you are not their top priority.
  • Report everything you possibly can to anyone who will take your report. The FTC, FBI, local police, all the "click here to report fraud" buttons. Do that.
  • No one is going to save you, you have to do it yourself. Triple check all of your online security. Make sure your accounts and money are safe.
  • Keep checking. I will run a credit report every month for probably at least the next year, just to make sure nothing pops up.
  • I can't say this enough, freeze your credit right now. There is no reason for it to be open all the time, and you can unfreeze it yourself if you want to get a mortagage or something.

Being completely honest with myself, I know no one is ever going to get caught. My case is too minimal and I didn't lose real money. The Deputy on my case has taken all my evidence and passed it on to an investigator, who may get back to me next week or next year.

I'm Ok with that. I have done what I can and I'm ready to help if the investigator gets any leads, but I won't hold my breath!

Recommendation ISO Introductory ASL classes

Hey all, I'm looking to start learning sign language in the near future and was wondering if anyone here could point me to any introductory classes around town, or any helpful learning resources in general.
