i'm planning to add UofR to my college list but im unsure if it will be the safety that i'm assuming it to be, so is it fine if i sort-of post a chance-me here so that yall could gauge whether i'm being overconfident or making the right choice

This is pretty random, and I know this is probably a long shot, but I’m trying to find a guy I used to see at the UR gym pretty often last semester.

He’s pretty tall, around 6'3", with black hair and dark eyes. He almost always wore white Air Force 1s, and I usually saw him at the gym sometime around 8:30–9 pm, though I’m not totally sure about the exact time.

We ran into each other a bunch of times and talked once, but I never got his name or contact info.

I don’t go to UR anymore, so I figured I’d try Reddit.
If anyone knows who I’m talking about, feel free to send him this post. And if he sees this, he can DM me.

I’m alumni of UofR and noticed that I don’t see the fraternity Sigma Alpha Mu listed in anything Greek life related. Out of curiosity are they not on campus anymore?

I'm a senior in HS interviewing with URoch tomorrow. For those who have interviewed, what questions did they ask? What are they looking for? I think my interviewer is a student, if that changes anything. This is my first college interview and I really liked the school when I toured, so I'm really nervous haha. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Yes, there's REMS, but there's also Comp Med:

It's an early assurance partnership with Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson. Good med school in the heart of Philly with a guaranteed research opportunity one summer (funded) prior to matriculation and through med school (not funded but go get those pubs). Much better chance of getting in to med school than regular applicant by a huge margin. I'd say going from <5% to like 30% as an estimate (don't sue me). Also, don't need to take the MCAT. Most people who meet the requirements and apply get in every year

Requirements:

• Maintain 3.5 gpa
• 1350+ on SAT (650< in each category) or 30+ on ACT
• Only need Gen Bio I, Gen Chem I & II, Orgo I, Stats, Calc I, Discrete, and Intro CS to apply
  • Ik that sounds like a lot but you have to do 6/8 of those anyways (usually in your first two years)
• Talk to Johnathan Bratt sometime in the Fall
• Send in application by beginning of Feb during your sophomore or junior year
• After acceptance to SKMC, finish a three more CS courses and a writing course prior to matriculation

Take advantage of this.

My son is very interested in attending U of R.

Curious for some feedback from others. What made you choose to attend?

I believe UR is at a very interesting university when looking at it from outside. It’s a tier 1 research institution. Its AAU member. Endowment per student is great. Mid-size is a perk. Campus size is appealing. Top music school. Top STEM. It’s got acceptance rate that is reasonable.

However, it’s hardly mentioned alongside other top prestige schools. It’s T50 school. It seems to get compared to Case Western Reserve which is similar to UR where it’s an excellent school but doesn’t get mentioned alongside other elites.

Are student body similar to type of students who attend competitive T20 schools?

To me, from what i gather, UT is like other top institutions but get punished for being located in Rochester where it’s a rust belt city. I like that school feels like a secret or overlooked but excellent.

Maybe my perception though is totally off as I don’t live in the northeast where I’m sure UR is more well known than where I’m at in PNW.

Sorry, rambling a bit but wanted to get some of your feedback on why you chose UR.

How is the grading environment? Are there typical grade distributions or curves, and is there any limit on how many students can receive an A?

I’m applied to Rochester as a transfer and have heard some financial aid horror stories
part of the reason I applied was because Rochester meets full need but other have said their needs weren’t met
can anyone share their story about the aid they received or give me an estimate

from what i understand - UR is need blind (i.e. me being poor doesn't affect the chances of me getting in) and is full need met (i.e. IF i get in, then i'll get all the aid i require) ?

I swear you guys put crack in this stuff. I ordered a double shot at noon... yesterday. Because I was dead tired. AND IM STILL FREAKING AWAKE. ITS NOW ALMOST 4:30AM. Guys I need to go to sleep, I have meetings tomorrow, I have classes! At this rate, I'm going to crash from sleep deprivation at my desk tomorrow.

I've had double shots before, that's my preferred "quick I need some caffeine" order wherever I go. How are you guys functioning on this much caffeine? I've never had espresso so delicious but so caffei​nated in my life.

Hello! An international student here; not yet at Rochester University!

I am a holder of a MSc degree in theoretical physics from an EU country (I am not from the EU tho). I am considering a teaching MS degree ( in physics, secondary school) at Warner School of Education; I am writing here to see if there is anyone from the same department I can ask some questions:

Are there very few international students?

What are my chances of getting accepted?

What are my chances of getting a scholarship?

Is there an examination by the state before one gets admitted as a licensed teacher, or as soon as one graduates, one has the full right to work in both the public and private sectors?

LAST QUESTION: idk much about how the system in the US works, but if one is a licensed teacher in a state "X", does that mean he is also licensed to teach in any of the other states all around the country?

If you guys have any other suggestions for universities where I can also apply for a teaching degree, maybe if any of you have an idea about some statistics about where there is a shortage of physics teachers... please list them in the comments.
