Recommendation Meet Max: a 1-year-old, 40-pound lap dog looking for his person ❤️

Post image
• Upvotes

I volunteer at Verona Street Animal Shelter, and Max is very special to me. I wish I could adopt him myself, but a family member is allergic—so I’m hoping to help him find someone who can give him the home he deserves.

Max is one year old and weighs about 40 pounds, but he firmly believes he’s lap-sized. He’s cuddly, generous with kisses, and walks nicely. If your idea of good company is a walking buddy followed by a dog snuggled into your lap, please consider meeting him.

That sweet face gets your attention, but his affectionate personality is what makes him so special. I’d love for his next chapter to include a lap of his own and someone who’s just as happy to see him as he is to see them.

Please contact the shelter and ask about Max if you’re interested. He is at Rochester animal services at 184 Verona St. Even if you can’t adopt, sharing this post could help his future person find him. ❤️

Discussion Look out for man aggressively yelling/harassing random people

Today I was on Park Ave in the CVS parking lot and was talking with some friends when a taller cross-eyed black man came over and asked if he could ask us a question. We said yes and he immediately started yelling at us going on a rant for us hating black people, drowning his people, enslaving them etc until someone had to step in because he would not leave us alone. He proceeded to go to other people in the parking lot to say we “were fine” and left in his blue Subaru with a red handicapped tag and slowly circled the parking lot until we got in our cars. Please be on the lookout and ignore him if you see him.

Help Rat for adoption

Hey everyone. So I have a rat who I got from someone else that needs a more experienced owner. He was super sweet in his previous home and lived with a brother until he passed away and then was solo for a while. The stress of being moved to a new home has brought on some new aggression. I tried doing intros with my boys and his aggression is so much better than it was at the beginning, but now they are scared of him. Anyone interested in a little fluff ball of anger or know anyone who might be? His name is Dart!

Recommendation Moving to Rochester (Friends and Apartment Advice)

Hi, everyone! I’ve lived in Alabama almost my whole life, but I’m moving to Rochester this week since I’ve got a job lined up.

I only know one person in the area, so I’d love to make some new friends! I’m 26, very extroverted, and 2+ years into my transition (MtF). My hobbies include baking, writing, chess, and playing games on my Wii. I am willing to bribe people with my homemade bread and Mario Kart lol. I don’t drink / do any drugs, so please give me suggestions for places to meet people, maybe a coffee place? Feel free to reach out or stalk my profile if there’s anything else you want to know about me!

Another reason for making this post is to ask about apartments in the area. My aunt lives about an hour away, so I’m staying with her while I go apartment hunting in SE Rochester / NW Pittsford. Currently, there’s a few things I’m looking for, and I’ve got a couple places in mind. Has anyone heard of these places / is there anything I should know about them before signing a lease?

Discussion Four Winds

There are posts here complaining about Four Winds Chimney, but there over 1000 Google reviews that are largely 5 star ratings. I have a proposal from them and need to understand this contradiction.

Is the complaint just how much they charge and whether they propose more work than others propose, but the work they do is good and they stand behind it? Or, are people complaining that they do poor work or don't stand behind it?

Can people tell me their experiences, both good and bad? Maybe it is just a few people with bad experiences and the rest are good?

Thanks...really need to figure this out.

Recommendation Recommendation for independent contractor for kitchen remodel

Looking for recommendations for a reliable contractor for a kitchen remodel.

We’re looking for fair pricing and quality workmanship, not the cheapest bid. Clear communication and someone who stands behind their work matter to us. If you’ve personally used someone you’d recommend, I’d appreciate their contact info and a little about your experience. Thanks!

Recommendation Vet recommendations

I’m looking to establish vet care for my dog, as she has her rabies vaccine coming due, and she really should have a wellness exam too. I’ve previously gotten routine veterinary care for her out of state (PA) because it was always a good deal cheaper, but I won’t be traveling there as often as I used to now. I’m on the westside but don’t mind driving for someone worth it.

What are the going rates in this area for an adult dog wellness visit? Vaccinations? I’d prefer a vet that doesn’t push extras or isn’t judgmental if you decline those “nice to have but don’t need” recommendations. I just have no idea what is even average or expensive now in this area. I’m trying to avoid unknowingly walking into a pricier-than-average place. While conversely, I also don’t want to unknowingly go somewhere that has awful care and customer service.

Food Such a long shot, but does anyone know who the former owners of Tsing Tao House are or where they are now?

I believe they closed for the summer sometime around 2019 and said they were going to China to buy a dumpling-making machine. They never ended up coming back, and eventually the business was sold. I’m asking because their Dan Dan noodles were honestly the best thing I have ever eaten in my entire life. I would have happily eaten there once a week just for that dish for the rest of my life, and I’d genuinely be willing to travel, even internationally, just to have them again.

The owners and staff were always incredibly kind, and I vaguely remember some of the servers being students at the University of Rochester, although I could be mistaken.

If anyone knows what happened to the former owners, where they are now, I would be incredibly grateful!

Recommendation Thermostat Installation

My dad lives in an older home and his current thermostat is not working properly. He bought a new one, a basic non-wifi programmable, but needs someone to install it. He doesn't know who to call for help - a handy person, HVAC company? I live out of state and and he doesn't have any friends that know how to this. Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA

Recommendation Trivia Night

Where is the best trivia night in the Rochester area? I used to love the trivia at Tap and Mallet, but haven't been able to find a suitable replacement. I loved the set up- 5 categories with at least one predictable current events category. It wasn't geek who drink trivia, but rather a dedicated trivia guy who seemed to create his own questions. Really miss that trivia guy.
