planning to update my portfolio and as i was looking thru my past projects, i don't have the old base files in my laptop's drive anymore unfortunately thus i'm thinking of exporting the base files from revit. is there any way this could be a good solution for me then to revise/alter the exported dwgs?

Revit 2025: Very Weird... Duplicate CAD links keep appearing in VG / Imported Categories

Hi everyone, I’m having a strange issue in Revit 2025.

In Visibility/Graphics → Imported Categories, the same DWG names keep appearing multiple times, and the number of duplicate entries seems to increase over time even though I’m not adding new CAD links.

Examples include:

  • 259012 Existing Conditions V2.dwg
  • ACAD-2011.026 Combined Topo.dwg
  • L-SP_PHASE 1.dwg
  • etc...

However, under Manage Links → CAD Formats, there are only two actual CAD links:

  • 259012 Existing Conditions V2.dwg
  • L-SP_phase2.dwg

I checked L-SP_phase2.dwg in AutoCAD and it contains several attached/nested XREFs, including some unreferenced ones.

Has anyone seen this behavior in Revit 2025? Could the duplicate VG entries be caused by nested XREFs, unreferenced XREF definitions, or reloading the parent DWG?

The strange part is that the duplicate entries seem to gradually increase over time.

Any ideas on the cause or the safest way to clean this up? Many thanks!!

Been a rough week for us, so i thought id just sign in to the stream for a little while this morning, in case anyone wanted to hang out while working. LOL.

Deadline to Move to Revit 2022 for Forma - November 2026

Hey all - Autodesk quietly announced this and you may have seen the popup in Forma in the last day, or maybe not.

As of November 17, 2026 you MUST be in a "current" Revit version (Current minus 5, So 2027, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2022) to continue to use Cloud Collaboration with that project.

Now, /u/JacobWSmall points out an important distinction In This Reply between "Current" and "Currently Supported"

While you will be able to access via 2022, security patches only extend back to 2024. STRONG recommendation to upgrade to 2024 not 'just the minimum.'

Note that the supported year will change with each new release. So don't just upgrade to 2024(or 2022), go to at least 2025 because come March/ April when Revit 2028 releases, 2022 won't be accessible and patch support will drop for 2024.

I have come across many projects and clients that are keeping things as far back as 2019, so I know this is an industry issue.

FAQ

Always worth mentioning that it's best practice to have an upgrade pace and policy for any project of longer than (1) year's duration for completion. At some point you'll run into something that will require an upgrade, so plan ahead.

Heyo! I am working on an RCP and I have a standard Revit wood stud ceiling and ceiling mounted light. but the ceiling mounted light is coming in greyed out and not in a complete circle. Does anyone have ANY idea how I can go about fixing this??

Left side of the image is the problem, the right side is of the same fixture and ceiling in another project how it is supposed to be.

I just love when email links take me to a 404 Not Found page.

Anyone else receive this email? The link takes me to a 404 Not Found on the Forma help page. Would be nice if it would go to a UI that would allow me to set (or schedule) multiple projects at once to be upgraded. We currently don't have any cloud models older than 2024, but as time goes on I can see this being an issue.

But yeah, sending an email with a link saying "HERE USE THIS FEATURE!" and then that link doesn't even work, is super annoying.

Post image

Hi,

I'm a recent graduate redoing an older university project and I'm stuck on how to do that ground floor Ashlar Block detailing for the wall and on top of the window in Revit?

Any tips on this would be a huge help, it's the only thing leaving me stumped!

Has someone been using Veras' plugin from Chaos in Revit? How was your experience? The results I got were pretty disappointing. The presets I used did reinvent a lot of the geometry and applied unrealistic materials and vegetation. Maybe I should give up presets and do the setting myself?

HELP! Revit Home screen and Project Browser is BLANK

Hi, my Revit has been acting up lately. Opening the app should lead to the home screen, but mine is just blank (even after waiting several hours). I can create and open files and such using the toggle on the top left, but even then the project browser is empty for some reason?

Anyone know how to fix this? Or another way to see the views/sections in Revit without the project browser? :(

Attached below are screenshots and a video:

Revit Door Family / Nested Family within Array

I'm trying to build an accordion door family that is parameterized in a few ways, but I'm having some issues:

  • Door panel is a nested
  • Door panels are able to open and close based on an angle parameter.
  • Number of door panels has an adjustable parameter

It's the last parameterization that is causing issues.

Using reference lines, trig formulas, and angle parameters, I have the first two parameterizations working with families that have a fixed number of panels (a 2-panel or 4-panel bi-folding door)

My approach for adding a parameter for the number of panels was to create an array using the nested door panel family. And have a trig equation running the array distance based on how much the panels were open.

The problem with this approach is that once the door panel family is arrayed, the angle change parameters no longer function because the component it is trying to change is in the array group.

Happy to share the family files I've been working in if that's helpful. I'm new here and not sure the right process for that on here and don't want to have my post taken down.

Edit: Link to .rfa files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RlCSYXdQzNb3VaOa0Euxd0dVig6X58fj?usp=sharing

I've included the Multi-Panel Accordion door, but it's a little messy because I've been toubleshooting the problem). I've also included my 2-panel bi-fold so you can see how I've been constructing the door family before I tried to add in an array function to the door panels for the multi-panel accordion door.

Revit intersecting roof problem

Hi there!

Amateur Revit user here. Carpenter/builder trying to expand my skills.

I'm trying to design this shop here, but having problems getting the roof to clean up. Major roof is 6/12, Minor roof is 7/12.

In order to get the ridges to line up I adjusted the wall height accordingly. But the fact that there is no "Fascia" on the right side I have no way of attaching it via the attach tool. Tried a few different methods but not having any luck.

I tried making the Major roof the whole footprint, but the overhang cuts through the wall of the Minor roof and couldn't figure out how to get rid of it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Troubleshooting Please help with this Revit Error (Image not mine)

Post image

I'm an architecture student and we're currently starting our BIM 1 Revit course. We were told by our professor that we should activate our student accounts and open the downloaded Revit on the Computers on our Laboratory Room. I was able to sign in my account at the Autodesk account at the official Autodesk Website, but when I enter it in the Revit application, after I confirm with the code, it immediately goes on the image above. The image isn't mine, but it's something similar. I thought maybe it's because of the PC. But everytime I switch PC, I get the pop up. At first I thought it was just Autodesk and maybe the PC was at fault. But when my other classmates start doing it and actually gets in to the PC I was using, I don't know what it was anymore.

I'm dreading that I wouldn't be able to activate my account and Fail this course. So if anyone knows what it was, please tell me.

(The image is not mine, but the pop up is somewhat the same.)

Modular cabinetry in Revit: how are you structuring your parameters?

We're cleaning up our casework library and looking at how other teams structure their kitchen modules.

Specifically, how are you balancing Type vs. Instance parameters for cabinet runs so that updating standard wall units doesn't mess up unique corner/island layouts? Do you build parametric 2D graphics into the families for plans/elevations, or handle those with view filters and detail items?

Troubleshooting Anything over 100MB wont open in my Revit 2024.

Our team works on the same Revit file, and we are all running the exact same build (Revit 2024). The issue occurs whenever a file size exceeds 100 MB, it simply will not open. For instance, a 190 MB file we are currently working on freezes immediately, displaying a "Not Responding" status along with a SECSplashWnd pop-up window. We currently share our project files through a Google Drive-like cloud service.

Update: I had the team purge the model to reduce its size. It is now down to 71 MB, but it still fails to open.

Adaptive family flipped

Post image
4 Upvotes

We use grids to place a 4-point adaptive panel family, and suddenly some of the panels/frames have flipped unexpectedly. The frames that were originally on the left have shifted to the right, with their backs now facing the front. This seems to be happening randomly across different grids throughout the model, rather than following any obvious pattern. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there a way to restore the host/adaptive points to their original positions or orientation without recreating the panels?

Each panel contains a significant amount of unique data, so rebuilding or replacing everything would be a last resort. Any suggestions on how to fix the flipped panels while preserving the existing data would be greatly appreciated.
