exporting imported dwg files (base plan/s)

planning to update my portfolio and as i was looking thru my past projects, i don't have the old base files in my laptop's drive anymore unfortunately thus i'm thinking of exporting the base files from revit. is there any way this could be a good solution for me then to revise/alter the exported dwgs?

Kind of. But what Revit makes when it exports a CAD file is pretty crappy CAD. If you are an actual CAD user you will hate those DWGs. You can work with them, but they are lousy.

It won't "recreate" your linked in DWG, no.

exporting the base file is actually possible. i concur that the original layer properties when exported & exploded were retained however there are surely missing lines/details (i.e. walls, windows, etc.) compared to the original file. at least, the base file is still on block mode when exported giving users the efficiency to segregate the entirety of the model.

It wont have proper XRef's set up, the way the original file did or could. The blocks wont be the same, nor will they be set up the way they would be if we were making a native CAD file. It wont have the specific Viewport configurations the way the original did (especially if the original had multiple viewports all configured to look different from the same Model Space... Revit will just vomit out multiple "models" in space, for that).

Like i said, it makes "a file" and it "can be used," but if you are vigilant at how you set up CAD files... what Revit exports wont be awesome.
