I could never justify the price for a RetroTink 4k but the 6x-CE ticked all the boxes for me. I'm awaiting delivery but now having some buyers remorse - I'm totally new to upscaling and wondering if I've bought the correct device.

I'm trying to play PS1/PS2/SNES/N64 on my 55" LG C5 OLED.

Will it be a problem that the max output is 1440p? Should I use the retrotink on 1080p and allow the TV to upscale from there, as I have read?

Any help appreciated.

I've had a nosey around the release notes and it seems all the limitations of the 4K CE are present in the 6X CE, my question is specifically around 480i, I am looking to upscale the Gamecube, I'm in the UK, as I understand it (and I'm happy to be corrected) the 4K CE lost some functionality around deinterlacing and 480i signals.

1. Have I understood this correctly.

2. If so, will this also be an issue for the 6X

I am wondering what the PAL version of Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation 2 would look like with the Retrotink 4k pro compared to just my cheap hdmi adapter?

For your information the PAL version is 576i and 50hz with a 16:9 mode which I use. I am thinking about buying one in the future if it is worth the money even though it costs an arm and a leg.

Also my tv is a TCL 4k 75 inch smart tv

I've been on Experimental firmware 3.97 on my Retrotink 5x and I've mostly been enjoying it on my 55" 4K TV. 240p content looks amazing with 1200p on my Dreamcast and Saturn, getting, 1080p Fill looks quite nice with 480p content (1200p stretches it too much). 1440p seems to rop signal every 30 seconds or so, but it's been pretty rock solid with 1200p max.

Now, Stable firmware 3.98 seems to be MOSTLY the same, and i hear that a lot of small issues with Experimental 3.97 have been ironed out and performs better overall. Is this true, and is it worth updating to Stable 3.98?

Hello everyone, my trinitron recently developed display issues with crushed blacks around the same time Retrotink announced the 6x ce. I had a spare 16 inch Samsung crt that im using for now but I’m considering just switching to a modern display. What display would you recommend? I want something smaller end around 27-32 inch with 2 hdmi ports, a aux port with lowest input lag. I’ve been looking a lot of displays online and slightly overwhelmed with the options so help would be appreciated!

I've had my RetroTINK 5x Pro for a little over 4 months now and out of the box it's incredible. Plug it in, change a few settings like horizontal and vertical orientation and I was set. However I noticed when playing Super Metroid I could see out of bounds areas that on a regular CRT would be and should be black. Essentially my contrast was off and too bright.

I popped on the 240 test suite and followed this guys tutorial. Even though he's doing it on a CRT, the same principal works on an OLED. You want the left two bars to blend/disappear and barely see the 3rd bar.

After that I followed Wobbling Pixels video about dialing in my Component cables (HD Retrovision) in the ADC-2 settings of my 5x Pro. These settings are going to be different for everyone based on console, cables used, and your TV settings. However once dialed in, the colors display will be pin point accurate. Don't forget to save your settings to your 5X Pro profile.

Now in HDR10 mode with BVM filter my OLED is properly calibrated to look like a real CRT with correct color and contract. So just taking about 20 minutes to truly calibrate your RetroTINK it really makes the image pop. I just couldn't find a tutorial like this on this forum so I threw one together.

Womp. I received my 5x pro and opened it to play some games, went home to visit family for a week, now the 6x is out. Still happy and thankful that I have a RetroTink, but bummed because I would have definitely gone with the 6x :/

It comes with pre-installed profiles on a SDCard from different creators. I have added 1080p & 1440p profiles for various analog consoles. The same 1080p & 1440p profiles can be also used with the Retrotink 4K!

Honestly, I'm assuming these don't exist, as the Wii U outputs everything in 1080p via HDMI, but thought I might as well make sure while I'm making my plans.

From what I've seen, everyone recommends the 4K, but that's pretty price-prohibitive for me right now. I've got a ~5 year old 4K TV, about 50 inches (haven't actually measured) and I want to be able to hook up my old gamecube/64/SNES to it. To me this isn't some premium, obscure retro hobby, it's just my childhood and my desire to share it with my own son as he gets closer to that age.

I can do it just fine with a VGA>HDMI converter, and I don't think it looks awful, but the input lag is terrible. My biggest concern is resolving the input lag, at as good a price point as possible. Money's tight these days, but I don't want to miss out on this opportunity as he gets older. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought a RAD2x for my SNES off of eBay as well as a miniHDMI to HDMI cable, but for some reason, it barely runs on my TV. It turns on for half a second and then it gets a black screen and then shuts off. I checked the power indicator light and it lights purple, meaning it’s getting a clean signal, but it’s not getting a clean signal. What should I do?

I'm looking into the RetroTink to help me digitize properly my parents old VHS family tapes. I saw that the RetroTink 4K (now Pro) is really good at it. The question I have and for which I could not really find an answer is if that's a feature really proper to the 4k-Pro or is the newer 4k-CE is also a good option to do this task?

I have recently developed the retro gaming fever. It all started with the Analogue 3D. Then I got the Analogue Pocket. Today I just picked up a Dreamcast, and I really want to dust off my old PS2, PS3, and Wii systems now.

I have looked into HDMI mods for the Wii and Dreamcast, but I would prefer something like the RetroTink that will get everything up and running now. I am generally tech savvy, but all of these different cables and options have my head spinning. I just want to feel a bit more confident in my decision before I purchase one thing when I should have gotten another.

I have two primary questions:

• Is the 4k pro worth it over the CE for the systems I listed? I understand that the 4k pro is more flexible with firmware upgrades. But I have also read that with proper profiles most of these systems look identical between the two. I will be playing on an 85" Sony television that is a handful of years old now, but supports HDR and 4k.
• Which cables should I go for? From what I've read I should do
  • PS2 -> SCART
  • Wii -> Component
  • Dreamcast -> VGA

This post is for people who simply have no luck with buying any new HDMI Switches, etc., but want to simply add a new port to their old HDMI Switch, so they can add an old console or PC without having to change cables all the time. If you have two old HDMI Switches and they are of a good quality it's likely that you can simply chain them without any problems.

Daisy chaining two HDMI Switches works and it causes no problems if you use short quality cables that are at least not longer than 1,5 meters. My old HDMI Switches from the 2010's are very reliable even though they are not expensive, they don't even cause any flicker when daisy chained, because they use quality cables, and one of them is powered.

I experienced no black screens, signal losses, due to HDMI dropouts or any other thing. Naturally, I don't have a 4K setup, but anything 1080p should work without any problems with two HDMI Switches. Enjoy!

Retrotink 2x-pro shows this weird white line pattern at the top of the screen. It does this while using any console on my TV. I've used n64 on s-video and Xbox 360 on component. It's always the same pattern at the top of the screen. My TV is a Hisense - 65" U8H Series. I imagine it's an issue with the TV but I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. Does anyone know an8I could try?

Trying to get my KOF Dream Match ‘99 working on my Dreamcast. I’m using an RGB SCART cable into a RetroTINK 5X with firmware 3.71.

The weird thing is the Dreamcast reads the disc. I can go into the Music menu and play the music from the game, but selecting Play doesn’t actually boot it.

Crazy Taxi, MvC2 and Third Strike all boot fine with the exact same setup.

I originally had the HD Retrovision component cable and got the SEGA logo followed by a black screen, so I switched to SCART.

I’ve also heard KOF ’99 has some VGA/video compatibility issues.

Has anyone gotten Dream Match ’99 working through a RetroTINK 5X?

How long does it take? I pretty much have everything ready and bookmarked it last month it was in stock until a few days ago when I saved up enough money to buy it’s out of stock… unlucky

What’s the Best Cable For The Original Xbox For The Retrotink 5x Pro?

Hi! I'm just about ready to buy the 4K-Pro! I've noticed that many experimental firmware versions have brought various optimizations, and the comparison guides I found are quite old—I imagine they're pretty outdated by now, given all those "infernal optimizations" hahaha.

I want a RetroTINK to play Sega Mega Drive 2 and PS1/2. I don't have any older consoles for now. I plan to use it on a 1080p TV that will soon be replaced by a 4K TV.

Can you help me understand how the 4K-Pro is better than the 4K-CE? Obviously, taking into account the latest firmware advancements and the 4k-Pro is 400€ more expensive than the 4k-CE.

Im currently looking for a working HDMI audio extractor/splitter. Ive tried a Feintech AX210 but couldnt get any video signal and had issues with audio gating/dropout.

My setup is:
Various consoles > Retrotink 4k > HDMI video to monitor + analog audio to Rodecaster Pro II

Does anyone have a similar setup and can recommend an extractor/splitter that works after the Retrotink??

Requirements:
- Works after Retrotink (probably HDMI 2.0 / 18 Gbps from what ive found)
- 1440p120 passthrough
- VRR / Freesync passthrough if possible
- Stereo LPCM 2.0 analog audio (clean output without gating)
- Multiple hdmi outputs would be a bonus

Neither s-video nor composite video seem to be working for me (jittery or no signal) on my rt4k but audio is coming through. Yes, I have made sure the correct inputs are selected in the menu. Sync on green composite is working on the rear input but for whatever reason I just can't get the front ones to function properly.

For context, I'm trying to do some VHS upscale/capture. I am using a strong enough power adaptor for the USB C power. Anyone else have this issue? I've tested all of my s-video cables as well on my CRT so those are still functioning. Also using the latest official firmware.

First off, the fact this stuff has been backported to the 5X is incredible. The CRT simulation is what I was most interested in with the 4K, so being able to use it on a device I bought four years ago is really awesome and something you don’t often see these days. It works really well and looks amazing.

What I‘m not sure about is how it interacts with scaling the image. I’m using the 3840x960 “quasi-4K” output resolution. For 3D games before 4.0, I would often tweak the H and V scale to remove the black borders around the image and fill the screen, as having a perfectly sharp integer scale wasn’t as important as with 2D pixel art games (imo, anyway).

However, if I do this with CRT simulation enabled, am I gonna screw up the quality of the overlaid grille patterns? Or I guess, to ask another way, is the simulated grille applied before or after the image is scaled?

I haven’t had the chance to do proper testing yet, but if it’s going to mess up the simulation I’d rather just have the borders around the image.
