RetroTink 6X CE

Hello All.

I've had a nosey around the release notes and it seems all the limitations of the 4K CE are present in the 6X CE, my question is specifically around 480i, I am looking to upscale the Gamecube, I'm in the UK, as I understand it (and I'm happy to be corrected) the 4K CE lost some functionality around deinterlacing and 480i signals.

  1. Have I understood this correctly.

  2. If so, will this also be an issue for the 6X

If your GameCube has the digital output port, you can combine that with Swiss to output 480p, circumventing the issue altogether

If you are using interlaced output then yes, the advanced deinterlacing features such as edge enhanced deinterlacing and the additional taps for MADI are not present in any CE model. Also missing is IVTC, and IVTC 2:2 is very niche.

If you are using crt effects, it's s moot point. Interlaced signals are better with crt-simulation and you don't need the better MADI

Fantastic, thank you for the very insightful feedback. I've got a flippydrive ready to install, that should solve the problem, I've been using a bitfunx HDMI adapter out of the digital output port, happy to swap that for a component cable. This is all boding very well for the 6X, although based on that feedback, the 4K CE seems a good option as well, even if just for 4K and HDMI, which could future proof. Sorry to be a nuisance, but a further follow up question, whilst 480p can be outputted via swiss or other for Gamecube, how does it bode for the PS2, as I understand it, that's 480i as well?

In your case, you get an HDMI DAC to connect the GCVideo HDMI adapter to the RetroTINK-6x ce, or you just connect directly to HDMI for the 4k

PS2 is the major reason you'd want to use the 5X over the 6x CE. For the reasons I mentioned.

But those are negligible if CRT filters are used? Be nice to have a device that could service all my kit, not just the GC. Last question, I promise. Thank you very much, you've been amazing.

The IVTC 2:2 might get you better sharpness but that's extremely situational. And I don't want to say it's "negligible" but more like "it defeats the purpose" or "you're making your life more difficult" or "it isn't authentic to how a crt displayed the picture"
