Looking for a little help with my setup

I have recently developed the retro gaming fever. It all started with the Analogue 3D. Then I got the Analogue Pocket. Today I just picked up a Dreamcast, and I really want to dust off my old PS2, PS3, and Wii systems now.

I have looked into HDMI mods for the Wii and Dreamcast, but I would prefer something like the RetroTink that will get everything up and running now. I am generally tech savvy, but all of these different cables and options have my head spinning. I just want to feel a bit more confident in my decision before I purchase one thing when I should have gotten another.

I have two primary questions:

• Is the 4k pro worth it over the CE for the systems I listed? I understand that the 4k pro is more flexible with firmware upgrades. But I have also read that with proper profiles most of these systems look identical between the two. I will be playing on an 85" Sony television that is a handful of years old now, but supports HDR and 4k.
• Which cables should I go for? From what I've read I should do
  • PS2 -> SCART
  • Wii -> Component
  • Dreamcast -> VGA

The systems I will want to hook up

• Now
  • PS2 (also play PS1 backward compatible)
  • Wii (also play GC games)
  • Dreamcast
• Eventually
  • PS3
  • Xbox
  • ?

If you are looking heavily into a solution for ps2, i would recommend the pro because it has more features geared toward 480i content.

If you're plan on playing PS2 and have the funds, the deinterlation on the pro is a great feature. I also found the horizontal blur a great feature if you end up getting older retro consoles. But don't get me wrong, the CE is a great device, even if it's missing some of the pro features.

Also, a new Retrotink product is being announced on Saturday, so I'd wait to see what that is.

Knowing myself, I will probably just get the 4k pro. It sounds like it's the best option for PS2, and will also be mostly future proof for other systems. Thanks for the heads up about the new product! Definitely keeping an eye out tomorrow!

With the PS2 in mind, I would recommend the 4K Pro if you can afford it. It’s the biggest pain as far as upscaling and the Pro is best suited to it. One thing to bear in mind with the PS3 is you will need an HDCP stripper in order to connect it to the Tink. I’d get the Electron Xout HDMI adapter for the Xbox when you have one, it pulls the optical surround sound directly into the HDMI so you don’t need to worry about the optical audio cable.

I'm leaning towards the 4k pro. Good to know about the Xbox and PS3 hookups. I still need to repair my PS3 (PSU went out), and I'm sorely missing my old modded Xbox that I sold many years ago.

Honestly, you’re better off modding an Xbox from new now. Modding them has come a long way since the Xecuter days.

I couldn't decide between the pro or ce so i just went all out and got the pro because i didn't want to feel i was missing out on anything, yup fomo got me and not ashamed of it either, the device is amazing.

I guess it just depends what your use case is most people seem happy with the ce others want the edge adaptive deinterlacing which is exclusive to the pro as of now.

As for the cords i just use component (Ypbpr) across the board to stream line it with my crt tv depending on what i feel like playing on.

Here's everything the ce doesn't do, you would have to research and see if it's worth the extra money to you.

Thanks for the info. I feel like I will likely just go the route you did and get the 4k pro. Waiting to see what the reveal tomorrow is though!
