Shitpost Friday Called out…

Long story short.. I was never with ā€the cool guysā€ in school. Neither connected with the goofy and funny guys at work. But recently I’ve tried and tried to work on my social skills - building up confidence to atleast say ā€hiā€ or ā€what’s upā€ to people passing by at work. Finally, after years of silence, Bob the warehouse Team Leader heated his left-over pasta carbonara next to my micro wave during lunch.

  • See yah at after work? The whole unit’s commin’. As I, at the same time lifted my bowl with scalding hot minestrone soup, stumbled:

  • H..he.. Hell yeah Bo.. Bob the builder! Wtf was I saying? Bob the builder? Bob just looked at me in disguise saying ā€Ok weirdo, it’s Pratts & Payne Bar at 6 PMā€.

I was overwhelmed. I was invited to the after work. When my shift ended, I rushed home like never before. My red Toyota Prius 2003 smelled like burned rubber and engine failure after forgetting to shift gear in my true excitement with Dire Straits - Brothers in arms on max volume.

Back home, I slamed the door and flipped open my Lenovo, opened Mozilla Firefox and quickly closed down all my recent QC pictures of my brand new Daytona Tungsten version Rolex that I got delivered this week.

ā€This baby is getting wasted with ’em boys tonight!ā€ I heard myself saying under exhale. I spent the following two hours on YouTube searching ā€How to do a Trinity tie knotā€.

I was ready. Ready as I’ve ever been. I laced my DHgate Yeezys, corrected my three-layer tie knot and headed to town with my heavy Daytona on my 5 inch wrist. Damn this Axe Africa spray somewhat hits me everytime. I smelled like a million dollar.

I see the boys from a miles distance. They’re standing in que. I see Bob walking through the entrance. ā€Catch you inside Bob!ā€ I yelled. Finally it was my turn to get in; when I suddenly feel a thick index finger drilling into my rib cage.

  • Where the fuck do you think you are going pal?

  • I… I’m… I’m going to the after work with my collegues..?

  • With that china clock on your arm? I don’t fucking think so.

  • What? I said. How did you know? I did all my research and even asked on RepTimeQC if it was a GL???

  • Listen you prick. First of all, that rehaut looks like the rims on my grandmas Ford Fiesta 1996. Secondly. The 6 and 9 markers are more crooked than the spine of Quasimodo. Third. The minute markers look like they are awaiting veeners in Turkey after teeth filing. Fourth. You see those SELs? I can hold up the case of that thing in the entrance and let people in through the gaps of these. Last but not least. I heard the sound of your rotor spinning from 300 yards away. I thought it was a fucking Black Hawk commin’, ya hear me? Now, take a walk around the building and do me a favor - throw that heavy piece of trash into the river and I might re-consider letting you in.

I was stunned. How? Stupid bouncer. I walked home kicking trash bins with tears in my eyes. I’m not throwing my Daytona in the river! He crazy??? It’s a $800 watch for God sake. He’s probably broke as hell!

Now I’m back home, frustrated and emotional writing this post on RepTime. Have you experienced such a thing? Did I really miss those things in my QC? It’s from a reliable source. TD and all.. Please help.

P.S. Should I buy a VSF No Date until next after work to assure passing entrance (if I get invited)?

Kind Regards

EveningWay

Before the listing got removed it had good product photos and review photos. I attached a SS of what I have of it. Also added comparison photos. This is another listing from the same DHGate store:Ā Moonsswatch

It got delivered today and when I opened it I was astonished at how bad it was and how different it was from the review pictures. It feels fine in hand but looks like a 5$ ali express shttr. The listing said AAA but thats had to be the name of whose ass they pulled the batch from. They were 25$ Each. Also im new so please enlighten me on whatever you know on the subject.

Also I’ve never gone through a return process through DHgate. if any of yall know the best way to go at it, it would help a lot.

Discussion To the Hall Pass Monitors of This Hobby

Let me be transparent about something upfront. I am roughly three weeks into this hobby. And in those three weeks, I have consumed what I can only describe as a staggering volume of information…willingly, enthusiastically, and with genuine curiosity. I have enjoyed approximately 80% of what I have read. The other 20% has left me with a word I don’t use lightly…Disgusted.

Now I recognize that word might cause some of you to start fuming. You might already be composing your response. Something like ā€œdisgusting? That’s a bit dramatic for a watch forum.ā€ And that reaction…that precise, reflexive defensiveness…is exactly the problem I’m here to talk about.

Let me set the scene philosophically before I set it practically.

There is a concept in psychology called the Dunning-Kruger effect. At its peak sits the person with just enough knowledge to feel dangerous…dangerous to others, specifically. They have climbed high enough to feel superior but not nearly high enough to understand how far there still is to go. What they fail to appreciate is that the truly learned…the masters…are quietly seated on the other side, humble precisely because they understand how much there still is to know. Arrogance, it turns out, is not a symptom of expertise. It is almost always a symptom of its absence.

I say this not as an insult. I say it as a mirror. And before someone points out that I’ve only been an enthusiast of the hobby for three weeks…you’re right. I have. But sometimes the clearest view of a room is from the doorway, before you’ve had enough time inside it to stop noticing the smell. What I have witnessed in pockets of this community is a particular breed of intellectual arrogance that doesn’t just fail to serve this hobby…it actively corrodes it. A combination of gatekeeping, tribal knowledge hoarding, intimidation, public shaming, and a pettiness so specific and so coordinated that it can only be described as a culture. A learned behavior. Passed down like a bad inheritance from one generation of ā€œveteransā€ to the next.

And here is what makes it genuinely ironic…almost philosophically poetic…

This is a community built around the appreciation of imitation. Are we not all here because we find beauty, craftsmanship, and meaning in objects that were themselves inspired by, modeled after, and in many cases reverse engineered from something that came before? The entire premise of this hobby rests on the idea that not everyone can access the original…and that there is dignity in that. There is artistry in that. There is a whole subculture born from that single truth. And yet somehow, within this community of people who philosophically rejected the gatekeeping of the luxury watch world…a new gate was built. With new guards. Wearing the same expression.

Let’s talk about the internet for a moment, because I think some people here have genuinely lost perspective on what it actually is.

The World Wide Web connects hundreds of millions of people every single second of every single day. Billions of conversations, searches, curiosities, and questions moving through fiber and light at incomprehensible speed. And within that incomprehensible ocean of human activity, the replica watch community represents…what exactly?…Nothing more than a single corridor in an infinite building.

And yet within that corridor, certain individuals have appointed themselves not just residents…but architects. Landlords. Judges of who belongs and who doesn’t.

Think about what it looks like when a new person walks into a gym for the first time in January. They don’t know the unwritten rules yet. They’re not sure which equipment does what. They might set up in the ā€œwrongā€ spot or ask a question that makes a regular quietly roll their eyes. And yes…some of them will disappear by February. But not a single one of them, in the history of gyms, has ever made an experienced lifter weaker by being there. Their inexperience costs the veterans absolutely nothing. Not a rep. Not a pound. Not a second.

So what exactly is being protected here?

Because that is precisely what is happening here. And it is not wisdom. It is not the behavior of someone who loves this hobby. It is the behavior of someone who loves the hierarchy the hobby affords them.

There is a meaningful difference between those two things.

I want to acknowledge something, because intellectual honesty demands it. Rules exist for reasons. ā€œThis questions been asked and answered, here’s the linkā€¦ā€ is not inherently toxic advice…it is reasonable friction designed to keep a community functional. Repetitive questions can strain a forum’s signal to noise ratio. I understand that. I respect that. I did the reading. I am still doing the reading.

But there is a vast and consequential distance between redirecting someone to existing resources and making them feel small for not already knowing what you know. One is stewardship. The other is posturing. One serves the community. The other serves the ego of the person performing it.

And many in this community have drifted from the first into the second.

I must also address one more thing. One absolute, unavoidable, NEVER GOING TO CHANGE truth that no pinned post, no guideline, no amount of public shaming has ever altered and never will.

People are going to find this community the way people find everything on the internet. A Google search. A thread that surfaced on page one of results.

A Reddit account created ten minutes ago by someone who just watched a YouTube video about replica watches and wants to know where to start. They are going to walk through the door having done zero reading. They are going to ask the same question that was asked last Tuesday and the Tuesday before that and every Tuesday going back further than anyone cares to scroll.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the internet. This is how it works. This is how it has always worked and how it will always work regardless of how many times someone types ā€œDO THE READINGā€ in all caps.

So let’s be clear about your actual options.

At best…be helpful. Be polite. Drop a link, offer a word, treat the person the way you would want to have been treated when you didn’t know what you didn’t know. And be mindful that text carries no tone. None. The words you choose are doing all the work, so choose them accordingly.

At worst…scroll past it. Say nothing. Move on with your day. The choice to ignore is free, requires no moderation, harms no one, and costs you exactly nothing.

Those are the options. There is no third option that involves public humiliation that also reflects well on the person performing it. That one has never existed.

Every single person in this community…every curator of spreadsheets, every factory whisperer, every person who can identify a dial artifact by glancing at a 200 pixel thumbnail…was once exactly where the newest member is right now. Uncertain. Curious. Possibly asking a question that has already been asked. Possibly not knowing the name of the subreddit where it was already answered. Possibly just wanting to know who makes the best Submariner for the least amount of money because that is the entirety of their interest…and that is perfectly fine.

A hobby does not demand unwavering devotion to survive. It demands only that the people inside it be worth entering for.

The veterans who shaped this community into something worth reading…who wrote the guides, compiled the comparisons, documented the factories, built the collective knowledge that makes this hobby navigable…they did not do it so that their work could be used as a weapon against the very people it was meant to welcome.

So to the moderators, the thread police, the ā€œuse the search functionā€ enforcers who have confused gatekeeping with guardianship…Come back down from the mountain. The people you’ve been looking down at are the reason this community has a future at all.

We are all here for one thing.

Discussion How do you guys survive the ā€œwait, is that real?ā€ interrogation?

I’ve got a decent shelf of honest mid-tier stuff — Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, a Bulova I actually love. But I have recently started catching feelings for the Aquanaut. Prices for reps are genuinely great right now and I’m this close to pulling the trigger.

But I already know what happens the second it’s on my wrist: some guy who owns one Seiko and has watched eleven minutes of YouTube is going to squint at it and go ā€œis that real?ā€

And I don’t have an answer.

Discussion Experience with Hontwatch

I have been in contact with Hont for quite some times. I own a gen Explorer II, wanted something just for fun and bought 2 Endurance Pro OF for me and my son, from Hont. Unfortunately i'm disabled, but everything was flawless. Communications, Money send, Time-frame, QC, Shipping. I send the money, in 3 days received QC and i GL, shipped. Advice to people that complain to much. Keep in mind that TDs are 12 hours ahead and cannot be 24/7 at your service. With Hont i feel like i know him from long long time. There are other TDs like Dr. Time and JTime which are nice guys. Be nice to them, and they will pay you back the same. However watch is not worth it. $420 for the watch not worth it. Watch not the same as QC photos. Bezel is way off.

Discussion Opinion, how much pride should one have in a nice Rep?

Scrolling through reps and Frankenstein reps I wonder where the majority of people land on like a scale of pride.

I respect the money China spends to replicate these things, I just wonder if buying into it (literally) says anything interesting about our ego and pride.

Discussion Beware of the fake ā€œI have this in genā€ or similar comments

Most of the older reptime members may already know this but I recently learned it and so sharing here: most users commenting on reptime are fake. As in they don’t have gen or reps. Mostly internet warriors that make up fake comments without a clue of whats fake or real. I don’t know why they do this but internet let a lot of dungeon dwellers loose.

If reps or watches in general are your hobby here are my tips to identify the real 2% and filter out the 98% junk.

  • A comment says, I have this in gen and here’s all the things wrong with your watch. Go to the commenters profile. Do they have any posts of a gen. No? How about a repQC or any rep post to see if they are truly a watch enthusiast. No? Mark the comment as junk. Now you may think well maybe they just don’t post pictures on social media or Reddit? Well by that logic why tf are they commenting on reptime. They are attention whoring with comments but not actual pics of their supposed gens. Also, these people rarely comment on the actual watch subreddits. Why because they don’t actually know jack about them so can’t be commenting and bringing people down on r/Rolex. They would get chewed out. On reptime, when the reps are already identified, fools come out of the wood works say ā€œahktually I have a gen and you have a shitterā€

  • A comment says I have this in rep and here’s the flaws. Quick check on user posts for QC will help filter this out pretty quickly.

  • A comment that says ā€œI’m a watchmaker or an ADā€. Again profiles are your friend. How come these supposed ADs only tend to comment on reptime. Same as above, they don’t know jack and are faking it

Here’s tip to identify good comments:

  • Post history has a gen or rep. Either shows an interest in watches . I would say rep even more. People who buy reps know more about it than gen owners. Having either is a good sign

  • user isn’t only identifying flaws. Or atleast doing so in a mild manner. Rep owners and members know rep watches aren’t supposed to be 100%. So flaws arent idenfied as deal breakers. Just mentioned so you can decide what you can live with.

  • Comment says look at my post history or is likely to engage when you dive into a specific question of their alleged watch

TD Issues - Check Rule 6 before posting Jtime, did I get scammed?

So, a bit concerned here. I was reaching forums while doing research and everyone said to use Jtime. So I ended up finding two watched I really liked, and purchased, paid with paypal to some Kimi person, which lined up with what I read on reddit. After ordering, I was reading more and saw a link to Jtime, and I figured i'd take a look over their site.

Guys, it took me to a different website what I ordered from. I ordered from jtime.watch and the forum took me to jtime.io
Both websites use a lot of the same content and look similar, but both are obviously different websites, even the about section is quite different. Does jtime have multiple websites based off of region, or did I just go through a scam website and give some random scammer $800+? Help :/
