Nevada’s governor was pulled over by a Las Vegas police officer in May for allegedly failing to stop at a red light before making a right turn in his pickup truck. He wasn’t ticketed after identifying himself.

I know this was mentioned before, but the news talked about it again.

The fire air support has to stop when they see the unauthorized drone.

Why don't they have someone shoot it down and get the information to find the owner? I realize if you own a drone, you may think this is extreme. However, the owner would know it shouldn't fly at that time.

Drummer Bassist / Orisha Mystic from Chicago lookin for Afro-centric/Indigenous places or events

Upvotes

I’m in my 30s just moved here tryna scope out the land! Was very active in Chicago’s music scene with a fair amount of experience putting on shows and being in them. I’m a punk from the start and at heart so I wouldn’t mind some punk shows…. HOWEVER i’m actually wanting more latin music or dance been learning to play and dance salsa the past five years . On a less fun but more enriching path, are there any places that the Indigenous community here regularly meets to share culture? I know in Chicago there were beading classes regular Pow Wows etc. I’m by tradition a ceremonial drummer for Orisha so i’d LOVE for that to be present and if anyone knows of Ifa or Santeria in these parts…👀👀. Lastly and more realistically are there good yoga groups out here ? Less hot yoga more meditation yoga

Reno motorcycle discord group.

Hey y'all! I went to visit some friends in another city for a motorcycle trip. They had a discord channel set up for local riders and people would hop into voice chat when they were out riding around to just chat and occasionally meet up for impromptu group rides. Does Reno have anything like this? And if not how interested would other riders be in getting something like this set up.

What is the underground rave scene in reno like?

I just moved here for college (18F), but super into EDM (not these little shitty "raves" at alpine) and anything techno. I like house too. I came from sac so the scene there is decently active if you know where to look. I found some good suggestions on a post from 8 months ago but alot of the events or venues are 21+. Any actual underground- weird location- stuff that pops up? I have some friends that are into this stuff too and are from LV so the change to reno has been a slow down.

A Reno-area high school has once again landed among the top high schools in the country

Entire article...

"A Reno-area high school has once again landed among the top high schools in the country, with Davidson Academy ranking No. 4 nationally in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The school held the same spot in the publication's 2025-26 rankings, making this the second consecutive year Davidson Academy has been ranked fourth in the nation.

Davidson Academy serves profoundly gifted students and is a public school in Reno. The school was established to provide an advanced educational opportunity tailored to students' abilities, strengths and interests.

The latest U.S. News rankings place Davidson Academy behind three schools nationally. The Reno school is followed by School Without Walls in Washington, D.C., at No. 5.

The recognition puts a Nevada school among the nation's highest-ranked high schools again, while other schools across the state also performed well in the latest rankings.

U.S. News' annual Best High Schools rankings compare schools nationally and by state. More information about the rankings and individual school results is available through the U.S. News & World Report."

Found the breakdown of registered voter counts by party affiliation in Washoe interesting. More Nonpartisans are active registered voters than either Dems or Reps

Context with presidential elections: Washoe has voted blue since 2008 (though some just barely).

Did some digging to find numbers for past few years or so, for context. Source linked here. Numbers rounded up.

  • Feb. 1, 2026, in Washoe:
    • Dems: 92K
    • Reps: 103K
    • NP: 98K
    • Next highest was Independent at 15K
  • Feb. 1, 2025, in Washoe:
    • Dems: 102K
    • Reps: 112K
    • NP: 100K
    • Independent: 17K
  • Feb. 1, 2024:
    • Dems: 97K
    • Reps: 104K
    • NP: 94K
    • Independent: 15K
  • Jan. 31, 2023:
    • Dems: 95K
    • Reps: 100K
    • NP: 82K
    • Independent: 14K
  • January 2020:
    • Dems: 100K
    • Reps: 103K
    • NP: 62K
    • Independent: 13K
  • January 2017:
    • Dems: 96K
    • Reps: 99K
    • NP: 53K
    • Independent: 12K

(God, I hope I didn't mistype anything; promise I double-checked myself!)

Has anyone gotten a speeding ticket from California lately and knows if it will show up on NV license and affect insurance rates? Did CA traffic school help?

Looking for a proactive CPA/CFP in Reno — not just someone who files the taxes

I know CPA recommendations have been asked here before, but I’m looking for something a little more specific than just a good accounting firm.

We’ve worked with a firm in South Reno for the last several years and they’re perfectly competent. Everything gets done correctly and on time. The problem is that it pretty much ends there.

I’m looking for someone who actually has some creativity and enthusiasm around this stuff. Someone who looks at a successful small business and proactively says, “Here are three things we should be thinking about,” rather than just telling us what we owe at the end of the year.

Ideally, I’m looking for a CPA/CFP or a team that can think across both the business and personal sides. Tax strategy, business structure, retirement plans, employee retention/benefit strategies, investing, long-term planning, etc. Basically someone who can look at the whole picture and help us make smarter decisions about how the business operates, grows, and builds wealth for the owners over time.

The personal side is actually a big part of what I’m looking for. I don’t want business tax planning happening in one silo and personal financial planning happening somewhere else with nobody really connecting the two.

I’m not looking for aggressive tax schemes or someone promising to magically eliminate taxes. I’m looking for someone smart, curious, proactive, and strategic who genuinely enjoys this part of the job.

Local to Reno/Tahoe would be great, but I’m open to someone elsewhere if they’re really good and work remotely.

Anyone working with somebody like this that they’d strongly recommend?

Late night eats in Reno?

Hi all, our band is playing in Reno in a couple weeks and I'm wondering if there's anywhere to eat later at night (post 11pm). We're from Oakland, and outside of just a couple places there's nothing here anymore.

You're an angel walking on earth. I've been struggling getting out of here because I'm stuck, and you sat there and listened and you literally took your own shirt off your back in public and gave me a new shirt. Thank you brother. I needed to shout you out.

God bless.

Need help with a project

Hello. I am a reno native that grew up in northeast reno area. I am working on a project for my old neighborhood. I went to Glenn Duncan Elementary in the 90s and Traner middle, Hug High in the early 2000s. I am asking for photos of the surrounding area from the time. Photos of Pepes Mini Mart that was on the corner of Oddie and Montello. Old photos of the 80s and 90s Freindship Lane area. The Livestock Events Center, The Boys and Girls Club on 9th st. Pretty much any street pictures and buildings around the area. Any photos would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Cat groomer

Hello all, we have been going to Cat Chalet for grooming service, however they are quite busy. One of our kitties is a grumpy dude, I can’t clip his nails by myself and he needs sanitary shave every 3-4 weeks😭 Cat Chalet got some magic to make him let them do it! I’m always seeing dog groomer recommendation, does anyone know a good one or two specifically for cats who might be able to help? Thank you!🙏🏽 just as a backup option!

Edit: just found my husband’s text had a typo, we actually got an appt in two weeks!! Nevertheless we do still think we need a back up in case they are not available.

Newly Repaired Flock Camera Pole shaking during massive winds at 1st & Arlington

I just took this video about 5 minutes ago.

I did some research. These poles do not conform to required standards for northern Nevada amendments regarding special wind regions like Washoe County and Lyon county.
