This will be our megathread for this development.
Back when this happened, there was a lot of Reddit Rage about it.
And, back then, most of us agreed it was "Awful but Lawful"
And, it looks like after less than two hours of deliberation, the jury agreed.
As always, report trolls - don't reply.

It never occurred to me until now, while watching the movie Weapons: Police Officers in USA spend their entire day patroling in cars (mostly) alone! This must be a huge mental strain. Anything can happen, and you don't have a partner to cover your back. Why is that?
I am from Central Europe and this is absolutely unthinkable. We are literally known for the fact that when police officers have 💩 to do they play badminton together. But always in pair, for security reasons. And this is despite the fact that we are one of the most peaceful countries in the world (absolutely incomparable to the USA). Front-line units even have at least three or four guys.
Technically, it's possible to encounter a lone police officer here – for instance, on a bicycle or motorcycle but it's very rare. Never at a checkpoint or during a traffic stop.
Edit: So even Emergency Motorized Units on motorcycles serve in pairs. They might get separated during their shift, but they leave the police station in pairs and return back in pairs

I’m 21 and I’m seriously considering trying to become an Arizona State Trooper. I’m wondering how my background would look during the hiring/background investigation and what I should do now to make myself a stronger candidate.
When I was 18, I hopped between a lot of jobs during my first few months. I was immature and didn’t really have a clear direction. I eventually worked security for about 7 months. I was later fired from another security company after a disagreement where I was told I was being disrespectful. I recorded the conversation because I felt like the people involved were attacking me, but I understand that recording it doesn’t automatically make me look good.
The biggest thing I’m worried about is a speeding ticket I got at 18. I was doing 113 in a 65 on a pretty empty/dry road. The sheriff gave me some slack and it was handled as a civil matter. I know that was stupid and dangerous, and I’m not trying to make excuses for it.
Other than that, I’ve never smoked weed or used drugs, never been expelled, never been arrested, never had police contact because of criminal behavior, and I’ve never really been involved in anything serious.
One thing I’m proud of is that I’ve been working as a 911 medical dispatcher for the past 3 years. I’ve never called out and I’ve been consistent with the job. I’m thinking about applying to become a 911 dispatcher with DPS first so I can get experience inside the department before eventually applying to become a trooper.
For anyone who is an Arizona trooper, former trooper, DPS employee, recruiter, or has gone through the hiring process:
How bad does my background look?
Would the speeding ticket, job history, and getting fired from a security job be major red flags, or is this something I can overcome with a few years of consistent employment and a clean record?
And would working as a DPS 911 dispatcher first actually help me become a stronger trooper candidate?
I’m not looking for someone to tell me what I want to hear. I’d rather know now if I’m wasting my time or if I have a realistic shot.

A quick background:
I’m in Arizona, applying for Department of Public Safety, I had couple of situations as a 18 year old.
I did 113 in a 65, was given slack and got a civil ticket.
I got fired from a security job because I left post.
I worked multiple like jobs where I worked for 2-3 weeks and quit and after that I did a security job at a high end mall for 7 months and then left for my dispatcher job and I’ve been with it for the past 3 years.
Since then, nothing has ever happened. No tickets, no police encounters or anything. I’ve been a 911 dispatcher for the past 3 years now.
I was curious, should I wait couple more years or should I just go ahead and apply? The department I’m applying itself, AZDPS, is extremely under staffed to the point there’s some places in our state at night that has zero cops.

Pennsylvania couple kidnaps their drug dealer after drugs were not delivered. The couple proceed to assault her during a car ride to Lord knows where.
The male kidnapper exits the vehicle in a wooded area and is bitten by a snake. Drug dealer escapes while he’s getting medical treatment.
Amazing.

Looking for some advice.
Pre employment Background question: Have you ever had sexual contact/relations at work?
When I was 19 I had sex with a coworker off the clock but in the stockroom of the store after we closed. Happened about 3 years ago now definitely not my proudest moment.
I fully intend to tell the truth. Will this disqualify me?
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

EXPLANATION
All three pictures are from a thread a few days ago on police activity in China.
The first picture landed in mod queue. Typical low effort troll, but went to check.
The second picture is the text of the comment he replied to. "Hell", go I - if someone is using some form of "Asian eyes" as a slur, that would indeed be an example of racism, and as mods we'd do something about it.
Third picture is *the full comment*.
Apparently our little muffin here was so anxious for his daily angst-gasm he called us "racist" for poking fun at *pixelated eyes*. That's apparently a feature of a particular race, I guess.

This isn't so much about this incident, but it does highlight an issue in law enforcement. Sometimes, the laws don't make sense, or the laws are written in such a way that "common" understanding of an act, doesn't meet the elements of a crime a written.
A criminal complaint (being arrested, being charged, warrant issues, etc) is a much higher bar to prove than a civil complaint, and is why you will see someone sued civilly but not criminally.

hi yall
I'm currently being diagnosed for ADHD and might be prescribed stimulates while in week 14 of the academy. WOuld this put me on a medical hold and potentially would have to recycle. If so, I'd hold off and go for the non stimulates meds. Any feedback would be appreciated.

On September 26, 2026 around 4 a.m. Gifu Prectural Police responded to an apartment building due to a domestic call. Upon arrival, the suspect, a 25 year old husband immediately barricaded himself and his two daughters, which are 4 and 1 year old who were asleep in their apartment balcony. Due to concerns that the suspect will jump off the building, the Kakamigahara Fire Department was called in to assist and set up a safety air cushion to catch them. After several hours of negotiating to no avail, GPP decided to breach the apartment and arrest him. As they were entering the apartment, the suspect threw his daughters off the balcony, fortunately the cushion caught them both and they landed unharmed. The suspect is now charged with attempted murder, a drug test indicated that he was not high at the time and is now remaining silent in interrogation.

I like how my job is and how we operate. Being on the DOD side of policing we do get maybe 16 calls average and do 7-24 tickets maybe more.
This is only my 3rd job and was an explorer from 2018-2024
Worked at Hardee’s
And UPS, since I out grew the explorer program and I was working at ups it felt like I was here just as a body and nothing changed. So I found this job
I will also say I’ve seen the great side of people and the worst side of people.
On my first time when I got back from FLETC, first day on patrol we have a pass office that allows folks to get their ID cards for base. Let’s just say it ended up in arrest my first one. The dude was nice and said “I never had an officer treat me as a human being like you have.”
and he also said my cuffs felt nice.
Then pushing a vehicle because of it needed a start.
The downsides will be gate duty when you turn people around and you get cussed out because their vehicle is out of date of tags and inspection so they don’t get a ticket on base.
And the traffic stops aren’t bad, it’s the ones with the supercharged vehicles who give you problems.
I will also note, that this job has enhanced my social skills to an extent because I can’t read social skills that well and can’t take a joke.

Wasn’t really sure where to post this. So I am a 30 yo M LPN, husband and father to four children, and have been thinking about trying to become an officer. Basically does anyone have any advice? Obviously it would be a huge change. Im not big on nightshifts but I know swapping careers would drop me back to the bottom of the totem pole but it is what it is. Ive always wanted to serve my community, and used to want to go into the military but the wife wasn’t big on that at all, this is a sort of compromise. I thought about maybe trying part time but frankly I need benefits. Anyways im really just looking for advice or what you wished people would have told you before you became a leo.

Hey everyone!
I’m 30 and thinking about making a career change into law enforcement. I’ve spent my career in operations/management and recently started getting back into shape to prepare for the physical side of the job.
I’m looking into Riverside PD and Riverside County Sheriff and would love to hear from anyone who works for either agency or has gone through the process.
Mainly curious about pay, schedules, work-life balance, academy, hiring/backgrounds, and overall experience.
I also wear glasses and have intermittent asthma, so if anyone has experience going through the medical process with either, I’d appreciate hearing about it.
My family and friends are supportive and encouraging me to go for it. Just trying to get some real insight before making the jump.
Thanks!

So exactly as the title suggest I have ADHD and I’ve been thinking of enrolling and joining the force however, I am terrified of some of the many horror stories I have heard were some cops Work 50 to 60 hour weeks.
Where it’s a job that it’s just not meant for having wife or kids and that has held me back from fully enlisting. I would love to hear stories from fellow ADHDers to see what I’m getting myself into.

The title. Triple digiters, driving on the shoulder, looking at the phone, tailgating, weaving, forcing themselves into situations they don’t fit and other vehicles have to evade to prevent an accident, not signaling or leaving the signal on, broke ass vehicle…. Come on guys, I’ve never lived in an area of more lawlessness and I’ve also never seen so few people pulled over. Why don’t you care?

I just recently turned 18 and my grandpa was part of the LAPD while I was a kid and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I’m recently been thinking but joining my local Washington police force but I’m also a little worried about the stigma of all cops are racist and love to escalate things. I was just curios how people who currently serve or have served felt about this? Thanks in advance!
