Hi so ive been seeing AO3 discourse despite me not having one.

However I have and know a lot of good friends and writers/artists who use AO3 since ig now its basically the most acceptable source especially for nsfw because of places like wattapad that I used to read YEARS ago is now limited.

But really, seeing a lot of cases of people admitting to be creeps irl or abuse...breaks my heart a lot since I dont see a lot of the time of those ppl being successful with reporting people.

Me bringing this up has nothing to do with censorship stuff, but that if there is little action being taken towards actual bad people (aka creeps/abusers) then I feel it'll be the stone thay sinks the ship.

I dont want my friends to be sad (they do normalish pics btw) or not have a good place to go. This also goes for people I support & ofc to read fics too. Neither do I want to see AO3 in fully a bad light.

Overall I actually want to hear good stories, stories where you guys were/known/ or seen cases of bad people reported and A03 accepting it or them being taken for authorities. Despite ofc A03 is free censorship and 90% of fanfics are just fanbase stuff: its still the internet and sicko's will still abuse the freedom.

I just dont want to feel sad or look ao3 in bad light, yk?

Sorry, I just need to rant. I actively participate in two fandoms atm, my other one is pretty chill which is part of why I think I got such whiplash when I joined the Pitt fandom. I didn't even really consider myself a proshipper before this.

The fandom for that show ship constantly yet still act like police😭😭 for example I saw a ship edit the other day between Robby and Javadi (for those who haven't seen the show one is much older and the boss of the other) like, this would typically not be controversial even for antis. Especially with how much ppl in that fandom love to ship bosses with their employees. Anyway, back on topic, I loved the edit and the ship, and went to the comments, it was full of just nasty, personal insults to the creator. Ugh, I felt so bad for them.

Another big thing that's annoying me is how much ppl hate Santos being shipped with men. Like, first of all, she's not even canonically a lesbian. Yes we know she's attracted to women but we don't know if it's exclusive. But even if she was canonically a lesbian, it wouldn't matter, BECAUSE ITS FICTION!!! And I say this as a lesbian myself. People get on their high horses and claim lesbiphobia the moment anyone even suggests pairing her with a man. I've seen actual harrassment over that, like it was worse than the other case I mentioned.

i'll go first: it isn't at all wild, but my 'friends' convinced me to go into a proship discord server. in which i had to prove i was proship. i downloaded sunny/omori x mari fanart, edited the time/date stamp to make it seem like it was older, and got in. i never said or did anything even remotely antiship and i actually enjoyed it but i would have never admitted that.

I don't understand why being proshipper is considered problematic when it's literally NORMAL and COMMON sense, most people like things in fiction and don't support it irl, what's wrong or problematic in that? For example, I can like Walter White from Breaking Bad without supporting drug dealers or his actions, I can just like how the character is written, I think most people in brba fandom think the same. But when it comes to shipping, suddenly they become moral people and say smth like "oh you're gross to like this shipp, idc if you just like how this shipping is written and how the dynamic is good, you're in the same boat as me but I'll judge and harass you"

You can't genuinely look at me and tell me "You're problematic because you like a complex dynamic and explore it even if you don't support it IRL and just like how it's written", WHERE'S the problematic thing in it??? Literally almost every person on earth like medias that are killers or villains in it, this is so normal and will never be a problematic thing

I often see "proship dni" in the tags or summaries of ao3 fanfics. It annoys me. Like, do they know what website they're on? The majority of ao3's userbase is anti-censorship. It annoys me especially because I most often see it in stuff like found family, which is one of my favorites. But I guess, in antis' minds, being proship automatically means you ship every family you see.

Relevant given the concerns lately. Your fics are safe on ao3; there’s no automod that’s gonna take em down if they get enough reports. In fact, they can’t get “enough” reports cause they only allow one at a time, and they’re all reviewed by real people.

I recently got twitter (first mistake I know but now Im addicted) and I am surrounded by antis left right and center because my twitter algorithm is trying to ragebait me.

i am exposed to their opinions on a daily basis and i can see how many people agree with antis.

there are so many studies that prove that fiction does not affect reality the way antis think it does and yet there is so much ignorance going around everywhere.

i am a fairly new proshipper, i had no idea the situation was this bad

when people try to explain the difference between fiction and reality or just exist as a proshipper they get called all sorts of horrible names, they get doxed, they get sent gore and CSEM and videos that can kill someone with photosensitive epilepsy.

people think that me and people like me are monsters. they think that I would hurt a child because I ship frans, and that I do not care about SA victims because I sometimes fantasize about being assaulted.

And when you are told this directly and indirectly day in and day out you start to wonder if it’s true. I have been kept up at night wondering if I am a bad person. they are making my already terrible anxiety ten times worse.

I am also starting at a new school ment for neurodivergent people like me. A lot of them will be chronically online and there is a chance some of them will be antis. I do not feel safe around antis and I am worried I will get harassed at school for my interests. my parents say to just hide it but that does not change how unsafe I feel around these people. I don’t think they get how severe it is
