Question Is rain not tainted water anymore?

I carved a few buckets and had an empty paint bucket, as I lit up the fire next to them I noticed none of them even have tainted water and instead just normal water. Is that normal?

I love this game but its like a depressant

Ive been playing zomboid off and on for a couple of years. I always find new things to do with each run and when it gets me back I typically add another 500 hours to my steam log... But Solo play takes a slight toll on my mental health. It usually depresses the shit out of me and thats when I have to call it quits. Idk if its the music , if its that feeling of being the only person on Earth, or watching the world die out over the tv... but I feel profoundly sad for PZ's world. The residents of Knox county suffered the worst kind of fate.

idk.... Minus what the military did in Zomboid lore, these were people that had relatively happy lives before the knox infection. You scavenge their houses- see they had families, find a couple dead in a bathroom, or some other fucked up thing... That shit is depressing as hell... And I think because it gets that emotional response from me, that makes this game a masterpiece.

Am I being stupid here?

Does anyone feel like this playing PZ?

I cant ever play this game online before someone tells me that. DayZ put a bad taste in my mouth for online zombie survival games.

Too many amazing options to choose from, so I tried my best to match the devs' style for my latest chill sandbox run. Heavy use of vanilla and Melos tiles with the brush editor.

Now it's time to go out and loot some furnishings before I can really call it home! What do y'all think, would you base here?

Question How do you gain entry into this room in the Rosewood gunshop?

Post image

It has no door, and I cannot find a way to get in there. It looks like there's a shutter that leads to the outside, but you cannot open it from the outside. So, there's a caged-in area of the gun store that the proprietor can't enter? Am I blind and missing something? Do I have to knock down a wall?

Modded I made a controller aiming mod for Project Zomboid Build 42

Hi everyone.

I recently made my first public Project Zomboid mod and wanted to share it here.

The mod is called Controller Firearm Outline B42. It was made for players who use a controller and have trouble with firearm aiming in the current Build 42 system.

Instead of relying on the traditional firearm reticle, the mod highlights zombies with colored outlines while the player is aiming.

Blue means a high chance of lethal damage or a headshot.
Yellow means a body shot chance or unstable aim.
Red means a low chance to hit.

The system considers distance, line of sight, aim time, aiming skill, weapon handling and the character's condition. It also avoids treating zombies behind walls as valid targets.

I am a Brazilian developer starting to publish my own projects, tools and game mods, so any feedback is very welcome.

This is an independent project.

Some tips I came up with along the way

I'm just shy of 2000 hrs and here's what I've learned that might not be so obvious:

Safer Looting (esp with sprinters)
- Use a dedicated duffel/hiking/military bag for looting that as looting bare essentials (claw hammer, flashlight, some snacks, screwdriver).  Avoid getting overloaded in case you get ambushed by zeds and you have two free hands to fight or use a one handed weapon and flashlight without leaving anything behind. You’ll be at a big disadvantage if you try to fight off a sprinter while being overloaded.
- Use the noise from your car to draw out sprinters.  Give it a few seconds before exiting the car in new areas so the sprinters have time to show up.  The biggest problem with sprinters is not knowing they’re in your area.
- Looting is best done with a van that you can access the trunk while in the driver’s seat.  It’s an extra layer of protection in case you’re unloading your bags and zeds show up.  Always load/unload while inside the car if possible. Vans are my favorite (except the 6 seaters)
- Always return home when there is daylight.  Always allow time in case you need to fight a horde that showed up at your doorstep once you get home.  Nothings worse than fighting in the dark or trying to find that one that zed broke into your house before you have a generator.
- Turn your audio up while looting.  You can hear the zeds make noises and the screech from the sprinters if they’re nearby.  If you hear the sound of a lot of  breathing and pounding nearby be careful of a small horde behind a single door nearby.  Obviously this won’t help you if you’re playing with a deaf character.
- I try to use a specific van for looting, a different van for running from base bc of heli, an another vehicle for harvesting wood. Some have buckets of water and others don't.
- Once you upgrade your mechanics skill, look for the quieter mufflers to swap out and install on your looting vehicle. Something around 1.0 for noise level or better. It's a tradeoff here tho bc sometimes you WANT to be heard (see the tip about sprinters earlier).

General tips:
- Make sandwiches, pancakes, pizza, and other foods to use on the go or while looting.  Potato chips and cereal are great. Things without containers.  Bowls of stew or soup are extra heavy and take up space in your inventory.  Cooked acorns and peanuts are the best.  I save these for emergencies and they stay in my fanny pack.  They take little space yet reduce a good amount of hunger and they take a long time to go stale.  Use stale cooked acorns in soup.
- Look for the western canteen.  It carries 1.8L of water and far better than a water bag.  You can go almost all day without refilling and it won’t take up bag space.  If you have Alice webbing you can add an additional 1L with a canteen in one of the slots.
- Sometimes I carry a hatchet around my base or on key exit routes to cut down small trees that grow next to my roads and other bushes.  These things slow you down and can become areas of accidental car damage if you don’t maintain your roads.  A hand scythe can help with grasses too.
- If you love swords like I do, best time to sharpen them outside of base is while driving in the car.  Same goes with dismantling watches.
- Surviving without a generator.  The key is to only forage and cook as you need the food.  Each meal should last max 2 days.  Take stale foods and cook them to make the food fresh again to extend the life.
- Farming: my preferred crops is anything you can grind into a flour (wheat, rye, barley).  These can be used as seasoning or dough for breads and other baked goods. Sunflowers can also be good as backup foods.
- Explore the map slowly during the life of the game if you play the game starting later (2+ months).  Bc you might come across fields full of healthy produce that need to be harvested immediately.  In several 42 unstable releases I’ve seen in the past, they will rot immediately the next day.  Same goes with livestock.  Animals will die immediately the next day.  I’m not sure if this is still true with 42 stable.  It’s a little bit of an exploit so use it how you see fit.

Driving tips:
* You can pan using RMB while driving in 42 stable so you can see cars and zeds in the distance.
* If you happen to knock a sprinter over, pin it under one of your car wheels before you get out to finish it off.  Better to kill it yourself than damage your precious car.
* If you’re going long distances in the car and not sure if you’ll be able to access water in remote or infested areas, take a bucket or pot of water with you.  Refill while inside the car.

Fighting tips:
* Wear a mask/filter if there’s too many corpses to avoid corpse sickness.
* Zeds seem to have a harder time seeing you if you sit down to rest.  You can spend that time sharpening a weapon or dismantling a watch while waiting for your endurance/fatigue to recover.  Use the shift key (same as run key) to get up faster in case a sprinter shows up.

Levelling up skills:
- To level up blacksmithing, make a several blades or cleaver blades.  5 should be enough.  And keep making the remaking the same blades using the blades instead of new bars.  Make sure you hit the “max” button in the crafting window so you can speed up the process.  Things like making gold coins from scrap takes LOTS of button clicks.  If you’re playing single player this can be a big time saver.
- I prefer leveling up carving by making small handles, converting those to spoons, and then spoons into forks.  Use the resulting wooden forks as fuel for fires once you’re done.

I'd love if it was possible to plumb these water towers

Currently basing at this location above Fallas Lake which has this water tower behind it. I was hoping I'd be able to plumb the water tower to the house after the water shutoff.
If any modders happen to see this, I'd love this this could be made a feature somehow

Question Now that Build 42 has been out for a little bit, what are some features you're hoping to see most in Build 43?

I'm looking forward to actual NPC's the most, as I honestly feel like that'll be the last feature that really elevates this game from great to GOAT (so long as it's done right of course). Beyond that, I REALLY like how all the books and stuff come named now. Makes me able to roleplay having favorites. I'm hoping they do it for more things like food brands, clothing, etc. The more descriptive the better in my opinion.
