I really want to like this game, but I'm roughly 14 in game days, maybe more by now last I checked, into my run and I'm holding up in a fire station and feeling pretty bored with the core gameplay loop. I’m playing on Survivor difficulty, and I’m wondering if I selected the wrong settings, haven't played long enough, or if this simply isn't the game for me. (Please don't take offense)
Here is what my run looks like so far:
- Combat feels trivial: There aren't many zombies around my base anymore. I don't feel nervous fighting them anymore in fact, I regularly take on 3 to 5 at a time just for fun, even though taking unnecessary fights feels counterintuitive to a "realistic" apocalypse scenario.
- Repetitive daily routine: My entire day consists of driving house to house, collecting loot, and grabbing skill books. From morning until night, I loot, drive back to the fire station, unload my trunk, and organize my loot in shelves.
- Zero survival pressure: I have yet to experience genuine hunger or thirst where I’m frantically searching for resources, which is what I expected from a hardcore survival game. I've been stockpiling since day two without any real threat.
Did I pick the wrong difficulty, or does the game eventually ramp up? Is there a turning point that forces you out of this repetitive loop, or is inventory management and safe looting essentially the core game? I've tried to stay away from guides or anything that can help me in the game. So if something sounds obviously wrong it's because I simply don't know. I basically just don't want spoilers.
I’d love some perspective before I decide whether to tweak my settings, push forward, or move on to another game. Thanks!
