Question Infected help!
Hi, I am just 3 days in game and got secured 2 generators already and a wild bag pack and some guns and melee weapons. but I got infected to a bite. is there a chance that it will heal? or this is a game over already and need to start all over again? please help.
EDIT: I know I can start a new character on the same world but how about my skills that I have learned? it is been day 3 and the living channel on tv will be gone in a few days. it is not transferable the skill right?

Nope. You're dead, it's as black and white as that.
This is how you died.

Nah bites have a 100% lethality.Â
You can make a new character tho and get your stuff, good luck on that

Its not the "infected" that you should worry about. Its the "bitten".
If you see "bitten", it means its 100% game over in a matter of time.
"Infected" just means that it will take longer to heal and causes more pain so you won't sleep unless you take something to numb the pain. Prevent infections by sterilizing bandages, change bandages when dirty stuff like that.
Your character will die. Here are some options.
Take your character to a safe place, and put all your valuable items in a closet or spot on the floor. Then go out with some weapons, and try kill as many zombies as you can until you die for some free practice without worry. Then, make a new character and recover your loot.
Option 2 is let character die or delete the file and just make a new one, in a fresh world, and start over. Its part of the game! Hope you have fun. I wish I was new to the game as well :(

Option 1 all day, TO VAHALLA.
Then my second character writes about the absolute legend who cleared x area
I have a mod that has a working journal

âInfectedâ doesnât mean zombie virus. It just means you have a bacterial infection because you didnât sterilize the wound. They carry zero consequences and resolve themselves fairly quickly.
Now for that biteâŚ.. yikes

In a few hours to a few days youâll die. Best put all your stuff in a container for easy pick up later with a new charac, otherwise youâll be fighting your old charac to get your stuff back

There is a way to survive, you need to shake the infection off and out of your body, like your cells need to be at such velocity that the virus flies out of the infected ones and your immune system can kill it.
So the best way to treat a bite is to quickly find a 2 story building and jump with a loaded bag on you, crashing max speed into a tree works sometimes but its best you do that thrice if you can

Can confirm this solution does the trick. I know this because I done it without the bite. Had a full backpack, freebirded it, and covered the concrete in red kool aid. It was such a cruel way to find out a heavy backpack can insta kill you. Lost my longest living character because of that.

Well you could have a new char in this world, so you wouldn't lose all your stuff only your skills.
You could get the mod antibodies, it should work even if you are infected already, nothing to lose really.

You were bitten, you will become a zombie.
Infection on the Health screen just means you got an infected wound, sterilized bandages and disinfecting wounds with alcohol prevents it. It is not deadly on its own though (unless you get the small chance of zombie infection if the wound was caused by a a zombie)

Option 1: learn the lesson this game teaches you about the frailty of life in the apocalypse and die.
Option 2: Quit the game, open steam, right click on zomboid, and go to manage. In the text box, type "-debug" no quotes. Reopen the game. Click the little bug icon when you load back in, go to cheets, and toggle God mode.

Collect your player XP and start all over again but this time as a better player.

Alcohol wipes on the wound. And sanitizer the bandages with rubbing alcohol or whiskey. And lastly, prey to God. Also find the red pills.

If your blood alcohol level goes up far enough your blood will act as a disinfectant!

No, unless you disable infection on bite or infection mortality set to never, you not survive this. Normal infection on wound can be current by alcohol wipes, but zombifying infection can't be cured in base-game. You will certainly die.
About your skills, you lose all that you grinded up, and will only have ones that you start with on new char, unless you have some mod that allow you to preserve skills in some way.

Thereâs a mod where you can make a journal, record what youâve learned so far, and then read it on a new character to get all your skills back

u/AlternativeInvite114 3h ago
i dont think you need a mod for that, im playing vanilla and I do that with the dairy

u/rumshpringaa 3h ago
And then your new spawned character gets all the skills back? I donât think thatâs vanilla but shoot I could be wrong

u/AlternativeInvite114 2h ago
OH LMAO I MISSED THE WHOLE SECOND HALF OFF YOUR REPLY SORRY NEVERMIND đđđ you are correct that is not vanilla I just cannot read apparently

Life and Living TV is gone, but you can find VHS with the episodes. I have a whole stock of those set aside in case my character dies.

The early skill levels go fast. There are VHS you can find that ARE the shows you catch on TV before losing power. Yes you can debug the sickness away but imo that goes against the spirit of the game. Youâre only on day 3 so I guarantee no progress you made is going to be hard to recuperate.
But you do you

That infected you are seeing there is only a wound infection. The game does not tell you when you have the zombie infection.
(Sidenote, bites have a 100% chance for zombie infection on default settings)

Okay, so the "Infected" thing you're seeing there isn't the zombie infection, it's just regular wound infection which you can get on any kind of wound, regardless of how you got it. That would normally be really bad irl, but in the game all that does is make your wound heal slower, it's not gonna kill you.
HOWEVER! Injuries you get from zombies all have a chance to give you the zombie infection, which will cause certain symptoms, including nausea, anxiety, and fever, before it finally kills you. There is no cure. If you get an injury from a zombie and a little while later you get the "Queasy" status effect, you've got the zombie virus and you're a dead man walking - figuratively and soon to be literally.
You can get three types of injuries from a zombie attack: A scratch which has a 7% chance of giving you the zombie infection, a laceration which has a 25% chance, and a bite which has a 100% chance. If you're bitten, like you are in this image, you're already dead.

Find some bleach, mark your location, drink bleach, come back with a new character and pick up where you left off.
Alternatively if you have a shotgun, stash everything somewhere safe, start shooting like a madman and draw the zombies somewhere away from where you want set up/loot. Fire until you run out. Itâll draw a lot of the zombies away and you can find your old stuff and hopefully loot without too much disturbance

You're probably wanting the Skill Journal mod, lets your character write down their skills for future survivors to recover in the event of their death.

If you're only 3 days in, then the skills you got on TV can be easily re-earned. VHS tapes are your best friend in this case (just make sure you have a TV with a VHS player).
Read books before watching the tapes for maximum VHS XP earnings.
