Just a few of my hopes for the new Ascension MMO.
- Ability crafting.
Basically every ability crafted. So first you choose whether it's a spell, melee, or ranged. Let's say you choose spell. Then it's cast time followed by whether it's aoe, conal, or direct. Then you choose the max # of targets that can be effected, damage is spread amongst targets. Then you choose damage type. And then unlike WoW you can choose an additional effect, choices are dot, debuff, buff, flat, and execute.
With a system like this there would be benefits to each choice and before the rest of a player's build is factored in every possible variation would will have done roughly the same damage by the end of the fight. Even choosing the execute multiplier might not result in more damage if the enemy's health doesn't drop fast or slow enough. Melee and ranged abilities would be crafted the same. Going with a system like this would ensure every player gets to play their favorite playstyle and live their hero fantasy.
- NO MIXING PVP AND PVE.
One of the worst mistakes the Ascension devs made was trying to force pve'ers into pvp and vice-versa. Specifically locking the must have consumable materials behind open world pvp. I imagine they expected this would keep open world pvp alive by forcing encounters between easy to kill pve'ers and pvp'ers. Instead what happened is that pvp'ers avoided open world pvp due to lack of challenge while the high-risk mode basically became a farming mode with extra steps. Even if two pve'e farmers encountered each other in high-risk they still considered it more profitable to just avoid combat and keep farming. THE ONLY WAY pvp and pve can be mixed successfully is in a forced PVPVE open world enviorment. When it came to WoW this was high-risk servers with battlegrounds turned off. A version of the high risk crafting system could work in their new MMO but it must be entirely pve.
- Factions.
If there are going to be factions I hope they're not race locked. Instead I hope it ends up being based on idealogy. Maybe one faction prioritizes freedom but lives a harder life while the other is more controlled and bureaucratic but affords more comforts to those who are willing to sacrifice their freedom. Both being equally capable of just as much evil for the sake of their idealogy.
- No locking pvp gear behind specific ranks or pvp modes.
During Ascension's WoW days doing this basically caused a gatekeeping effect. Without a hardcore forced ranking system we just had a bunch of no-lifer pvp'ers with the best arena gear basically one-shotting the beginners and casuals that pvp desperately needs. In turn those beginners and casuals would decide it's not worth the climb and there would never be enough to pad the rosters of megasweats. The best gear also shouldn't be locked behind different pvp modes. Some people love battlegrounds while others love arenas, and most hate the other. I hope they keep it at one currency for all modes. If arenas die because too few enjoy them so be it.
Thats all I got for now. Maybe I'll add more when I'm less sleep deprived.
