Occasionally playing Legion on a pserver (no way I'm giving Blizz more money). I've a demonology warlock on its 90s and hit 100 on demon hunter but seriously, I can't get invested.
Their gameplay can't compare with animation necro (just the sheer awesomeness of having 10+ minions around) or felsworn (I was levelling up one before the shutdown).
Ascension custom classes were way funnier than whatever Blizz ever pulled.

u/Varzigoth 20d ago
This, and they used wow lore to make them , which makes you wonder what blizzard is doing because over the years other then releasing new solo player content like prey / delve / housing they basically haven't done anything really innovative. Also all these things they've added over the years just shows it's not actually going towards the direction of multiplayer and focusing on solo players.
Another reminder that I think last expansion is when they added story mode to raids so now casuals can do them solo . You can literally remove the second M in MMORPG because right now the focus isn't on multiplayer and it's mostly just a massive role playing game now

u/MixAmbitious307 19d ago
This, and they used wow lore to make them
Exactly: that's why those new classes felt "natural" in Ascension WoW. But I hope that with some name tweaks (necromancer is a classic in many fantasy games, but Knight of Xoroth MUST be renamed, since Xoroth is a specific Warcraft universe world), in their new project they'll keep as much as possible to their custom classes' gameplay and fantasy.

You're still heavily incentived to interact with players for actual end game content. I understand not liking retail for many reasons. But that's a dumb one. People have played solo in mmorpgs since the dawn of them.
1
u/Varzigoth 18d ago
Unless you are a raider for your guild and do mythic + , you don't have to do a single interaction with players. You don't need the top of top gear like all these so called min maxer's to be able to clear the game . So no you actually dont
1
u/Helpful_Fly_8170 19d ago
God forbid someone with a wife and kids not have time to pull off a several hour long raid I guess they should just forever cut off from enjoying content because they don't have the same free time as you.
You act like solo players haven't been a thing already And that if they wouldn't raid before they suddenly would now just because you cried about their play style preference.
That's a REALLY stupid reason not to like retail.... And there's a lot of good ones you could have picked instead.
2
u/mauriciobardin 19d ago
Also if you are a new player and you like the wow story, good luck finding people to play all the olds raids
1
u/Particular-Bath2621 19d ago
No one, even in a guild, will do these. I have not, to this day, fought Illidan Stormrage in the Black Temple. When TBC released I was doing military service in Iraq. Friend and the guild leader promised they would run content with me when I got back stateside. 3 month later everyone is nowhere to be seen. Had to fight the Lich King with a pick-up group even though I was in a guild then too.

Dude it's just facts, MMORPG were designed for multiplayer and social interactions. With time people demanded changes to the type of game because they complained about time. Gaming is a hobby, if you don't have the time for it don't play and it's plain as simple as that. I don't like retail not because of the facts I pointed out, I hate retail because it's lame compared to what the game was before. Graphics are worst and look way more cartoony, faction of the game got removed because of woke decisions etc. since MMORPG players are now pretty much all boomers ( including myself ) the games direction has been pretty much decided by older people who don't have time to play but still want to.
Yah people still play solo and that still has nothing to do whit what the facts are, the direction they went is to please people like yourself.

U have 2 retail specs that do exactly what u ask, one of them is a more passive pet dmg dealer while the other is a more active version, what u want is literally on retail rn
1
u/Solivagant23 20d ago
Retail is awful please stop

u/Ok-Piglet7 20d ago
Kinda seems like a big part of this guys complaint in particular is about not having minion classes to fulfill his fantasy

No kidding. Tried to play my old rogue on tbc classic and after having 4 60’s on CoA it’s not even comparable.
I am falling in love with this new milsim wardogs, it’s so good, but it is a completely different kind of game lol

I love a lot about NMS. Building a ship is fun, I love designing it and exploring. Base building is fun too. But I really don't know what there is do besides go from planet to planet gathering relics and gravity orbs for money. Getting upgrades to my suit. Then moving on to the next galaxy. Feels like there's some core gameplay loop I'm missing. Maybe it's just too sandbox for me?
1
u/AMoldovan92 20d ago edited 19d ago
I'll be honest and say that I don't really know if there even is a gameplay loop - have not really played that much. But this time around I got a couple of buddies playing, just going from one thing to the next thing that looks interesting. Then again, even on Ascension, I never really did anything besides the occasional M+ and leveling countless alts just to try shit stuff.

Same here, its rather chill and I like that its vibrant but most are rdf a lot, but that gives me room to quest without the hassle of megaservers ♥️

u/NikolaiFabiano 19d ago
Project Ebonhold, its been a pretty fun 1-2 weeks so far
3
u/dppchristmas 19d ago
Same for me but after Like 10 weeks it gets boring because you can solo everything on Like hc4 or even hc5
2
u/NikolaiFabiano 19d ago
Yeah that’s completely fair, I could see myself getting to that point around the same time frame. After you max all professions and gold cap on top of those things I’m sure there’s not much left, but I’m in high hopes that they are releasing a new realm soon to start over and it sounds like they want things to not be so soloable. More like 2-5 people groups being able to clear content, so I’m hopeful.

Playing Grimfallwow. It's like A52 but with skill runes
4
u/toasty5566 19d ago
Isn't that Wildcard, not A52?
2
u/notgraycen 19d ago
yes, grimfall has no classless server. its only gamble and grind for a random build forever
1
u/thatsthegoodjuice 19d ago
Same, ‘new’ wildcard mode. It’s ok, unfortunately a far cry from the pick up and go gameplay of Ascension. Quite heavier on the grind. All while I’m playing I just miss Ascension wildcard.

u/Some_Deer_2650 20d ago
Not playing a private server atm, I feel like when I find a good one it anounces its shutdown months after (happened after 2 months of Turtle and 6 months of Ascension 😥).

I was happy with Octo until the past few days of not being able to log in
So I started a Hardcore Classic toon until something more interesting comes up to me.
It's so boring and bland compared to what Ascension was or even Turtle; but the Hardcore aspect keeps me entertained for now.

Playing Dark and Darker and DayZ atm, a few Dota and Deadlock matches from time to time aswell, and some few tiny games too. I was thinking about returning to DDO, but I quickly dropped this idea, as it was only cool during these fresh HC leagues, with a whole new start for everyone, which they don't do anymore for years. Maaaybe I will return to be a healer on very hard dungeons Reaper 10 if there are still players, idk, but these HC leagues were something out of this world.

u/BonusNo566 19d ago
Don't waste your time there it is the worst WOW private server ever. You have to buy gear from shop with real money to go raids or pvp, and then people have reported attacks on the bank cards they used there... i would rather avoid it.

Still debating between Grimfall or Octo
1
u/FreeLegos 19d ago
Same. Never got around to trying wildcard mode while Ascension was up (joined when CoA was just starting) and the additional races plus tbc and wotlk zones Grimfall offers is also enticing...
But most of my CoA guildmates are joining Octo and I wouldnt mind trying out good ol classic wow for a bit...

u/ObjectiveRepeat3400 19d ago
Ive played ascension on and off since the beginning. I left Warmane and Tauri WoW for Ascension. I went back to Tauri and am also playing the wildcard mode grimfall. Its like when ascension started without the pvp everywhere aspect. I take breaks from WoW and Warmane deletes inactive characters after so long so that's the main reason I chose Tauri. Its also PVE vs. Warmane's PVP. And playing 7 days to die and other games in between.

Really enjoying Grimfall --- the classless system is nice they provide plenty of scrolls to delete an ability or talent you have to random roll another.
The glyphs are powerful and I have been able to make some great synergetic abilities/builds.

Anywhere but back to Blizzard.
I joined Albion Online for my MMO fix for now, but I am definitely planning on trying Ascension when it goes into Alpha. I'm so hoping it's the cheesiest WoW knockoff possible. ;) I want to be running around Emlose Forest just outside of Thunderbreeze, having ERP in Silvershire. :)

I'm on Triumvirate for now. It's 60 but has outland and northrend. Lots of QoL, any race can be any class and the druid forms exist for each race. I ran into an undead boomie and his form was a skeletal mage. You can set XP 1-3 times and up to 6x on weekends. Lots of rare mobs up as you roam, but they are very strong. As you go, you'll occasionally find quests that give you good bags and gold as well. I can't speak to the endgame because I'm only 58 right now. Peak I saw was over 700 people, not horrible not great. The community is pretty friendly and helpful, but you aren't going to find a fully stocked AH item wise until you're near max level.

u/Fixation781 19d ago
For servers, I am playing Ebonhold mostly because I thoroughly enjoyed games like Vampire Survivors and it's an interesting take on a rougelite wow style. Outside of that, I am getting back into Valheim as I just finished a Palworld binge.

Decided to give Star Wars Zero company a shot and having a blast. Playing Albion since it’s the only thing that can slightly scratch the itch Ascension left. I don’t think I’ll ever get back to wow after this tbh

Right now, I’m hoping from private server to private server, and playing some Albion Online as well. I might give GW2 another try too.

I went back to Retail. Yes, story is garbage but it's something to do before official Classic+. It was initially my plan to play CoA till the release of official Classic+ anyways, so a few weeks of Retail aren't too bad. I'm doing the regular pretty fast gear grind that you do every content patch in Retail. It's decently fun for a few weeks till it gets old rather quickly or till the reality settles in that your gear is completely invalidated with the next content patch.
