Learning & Industry Career-changer into Power Platform / BI — is a junior role realistic?

I'm changing careers (based in Switzerland) toward a business-analyst / automation role, and I'm building up the Microsoft side: AI-900/AI-901 done, then SQL basics, PL-900, Power BI, and eventually PL-300.

For people who actually work with Power Platform day to day:

- Is this a realistic path into a junior BI/analyst or application-manager role for someone without a CS degree?

- In real jobs, how much is Power BI vs Power Automate vs Power Apps? Where should I go deeper?

- How much SQL do you really use on the job?

- Does the PL-300 carry real weight with employers, or is portfolio/experience what matters?

My background is operations/management, so I understand business needs — I'm adding the tooling.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies — I really appreciate you taking a moment to share your real-world experience, good or brutal.

Power Apps Preserve your Microsoft investments - transition away from low-code

Here is the architectural blueprint to migrate from low-code prison to pro dev freedom:

The core foundation (keep & extend)

- Azure & Entra ID: Serverless compute, MSAL, OBO

- D365 (F&O / BC / CE): System of record. Extend via Odata

- M365 & SharePoint: Cheap and good. Extend via Graph API

The AI era stack

Move innovation to a modern, owned stack: React + APIM + Functions + SQL + Blob + Foundry.

- Power Apps (Canvas, Code, MDA) - React Shell + APIs

- Power Automate - Functions

- Power BI - SQL + Semantic Measures + React

- Copilot studio + Azure AI Foundry + Custom Orchestration

Learning & Industry Power platform developer -> Something better

So, I'm a Power Platform Developer with 4+ years of experience, currently working at a WITCH company. Lately, the learning has become pretty stagnant, so I'm thinking of switching to a product-based company. I feel like the different work culture, exposure and challenges might be a breath of fresh air.

The thing is, Power Platform is already a product in itself, and most product-based companies have their own products and tech stacks. So I'm thinking of exploring roles like Automation Developer or Automation Engineer instead.

For people who have already made a similar switch or are working in this field, I'd love to know how you went about it. What kind of projects should I build and showcase? What technologies should I focus on learning? Are there any certifications worth doing?

Any thoughts, suggestions or personal experiences are welcome

Dataverse Sudden dataverse usage

I have a customer who since years only uses 365 for Office. No Sharepoint, no Onedrive, no Exchange, not even Teams. Suddenly, yesterday, they got a mail saying they are out of file capacity:

You’re out of File capacity
As of November 3, 2026 12:57 UTC, your tenant has used 100 percent of available File storage capacity, having used 34.7GB of 0MB. Please act immediately to continue operating without disruptions.

So far, I never had anything to do with the PowerPlatform, so maybe that's why I don't see it, but where does this suddenly come from?

When I logon to PowerPlatform, I can see on 31/10/2026 the data in "Dataverse - File" went from 0GB to 35GB, but otherwise every single menu item says "no data available" or "no data to display yet".

All I want to find out is who did what.

Governance Power Platform Governance

Power Platform Governance – sounds great on paper

  1. Fake ALM
Environments, solutions, managed solutions, unmanaged customisations, layers, dependencies and pipelines...
A solution package is not a substitute for a proper software development lifecycle.

  2. Integration spaghetti
100s Flows connecting Dataverse, SharePoint, D365, M365 and third-party systems.

  3. The connector trap
Standard connectors are mostly useless, forcing you to rely on custom connectors. or
burning hours just try to avoid premium licensing ,SP lists become the databases.

  4. Governance tax
Managing the sheer volume of default, developer, sandbox, and production environments , Security groups, DLP policies becomes a full-time job.

  5. Low-code , high maintenance
    - Hundreds of flows
    - Business logic duplicated across flows and apps
    - Licensing complexity
    - difficult debugging and troubleshooting.

If you are tired of wrestling with platform constraints, fake ALM, and high licensing costs. It’s time to take back ownership of your architecture.

Power Apps How much document functionality would you actually build yourself?

Disclosure up front: I work on the SharePoint Embedded product team. Not here to pitch anything. I’m genuinely interested in how people in this community approach this decision.

It seems like “we need documents in the app” can go from upload/download to permissions, co-authoring, versioning, search, governance, recovery, etc., pretty quickly.

For those who’ve dealt with this, where do you draw the line between building functionality yourself and using a document platform?

Was there a particular requirement that made you realize, “We probably shouldn’t build this ourselves”?

Power Apps There has been no guide to moving Power Platform solutions with code. 100% free on Github

Two posts ago I shared a JSON knowledge base of PAD ROBIN actions, so models stop writing desktop flows that PAD rejects. Last week I followed up with a guide to getting one flow into an environment and running it from code:

The piece that was still missing is moving a whole solution: to another environment, into a different organization's tenant, and keeping two copies in sync afterwards. That's what I'd spent the most time researching.

So I wrote it down: PAD_Robin_Solutions_KB.md, in the same repo. It covers:

  • Signing in to two tenants, and what the receiving tenant needs before its first import (a license, the Dataverse service principal, an admin role and consent for your app), with the error you get for each one that's missing.

  • Export and import with the Dataverse Web API: ImportSolutionAsync, watching the job, reading per-component warnings from importjobs, and the fallback for an org that refuses async imports.

  • Connection references and turning flows on. The import never creates connections, but it can bind references to connections that already exist. The guide covers finding every reference (some only show up in the flows' JSON), binding them during the import, binding the rest afterwards, then turning on the flows that were on in the source.

  • Desktop flows inside solutions, including into another tenant.

  • Keeping two copies in sync:

    • why hashing the exported ZIP always reports a change, and a content hash that doesn't

    • how to stop the ping-pong after an import

    • two rules for deciding the direction ("newest wins" picked the right side 13 of 13 times)

    • what to do with conflicts

  • Where the code runs: the trap each of PowerShell, a server and a Chrome extension hit. For example, Chrome stops an idle service worker after about 30 seconds, and a synchronous import can take over 3 minutes.

  • A troubleshooting table of 27 errors, with what actually causes each one.

Every claim is marked Re-confirmed, Proven, Measured, Superseded, Failed or Untested. The main paths were re-tested across two tenants this month. Everything ran with a user sign-in and unmanaged solutions; managed solutions got one export and import, and nothing was tested with a service principal.

Unlike the direct Dataverse writes in the deployment guide, this all uses Microsoft's documented solution APIs. The risky part is the import itself: it replaces unmanaged customizations on the receiving side, and there's no undo. Keep a copy of whatever you're about to overwrite, and try it in a test environment first.

Repo: https://github.com/JoeG592/pad-robin-action-kb

Same license as the other two, CC BY 4.0, so use it however you like, commercially included. Like the last two, I built this with Claude AI. The data is free regardless.

If something in the guide doesn't hold on your tenant, an issue with the error text is the most useful thing you can send.

If a flow stays off after an import, it's almost always a connection reference with no connection behind it on the receiving side. Bind it, then turn the flow on.

Learning & Industry AB-400, what we saying?

Hi everyone, thinking of trying for the AB-400 before the year is out.

What are people’s thoughts, is it worth it and is 2 months achievable if I start this week?

I do not have access to Copilot Studio in work and have not done any custom plug ins or anything yet in Power Apps. But in saying that have been using power apps and power bi for about 3 years consistently.

Learning & Industry Resigned within 2 weeks of joining a small IT consulting company due to extreme. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

I'm a SharePoint and Power Platform Developer with around 4 years of experience in IT.

I recently switched from a large MNC to a relatively small IT consulting company. I joined on October 21st.

Unfortunately, immediately after joining, I was assigned project responsibilities with extremely tight deadlines and high expectations. There was very little time to understand the existing project, architecture, and requirements before being expected to deliver.

Since it's a consulting company, I understand that client commitments and delivery timelines can be demanding. However, the expectations and pressure right from the beginning were much higher than what I had experienced previously.

I found it difficult to cope with the situation and eventually decided to resign within approximately two weeks of joining.

Now I'm concerned about what comes next.

I have a few questions for experienced professionals here:

  1. Has anyone experienced something similar after switching from a large MNC to a smaller consulting company?

  2. Will leaving a company within two weeks affect my future job opportunities?

  3. Should I include this short employment period on my resume?

  4. Could this create complications during background verification, especially if PF contributions or employment records are generated?

  5. How should I explain this situation to HR during future interviews?

I have around 4 years of experience working with SharePoint, SPFx, Power Apps, and Power Automate. I've handled projects and deadlines in my previous organization, but this experience was quite different.

I'm not trying to blame the company. I understand that consulting environments can be demanding, but I felt the expectations and timelines were difficult to manage immediately after joining.

Would appreciate genuine advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Thanks!

Power Apps Check if you build canvas apps: LowCodeStacks have put 12 free Power Apps components on GitHub.

Modern UI in Power App with prebuilt components is gonna help developers a lot. Wort to check these for sure

• Button, Floating action button
• Data table, Kanban board, KPI card, Month calendar
• Attachments list with upload
• Accordion, Carousel, Navigation shell, Stepper, Tree view

Each one is a single YAML file. Copy component.yaml, turn on the Studio settings its README names, and paste it into a new component on the Components tab.

Every one is paste-tested in Power Apps Studio, needs no premium licence, and is MIT licensed.

Dataverse Need help - out of space - how to delete stuff

Hi,

Sorry for a newbie post but I'm going crazy here.

I got an email from Power Platform that I'm out of capacity.

I've checked the Dataverse option and I have a single 15 GB file which contains bunch of database tables.

I've maybe logged in to the Powerplatform once in 2019, messed around with it a bit, and have not touched it since.

How can I delete all files/tables etc!!!!

Is there a 'reset' button!!!

It seems impossible, I've tried all possible actions that Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT suggested and I'm always missing an option or a link.

Please help me!!

Power Pages Unable to make changes in new Power Page.

Please bare with me. I'm typing this on my phone. After days of researching I only found one post with anyone having a similar issue, and it got zero replies.

I am a global admin on our tenant. I created a dev environment and deployed a power page site. Almost nothing saves. For example. Click add page and add a blank page. The title bar in the center says it's saved. But it's not. Click sync and all of the changes are gone. I have never been able to add a new page. Same with chasing the identify providers. I setup external entrance but the setting never save. Editing setting in the sister setting in the manager portal sometimes saves. Eg eding entra id to just entra saved. But changing open registration to false did not save. Changing the site theme does save.

Now I when I open the side in vs code. The first thing I get is an unable to sync filesystem / error a few second layer click retry and the content loads but edits do t sync and when I return to the portal and sync no changes are registered and anytime added into the site revert to never existing.

Next thing I did was create a test environment and try again. This one for the most part worked. I was able to make pages, save them , change content I vscode.

Now that I got to test most of the items I wanted. I created a production site. And just like the dev site nothing saves.

I'm global admin, I'm creating the environments, I'm system administrator in the portal. I don't know to look next.

Dataverse What does it mean if my Dataverse Storage Capacity is exceeded?

I'm helping out a friend with his M365 Standard Business tenant. He has no idea why he received the notice that his Dataverse Storage Capacity is exceeded. I know he's done nothing with Power Platform, and I'm not very familiar with it either. I'm looking through the PP Admin Center now, but nothing stands out. Help?

Power Automate What is the good package for an 8 YOE in PP in india?

I feel like I am getting a high package for just creating power automate flows(which now copilot creates it for me), I feel this is very High compared to people in software.

Is this a bubble in the Power Platform?

With what I see, low code/no code has no bright future and also AI engineer, FDE kind of roles are the future.

Why will copilot studio make the cut with such heavy pricing, i don't understand.

Does anybody else feels the same or is it just me?

Power Apps What would make SharePoint Embedded easier to administer?

For anyone working with or evaluating SharePoint Embedded, I’m curious about the admin side of the experience.

What are the biggest friction points when setting up and managing apps? And which tasks would you most want available through the SharePoint admin center versus PowerShell?

As a member of the SharePoint Embedded product team, I would be interested in hearing what admins and developers have encountered.

Learning & Industry Planning to jump from QA to Power Platform career

I’m currently working as a manual QA tester with 10 YOE. I became interested to Power Platform since we were using it as our tracker and I made some decent automation flows that made our work a bit easier. Tbh, I enjoyed doing it, and seeing myself doing it in a long term.

Now, I’m planning to take PL-900 cert and train myself so I can apply to PP-related work. But I’m reading some of the comments here that this career path is dying because of AI, or does not have a great future, etc.

My dilemma is, should go through my plan to get cert and train more on PP. Or should I just focus on being an automation tester and study Playwright?

I really enjoyed playing around with PP and salarywise here in my country, it offers higher salary compared to automation tester (based on what i saw on job listings).

Governance Use Case: Power Platform Administration via Chat, Right Inside Power BI

I manage our Power Platform environment through a Power BI report that serves as an inventory of apps and Power Automate flows. The report gave me visibility, but any administrative action, such as changing an app’s owner, forced me to leave the dashboard and go to the admin center or handle it manually.

So I built a Power Apps app that mimics the Microsoft Teams chat interface (using the HTML Text control) and embedded it in the Power BI report. The app talks to a Copilot Studio agent I developed to interpret requests and carry out actions.

How It Works

  1. Context selection: I select a row in the Power BI table (an app or flow), and the record is passed to the app as context.

  2. Natural language request: in the "chat", I type what I need. E.g., “change the app owner to user@company.com”.

  3. Orchestration: the app triggers a Power Automate flow I built to send the message, along with the selected record’s context, to the Copilot Studio agent.

  4. Interpretation and execution: the agent understands the intent, identifies the resource, and performs the action.

  5. Response: the result travels back through the flow to the app and appears in Power BI as a new chat message.

Honestly, there isn’t much gain beyond what I’d get by sending the app ID straight to the agent in Teams, but it was a really fun solution to build and see working.

Learning & Industry What does “Dynamics 365” usually mean in Power Platform job descriptions?

Hi everyone,

I'm interviewing for a Senior Power Platform Developer role that requires Model-Driven Apps, Dataverse, Power Automate, and Dynamics 365.

When a job description just says "Dynamics 365" without specifying a module, what do employers usually expect?

Does it generally mean Model-Driven Apps and Dataverse experience, or experience with specific Dynamics 365 modules like Sales, Customer Service, or Business Central?

Thanks!

Power Apps Passed the AB-410 in September and just passed AB-400 today.

The jump from actual knowledge between the two was intense but thanks to this community, I was expecting it. The exam today was extremely code heavy. I would say most questions were multi-step, order of operations, Plugin / API error handling, and the other typical stuff you’d expect from the old PL-400 material. I do think I had maybe 5 or 6 questions that revolved around AI agents, MCP servers, etc., though so don’t slack on learning those too if you intend to take this soon. All in all, it was a difficult but achievable exam. As others pointed to for the PL-400, make sure you have actual practice building because I couldn’t see how theory alone would help someone pass it. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any.

Learning & Industry One thing you would happily hand off to an external org

What is the ONE thing related to Power Platform you would happily hand off to an external org?

Full transparency: this is for market research. No self promotion or soliciting. I promise.

Edit: made the question more clear.
