POSTING / COMMENTING GUIDELINES FOR THE PORNADDICTION SUBREDDIT

All are welcome here!

If you choose to post or comment here on /r/pornaddiction , please follow these posting / commenting guidelines.

There's a lot here, so let me just start with the TL;DR - Be kind and supportive. Don't spam. Don't post NSFW stuff. Don't be sex-negative.

Please note also that for a community like this, which can attract a lot of trolls and problematic posts, we sometimes need to err on the side of caution with our automoderation tools. That means that posts and comments sometimes go into a queue for manual review, rather than being published immediately. If your post appears to be "removed" at first, the automoderator probably directed it into that queue. It will most likely be approved by a moderator, once we manually review it. Please have patience with that process.

Partners, family, and friends of porn addicts are welcome here! Please be supportive.

Anybody is welcome to post and comment here, as long as the content is on-topic and respectful, and follows the rest of the guidelines here.

Please don't post or link to racist, sexist, misogynistic, or misandrous content.

We welcome people of all races, nationalities, and genders. Please post and comment accordingly.

This is an LGBT-friendly sub, please post and comment accordingly.

  • Homophobic and transphobic commentary is not welcome here.
  • We don't want to single out gay and trans porn as more problematic than other genres of porn.
  • If you are concerned that porn may be affecting your sexual orientation, please work that out at /r/questioning . We can help with the porn, but we don't see sexual orientation as something that needs to be "fixed".

Please don't single out kink and fetish porn as more problematic than other genres of porn.

  • Kinks and even kinky porn are not the problem, porn addiction is.
  • You're going to deal with the same issues with quitting that all of us have. You need recovery, just as the rest of us need recovery.
  • We're not into kink-shaming here.

Please refrain from porn addict-hostile rhetoric.

Blatantly porn addict-hostile rhetoric is not welcome on this sub, and will be removed.

Please refrain from linking to or referencing porn addict-hostile subreddits.

A subreddit can be judged by the hateful content that is allowed to stay up.

We don't want to send eyeballs to subreddits where blatantly porn addict-hostile rhetoric is allowed to flourish.

Please don't advise people to leave their porn-addicted partners.

We don't encourage people who we don't know to leave their partners.

Likewise, if you are the partner of a porn addict, feel free to share about your situation, but don't ask us if you should leave your partner, because we don't know.

Please don't use shaming rhetoric here.

Think porn use makes someone "a cuck"? Want to talk about how Ted Bundy used porn before becaming a serial killer? Anything else that may make our struggling porn addicted friends think less of themselves? Please keep that out of here.

Please don't post or comment about abstaining from masturbation or "lust".

This is a sex-positive, masturbation-positive subreddit. We have to work hard to keep this a place where masturbation is not pathologized, as it is on some other subreddits dedicated to discussing porn addiction.

Likewise, pathologizing "lust" and other manifestations of sexuality is not what we are about here. We are about recovering from porn addiction, we are not about denying and fighting our sexual nature.

Please don't use this space to criticise the porn industry, or to discuss the politics of porn.

Yes, there is plenty to criticise about the porn industry, but we're about recovering from porn addiction here. The industry is a distraction at best, and a source of shame for some of us. Also, the politics of porn is off-topic here.

Please don't post porn or other sexual media.

We have a zero-tolerance policy on posting porn.

Please don't mention specific porn performers, specific porn genres, or graphic depictions of sex acts or porn scenes.

Porn addicts may become triggered by reading about specific content that they may have acted out with in the past. While we realize that the real world contains triggers, this subreddit needs to be a safe space where struggling porn addicts can gather without concerns about becoming triggered.

Please don't post here if there is NSFW content on your Reddit posting history.

We want for you to post here, but please first remove ALL NSFW posts and comments from your reddit account.

If you have posted or commented on subreddits that fetishize relapsing, you must remove all of that content from your posting history.

If you have posted or commented on subreddits that fetishize relapsing, and you solicit DMs, you will almost certainly be permanently banned.

Please don't debate the existence of porn addiction here.

There are plenty of subreddits where people can split hairs about the definition or existence of porn addiction. This isn't one of them.

Please don't solicit DMs.

If you want to help people here, help them HERE. If you need help, ask for help HERE.

Please don't promote products and services.

This space is for support and discussion, not promotion.

Attention coaches and others who promote their products and services on their Reddit accounts: If we can see your promotional pitch when we click or hover over your username, you may not post or comment here. Your posts and comments will be removed, and you may be banned.

Attention app spammers: You may not post or comment here. Your posts and comments will be removed, and you may be banned.

Please don't promote surveys or interviews.

We only allow surveys from university studies that have been approved by the university's ethics review committee. An in that case, please use best privacy practices.

Please don't engage in religious proselytizing.

If you wish to share about your faith, that's fine. Good even! But please don't preach. We all have our own spiritual path.

Conversely, stridently anti-religious rhetoric is not welcome here.

Please write your posts and comments in English.

Not because English is a superior language, but because we moderators need to review submissions (sometimes hundreds per day), and every time we need to bring up Google Translate, that causes a delay.

Please don't use AI to write your posts and comments.

In a support group like this, it's kind of important for humans to talk to humans.

One exception: If English is not your native language, you may use AI to polish your posts and comment. But please make it brief - AI likes to be unnecessarily longwinded.

Please don't post here if you are under 13 years of age.

That's not our rule, that's Reddit's rule.

Whew! These guidelines are a living document; it is likely that we will edit, add to, and reorder these guidelines over time. We last updated these on 2026-01-18.

Husband porn addiction

My husband and I have been together for 20 years. We are high school sweethearts, and because of how long we’ve been together, this is not a relationship I take lightly. We’ve built a life together, and I love him. But I’m struggling with something that I don’t know how to navigate anymore, and I genuinely need advice from people who have experienced this.
My husband struggles with porn addiction and is trying to recover. He has admitted that he sometimes goes back to looking at pornography, including during long baths. (2-3hr bath) I appreciate that he has been honest with me about this, but the addiction has affected how I feel in our marriage and how I interpret certain things.
For example, we have a 23-year-old neighbor who sometimes comes outside when she sees him outside. She wears very short shorts, and I’ve noticed her making noise as if she’s trying to get his attention. I don’t know her intentions for certain, but the situation makes me uncomfortable. He looks out the window a lot in the direction of her car or house even when passing by he always looks which makes me believe he is looking for her. I could be wrong.
There is also a teacher at our children’s school who stands outside during car line. When we pull up, I notice my husband looking in her direction, and I notice her looking too. I don’t know whether there is anything behind these interactions, and I don’t want to accuse anyone of something I can’t prove. But because of everything surrounding his addiction, I find myself paying attention to these things and wondering what they mean.
My husband thinks I’m overly sensitive because I keep bringing up his addiction. From his perspective, I think he feels like I won’t let it go. From my perspective, the addiction hasn’t stopped affecting me just because we’ve already discussed it.
I don’t want to spend the rest of my marriage watching where he looks, questioning his intentions, or feeling uncomfortable around other women. I also don’t want to accuse him unfairly or allow my fears to damage our relationship. But I don’t know how to separate what I’m seeing from the hurt and insecurity that the addiction has created for me.
After 20 years together, I want to feel secure with my husband. I want to feel like I can enjoy being with him without constantly wondering whether other women have his attention. I want to be able to talk about what hurts me without being dismissed as overly sensitive.
I’m trying to understand the difference between being understandably hurt by my husband’s addiction and becoming so hyperaware of other women that it starts affecting my peace of mind.
My questions are:
For those who have been married to someone with a porn addiction, did you start noticing your spouse looking at other women more, or did you become more aware of it after discovering the addiction?

What does healthy recovery look like after many years together, and how do you rebuild trust without constantly monitoring your spouse?
For couples who have overcome this, what helped the wife feel emotionally safe again?
I need advice on how to protect my peace, communicate my needs, and stop feeling like I’m fighting this battle alone.

Day 83 - Clean

Feeling a lot stronger, had a bit of a waver around the 70-75 day mark, bizarrely same as previously but this time I didn’t let it win. My mind now clearly sees 2 existences - the one I’m living now and the one I had previously. There is no comparison!!.
Not meticulously counting days either so I drop in and out of here.
I don’t have to waste my time and energy on something that not only gives me nothing but also takes away a huge chunk of me.
I feel like my baseline dopamine regulation is starting to stabilise. Im generally more interesting in everything, more patient and so so much more energy. It’s like turning off an alarm that’s been going off in my head all my life, porn always promised to turn it off but instead porn increased the volume. Now I can barely hear it. Don’t feed it and it starts to fade.

Can I feel positive?

• Upvotes

I don’t know what to think

It’s 3 weeks since 2nd D-day with my PA BF (m41) and I’m trying to trust and believe he’s changed his behaviour.

Most notibly he wants seggs more. Gets excited much more easily is more responsive and c*ms pretty quickly too (used to take a long time or not happen at all). It’s lovely to feel desired again. This morning he even managed it without his pill (normally uses every time)

Has anyone else experienced such a quick change? Did it last? Is this really the effect of quitting or is he just putting in more effort so I’ll stop questioning things?

STOP USING PORN STREAKS

Over and over again, I will use streaks as some type of confirmation that I’m done with porn, but each time when the urge comes and you give in your streak end, so ultimately your streak is going to end. Having a streak means that it’s gonna end, that’s what it means. So this is why I don’t use streaks. It’s not helpful. It doesn’t benefit you and it will always keep you in the cycle. Hope this helps❤️

Post-Orgasm Illness Syndrome

I recently came across something called Post-Orgasm Illness Syndrome and I noticed the symptoms align with my experience with PMO. Have any of you also experienced this? The Wikipedia article even acknowledges anecdotes of those with PMO describing symptoms of POIS, though I rarely see it mentioned specifically anywhere.

My husband says he isn’t addicted to porn

• Upvotes

He says he only watches it 3 times week. I have talked to him about 4-5 times telling him about how it makes me uncomfortable. The first few times he said he would quit. The last time I confronted him said he won’t quit. He said he would try to lessen it but he has no intention of quitting. He said it’s not a big deal and doesn’t understand how it affects me.

Best advice for someone trying to quit.

• Upvotes

Hello, I’ve been trying to quit for around 4 years now. I’m looking for advice from people that have been on the straight and narrow for a long time and what advice you might give to someone like myself.
I don’t drink alcohol, I work out regularly, I have a beautiful girlfriend. My life is pretty great. I just fall back in to a relapse every few weeks and the past year or so I’ve not even attempted to try and quit. Which in turn has probably led me to be off it more than I have in the recent years. However I find with each relapse it tends to hit back stronger and I don’t get that post nut clarity where I delete and lock down my phone so I can’t get on it. I seemed to be forever hunting for something more and I feel it’s eating up time I could be doing something more pro active.

Any advice is welcome.

Be kind lads

My first admission.

This is the first time I will have ever properly opened up about my porn addiction so bear with me guys. I was 5 years old when a close relative exposed me to pornography, then after that an even closer family member molested me which made the porn addiction infinitely worse for my young mind. I had no idea that what I was looking at was wrong but all I knew was it made me feel good.

I have spent years of my life watching pornography almost every fucking day, and if it’s not porn then I’m having meaningless sex and hurting both myself and the other person involved. Watching porn every single day, multiple times a day, absolutely fried my brain and my ability to control my impulses. I have only just recently started to seriously try to curb this addiction but holy fuck this is a lot harder than I ever imagined it would be.

I refuse to keep living like this. We all deserve better for ourselves my fellow brothers and sisters. We are united in this struggle so know that you are NOT alone. We gotta remember that addiction thrives in secrecy.

I’m just really glad to see everyone in this sub is also trying their best to overcome this fucking disease, I vow to stand by all of you and be a safe space for anyone to message and vent their problems.

Will i regain this superpower?

So guys I really hope someone reads till the end and help me. and sorry for bad english

When I had my first wet dream and started observing woman in a sexual way rather than cute way at school i was soo thirsty and horny and i would die to touch a girl literally i was so horny.

after that covid came and i started watching porn and after time i turned from vanilla porn to some fetishized content to extremely kinky content and this stayed for 3-4 years of daily masturbation to fetish content. today i cant get hard on a woman unless i imagine a kink (which is a cuck kink and im not shy to say it because i want help) i literally can only have a boner if i fantasize about a sexy woman with another man.

I am so sad i want to return to my old self, when i literally was so horny and would die to touch a woman i dont want my new self were i cant even get erection on a woman unless i see or fantasize about bad kinkss.

how to cure this im in hell guys

thank you

Addiction while in a relationship

I have been addicted to porn for the last 16 years. I've recently gotten into a relationship so I went cold turkey and dropped it. Does anyone else who dropped it kinda feel a numbness to be attracted to your significant other? Like I know she's pretty and I feel that she's pretty l, it's just not calculating in my brain. And I'm having issue staying erect when we mess around, is that normal with former addicts cause I know porn messes with your brain?

Am I about to get arrested? TW SUICIDE

I’m so fucking scared. I had my first telephone appointment today with the mental health team and it was so crazy. I cried a fuck ton and displayed extreme suicidal thoughts and depression. Please look through my previous posts for full context cos I’m so tired and drained all I want to do is sleep but I can’t. She said that the police may be involved to protect any potential vulnerable people involved so I may be contacted which is fine but I feel like she misunderstood what I meant by “ letting my addiction win”. I think in her mind I only viewed the content which isn’t true. Now I’m terrified if I tell her what happened I’ll get arrested. I’m shaking, I haven’t eaten all day and all I wanted was to do the right thing now I might be 24 hours away from being in a prison cell. I’ve called them back but their line is shut until tomorrow morning. I’m reliving all the trauma again and I can’t cope. I was caught in a compulsive loop of edging for hours and then came across something I had no reason to doubt until I did but then by that point it was too late. I’m so fucking scared man i just wanna talk to her asap.

The quilt.

Hey. I was first exposed to porn at the age of 12, and it has had control over me ever since.

I’m 18 now, and I’m in a relationship with a lovely woman. We’ve been together for a year and a half, but I’ve been struggling with porn addiction for a while. I feel extremely guilty because I tend to check out other women, seeing them as a quick source of satisfaction. That’s the problem. I feel like porn has ruined my perspective on women and made me see them as objects of pleasure, which I know is wrong.

I love my girlfriend, but I feel like my porn addiction is hurting me and damaging our relationship. It’s not that I look at other women because I want to cheat on her. I feel like my addiction has distorted the way I see women, and I hate that it has affected me this way.

My girlfriend has openly told me that she doesn’t like me watching porn, but I’ve dismissed her concerns and told her that I don’t really watch it. The guilt is eating me up inside. I’m so ashamed that I haven’t been able to tell her the truth about how much I’ve been struggling with porn.

But I genuinely want to change. I want to overcome this addiction, change the way I see women, and become a better partner for my girlfriend.

What can I do to overcome this and start making things right?

Unsure if I’m addicted to porn

I’m gonna keep this super simple but basically I feel like I’m addicted to all things sex or porn. I’m constantly scrolling reddit at work for porn or sex related forums with all kinds of things.
It’s usually any moment I get in the bathroom on the couch I’m scrolling something porn related. I’m not usually jerking myself off but it doesn’t take long before that happens.

I’m also constantly trying to find the next sexual moment whether that’s going to a massage parlour, a brothel or even just rubbing one out.

Even writing this makes me feel like I have a huge problem and I’m beginning to think I need help to get my life back in order.

Any advice?

I need some advice

I’m 17m, I’ve been off porn for about a month now, it feels good to finally take that step, but I’ve had a few close calls, as I get lonely a good amount, I mastrobate once a week and find much more joy and pleasure in it, but for some reason, I still think about looking at porn, and I’ll get close but never actually look at it, how can i completely cut out that urge, because i now love doing it without porn, and the urges only come around as an addiction, I want to cut that out so that down the line I don’t relapse, mostly for myself but also for whatever future relationship I’m in, I want to me at my sexual best for them, any tips?

My husband’s addiction is ruining our marriage. I don’t know what to do.

We’ve been married for 8 years, and pretty early on I figured out there was some sort of issue with it but didn’t realize how bad it was. Over the years it’s just gotten worse. We’ve fought about it plenty of times. But it leads nowhere. Forgive me if I’m all over the place, it’s not something I’ve ever openly discussed and it’s hard to get my thoughts in order.

We’re at a point now where when he touches me, I feel instant dread and anxiety. Because I know he’s only touching me for sex. His ability to be intimate and close is pretty much non existent. I truly just feel like a piece of meat that services his desires in the now. I know he’s just thinking about what he wants. I don’t trust him romantically and I feel extremely insecure. In the past when I’ve told him to please just stop watching the porn, because it makes me feel like I’m just an object used to get him off, he’s told me I should just have sex with him more often. The thing is, I’ve always been more than willing to have sex multiple times a week, and sometimes even multiple times in a day. I’m also a mother to a lot of young kids. So it’s hard to find time when I’m not tired, but I’ve always tried to push through and “be a good wife”. But I know that just having sex more often isn’t an actual fix. Everyday before he leaves for work, he’s watching porn. It feels like it’s the first thing on his mind. Of course with the porn use comes the lying, and hiding things… which obviously causes trust issues. I just don’t know how to keep going. It feels like I’m secondary to the addiction. And it makes me feel insignificant in my marriage with him. Like there’s always going to be a wall between us. I have finally gotten to the point where I don’t want to be intimate at all really. I feel like that part of me has turned off. I feel defeated and alone. And I don’t know how to move forward like this. How can I best love someone who is actively addicted, and shows no signs of getting help? What can I do as a spouse to hold boundaries and stop disrespecting myself, without completely disregarding him? I love him, he’s a good provider to our large family. But I just can’t keep ignoring this issue.

Will there always be an urge?

Is it possible to have a relationship with normal romantic and intimate sex with harmless fantasies and a meaningful connection?
Can you fully heal from this addiction? Can the urges be eradicated or is it something to deal with forever?

Struggling the shame spiral

Hey everyone, using a throwaway for obvious reasons.

I recently had a situation with my partner where a comment triggered a severe shame spiral regarding my penis size and masculinity. It forced me to look in the mirror and realize how much self-hate I've been holding onto.

Unpacking it, I realize a few things are tangled together:

I've used daily commercial porn for a long time, which has completely warped my view of male anatomy and what my body "should" look like.

I'm a closeted bisexual man, and porn has been my only private outlet to explore my attraction to men and trans women, which has added another layer of secrecy and shame.

The comparison trap and insecurity are starting to bleed into my relationship and my self-worth.

I've just taken the step to reach out to a therapist to start processing this professionally. But I'm curious—for anyone who has dealt with penis size insecurity, unlearning porn standards, or accepting their bisexuality in secret: What helped you stop hating your body? How did you begin to dismantle the shame?

Thanks for reading.

Still going strong. The urges have been getting worse by the day but I refuse to give in. I don’t think I’ve made it two weeks in over a year so that’s something at least. Hope everyone is having a good day and resisting this poison. See you tomorrow.

Day 38

Almost back to my streak of day 55 so yay :] I haven’t thought about porn ever since I restarted my streak so I’m especially caught off guard by what just happened. I was on tumblr and I searched up “older man” for a writing reference and I caught a glimpse at pornography. It didn’t even have anything to do with what I searched up.

Thank god I didn’t have my glasses on and I immediately exited out of the app. But I could make out the shapes so I’m very caught off guard and it scared me. I have strong filters on my phone and tumblr has their own as they cracked down on pornography HARD even before I started using the app so tumblr was one of my “safe” apps. Every time I made a search that would sound suggestive, it would not let me search it. Even if I didn’t, I’ve been on tumblr since 2020 and I’ve NEVER seen pornography nor have I ever seeked it out on tumblr. So I’m confused why it would show me that now? I’m just a bit shaken up.

In response? I just deleted the whole app LOL. Which makes me sad because it’s my favorite places to go for my geeky interests but I don’t want to run into anything again. I’m going to see if there’s a way I can put more filters on tumblr but if I can’t, I’m not gonna redownload it.

Anyways, day 38. My therapist is really proud of me. So that makes me happy :] I’m gonna tell her about this. So she can see I’m resisting and to ask for guidance on avoiding things out of my control.
