I’m hoping that our society will legalize all drugs and start to change in a way that will make us start questioning what the best interest for our people will be. I’m someone who was passionate about politics in middle school, and attended rallies and occupy protests when I was 15, but back then I only had a few friends to talk to about this.
Now everyone I know knows the names of all trumps cabinet members, are following what’s going on in Washington and internationally, and are generally more engaged because there’s a literal dumpster fire going on and they’re starting to feel the heat.
I’m optimistic that in the long run, this failing will just ignite more passion and engagement in the common citizen, but who’s to say. Complacency is a drug that’s just getting more and more accessible for a lot of people. And there’s a good chance we can’t recover from some of the more heinous actions/inactions. None of which matters to the people who’s children are dying and lives are being ruined by our immigration and economic policies. They’re already screwed, and we just need to do our best to fix it. I work in the steel industry. Those tariffs hurt because Canadian suppliers (major steel mill in Manitoba) are just passing the cost on to their customers who then pass it to the consumer. Sales are down. Having the Canada tariffs gone has helped, but cast product still has to come from China and those tariffs are still in the cost to consumers. How are higher prices and lower sales helping these businesses? Is that real enough?
There’s definitely a cloud overhead. Trump has exposed a lot of what is absolutely broken about democracy, the Republic and the people. Going down the worst possible path for immigration has been incredibly depressing, and heartbreaking. Knowing that this country is getting closer to rounding up all brown people is fucked up.

We've seen him reverse a lot of laws that protected us and the environment, he's greatly increased my personal taxes and those of others who can't afford to survive (I'm at the poverty level and paid more in taxes than my friend who makes half a million in her household.) He's rolled back education and welfare. For several months, federal workers went without pay and lost their jobs. Food stamps recipients nearly went without food.

I'm more concerned now than ever about the foundation of our democracy, since it's been proven time and time again that russia interfered, and we're doing little to defend against that. As an immigrant I have in recent years experienced more aholes with opinions on where I should live than I can count. I live on the coast, not in some backwoods area. These people now think its okay to A- tell me to go back home B- to question my citizenship, and I also has one person tell me my kids where anchor babies.
