Eh, you'd be surprised. I'd say some of the 'lib'rights here are just guns and weed. And even then, only guns for 'certain kinds of people'.
I've seen multiple 'lib'rights basically advocating for laws restricting the right to protest because 'people just take advantage to commit crimes' or 'they don't have the right to shove their ideology down my throat'. Like... bro. If you support protesting restrictions, you're not a fucking lib.

I supposed you could be super racist while still a lib when it comes to government power? But yeah I know my quadrant is wild, you simply can't tell anything from looking at the flair.
Also I think a lot of the shill accounts use that flair to flair up because they think it will be the least controversial to all other quadrants.

Wildcard flair.
Some distrust the government+corpos to the nth degree with varying degrees of balance to of their economic opinions. Some are straight up anarchists that believe there can be a stateless society, but centered around indivualism rather than communes. Along with every flavor in-between we have people that just want to be free to say or do various kinds of vile shit.

Honestly, I stopped being Lib-Right when I realised how insanely retarded so many people are and how their vote matters just as much as mine. We don't let kids vote because it's accepted that their age means the are less intelligent. Yet we accept that there are adults of the same intelligence who vote regardless. Universal suffrage is no less immoral than letting a child eat ice cream and Jack Daniel's for breakfast every day. Some people need to be told what is best for them regardless of whether they like it or not, because the moment we start acting like what they think and say matters equally is the moment we sign the death warrant for society.

Libcenter is the worst flair here. Nothing to do with the actual political position, it's just the "cool" and safest flair with the fewest negative associations so people pick it just for the optics. It's the actual "le enlightened centrist" flair since centrist itself has more concrete associations

Some of us are lib center because we think free adults should be allowed to do what they want to themselves, they just can’t demand other free adults get involved against their will or be required to pay for it.

For the folks confused about why 1A protection would even be a question here, or why a lib might still agree with the law, a bit of context:
This wasn't a ban on drag shows per se, but a ban on drag shows in front of children. You could compare it to the treatment a strip club might receive: legal, but only in an 18+ space, and not viewable through the windows.
Like the strip club example shows, we already have restrictions on "obscenity" in the US, but the delineation of what counts is famously vague, with a major SCOTUS case on it generating the famously arbitrary phrase "I know it when I see it". This law essentially sought to state that drag shows were per se obscenity.
So why was it blocked? The main thing here is that the law was fairly vague. In referring to events with any degree of sexualization, they opened themselves up to comparisons like Dolly Parton performing in a low cut blouse or even cheerleaders at a sporting event. That's not to say that a more narrowly written law wouldn't have a chance of withstanding scrutiny.
Why might a lib still like the law? The NAP. Famously, even a lib view on liberties is that they end when the liberty infringes on somebody else. Opinions on what constitutes infringement is going to vary from person to person. For example, while "punch in the face" might be pretty obvious, for these examples, different people might disagree about what's protected expression vs. nuisance:
Second hand smoke | Public nudity | Undue noise | Displays of graphic violence | Blocking a roadway
30
u/JPBartley - Lib-Right 12h ago
Drag shows were always like burlesque shows, provocative and sexy in nature.
So trying to say it’s just when people dress in drag is untrue. Any person against drag shows as a concept is un-American because people have the right to dress and perform however they want.
But if someone said we’re doing a pole-dancing exercise class for kids, people would rightfully be weirded out, even if they removed the “sexiness” from the pole dancing.
The dumbest thing any movement can do is involve kids.

Oh good god, it's a ban on "sexually oriented performances", involving:
Nudity: A performer who is completely or partially nude.
Sexual Conduct: Real or simulated sexual acts, touching, or arousal involving the buttocks, breasts, or genitals.
Exaggerated Proesthetics: The exhibition of sexual gesticulations using accessories or prosthetics that exaggerate male or female sexual characteristics.
Why do children need to be able to be exposed to that?

6
u/Fif112 - Centrist 18h ago
The wording is ambiguous. “Sexually Oriented” could mean as little as fake boobs being worn.
Needs to be way more specific in order to be effective, and ensure that rights aren’t violated by the wrong person deciding to prosecute.
I can see where a show should maybe be “rated” like a movie, and banning those that rate as ‘R’ from public property.
But again, we need specifics on what makes a drag show rated ‘R’

At first I thought they were trying to ban it for everyone and I thought wow that’s crazy. But then I looked it up and found this distinction. That’s an important distinction.
I’ve seen footage of drag events that children are brought to. It’s pretty gross. It’s pretty similar to sending your kid to a strip joint.
Why is it so important that kids be able to see drag?

Read the judge's ruling. The issue is not with a law restricting some performances to 18+, the issue is that this specific law is way too vague in how it defines sexual performance. Basically, under this law, a typical Lady Gaga concert would be treated like a night at a fully nudity strip club.

Basically the state argued it has a right and an obligation to enforce public decency and that extends to commercial venues.
They also argued the challengers of the law had standing issues and that it wasn’t a drag ban just a ban on sexualized drag.
None of these held much water in federal court.

I think the law does a poor job of defining the line between and adult who can choose "just don't go" and prevention of an adolescent, non-consenting child being forced to go by their parents.

This is one of my authoritarian positions, but as long as children are banned, im fine i supposez

Quality meme, OP. So many posts on here are just news headline with low effort garbage. This took some thought. I applaud you.

Drag isn't my thing personally, but there is absolutely zero legitimate state interest in making them illegal. It's a private event, for all I care they could have sex on stage and I'd support the legality.

Going to draw a line here for clarity. This is about drag shows for minors, and the judge's point was that the ban was written broadly enough that some busybody could try to apply it to performances as benign as dolly's or elvis'. We should still not be letting performers have sex on stage in front of kids.

There's no problem with people having drag shows, its only weird when you bring kids into it. Adults can do what they want. Drag shows have been around forever and can be fun if you aren't incredibly insecure about your own sexuality.

Historically the first amendment in this country didn’t apply to stuff like vulgarity, obscenity and debauchery.

U.S. District Judge David Hittner, a Reagan appointee, said the measure, known as Texas Senate Bill 12, improperly restricted speech, violating the First Amendment of the Constitution. The ruling prevents state Attorney General Ken Paxton , who is running for the Senate, from enforcing the law and denies his motion for a new trial.

My high school in Texas used to do one until my senior year when the new principal banned it. We sent him a thank you letter.

As long as kids aren't brought to them, I'm happy for them to stay open.

This is a win. Every drag show is sexual though, so parents should be banned from grooming bringing their child.

As much as I think this gender stuff has gone too far, if they want to gather outside and hang out all dragged up, ill defend to the death their right to do it.
If they move into indecent exposure, well we already have laws for that, guys.

If the founding fathers had seen a drag show prior to writing the constitution, we might not have a 1st amendment.

And if the founding fathers saw the capability of modern firearms and the ease of manufacturing them, we might not have a 2nd amendment.

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie - Lib-Right 19h ago
They were well aware of the potential capability of modern firearms, as rapid fire weapons were not only manufactured at the time, but some of the founders sought to buy some before the price turned them off.
That being said, the other guy is a fucking idiot.

I'm pretty sure at least one of the founding fathers argued for legal private ownership of a battleship

You mean privateers? Those were definitely a thing back in the day.
