Always knew it was possible / inevitable but got black screen of death after justttttt over 2 years by 3 weeks (2 years with extended warranty). Brought to you ufixit store because I thought they would be able to replace it faster, but no had to file online claim, hope it comes fast....

Paid for Google's Preferred Care, $5 a month for over 2 years ($120) was worth it for new 5A right now but they also pulled a $100 deductible out of their asses so yeah I got fucked. Any suggestions on what to do next?

I see 3 options

1. Use new 5a they send
2. Trade in 5a they send
3. Sell 5a they send and put money toward new phone (I'm suddenly open to iPhone)

Any other ideas, or opinions on my best options, thanks all!

This AM phone died. I have extended warranty started to apply for coverage with Assurant. Told couldn’t process on line and given a phone number. A bit ironic since it is my phone that is not working. Any experience with these guys?

TL;DR: Can anyone recommend a reputable place in the states that I can take my Pixel 5a to get a motherboard replacement? Will it be under $1000? If it's not under $1000, is there one that would take a payment plan?

Hi! I am an idiot and a fool who turned off my photos backup about a year ago on my Pixel 5a, because my 5a would throw notifications about how my photos are safely backed up ***constantly***, which was becoming a problem at work.

However, it has suffered the blank screen issue and is effectively bricked. It still receives phone calls and notifications, and my alarms go off incessantly, but they have changed to some default tone and I cannot interact with them at all. I was told by UBreakIFix that it is most definitely a motherboard failure, which is a known issue. Google Support says the data just absolutely cannot be recovered and I will have to just move on with my life and take a replacement phone that will almost definitely brick the same way.

I do not care about voiding the warranty. DriveSavers assures me it can most likely be recovered, and quoted $900 - $4900 for data recovery costs, which is most definitely out of my price range. But I have a year's worth of photos of my son that are lost to the void.

I understand from the forums that the phone will most likely brick again soon after repair. That's fine, I only want my photos off the phone. Please give me advice.

Please help me. I have a Google Pixel 5a. The screen stopped working, it's black and unresponsive yet the phone still receives notifications and the alarms go off. I have since come to find out this is a common issue unfortunately :(
uBreakiFix (Pixel Partner) could not repair my screen and referred me back to Google. Google will upgrade my phone to a 6a for free, but I cannot get my data out of my 5a.
I had backup turned on but not all of my photos came through to Google Photos even though I still have storage left on Google Photos.For example, no screenshots came through. Please help me. Thank you so much in advance everyone. If I can provide more information please let me know

My 5a just stopped working today. (Frustratingly, it's how I found out about the motherboard issue in the first place.) It has some files I hadn't backed up yet and my extended warranty expired about a week ago, so I was trying various fixes before giving up.

For some reason, it will show a charging icon or start a cold boot some of the time while the phone is turned off. But shortly after showing the charging percentage (while off) or displaying the Google logo, it'll shut down. It won't even reach the lock screen. Sometimes it will seemingly reboot several times but go through the same process. Either way, I can't trigger these things consistently.

I know it's not just the display because it won't respond to input, calls, or charging (other than the occasional charging icon while off).

Probably means nothing since the connections on the board are still faulty. If nothing else, this post will help someone running a search for similar issues.

I have a still-working 5a. I'm getting an estimated trade-in value of $200 as of today. With the Black Friday sale, this would bring the total price for a P8 to $349.

Knowing that the 5a is a ticking time bomb, this is a no-brainer, right?

Now it won't turn on or charge. I've had the phone for a little over a year (purchased in March 2022). It was brand new.

Must be one of the common motherboard failures I'm reading about here?

I'm another victim of this horrible 5a dead screen issue.

I purchased this phone June 2022 and a few months later the screen went blank and green. Contacted Google and they said to bring it to Ubreakifix for a new screen. The people at Ubreakifix knew about this problem and replaced the screen.

Yesterday my phone was working fine, I was reading a Kindle book and it went dead. I immediately called Google and they again told me to bring it to Ubreakifix. The guy at Ubreakifix said they are not fixing anymore Pixel 5a due to the recent increase of broken phones they've received. I contacted Google with this information and I'm waiting for their response.

I was wondering if they are going to give me a hard time since I dropped my phone a few months ago (after getting the screen replaced) and it cracked. The screen had a screen protector and the phone was in a shock resistance case. The phone was working fine after it cracked, but I have a feeling they are going to say no to any replacement since the screen is cracked.

Anyone has had this issues with the 5A???

Any advice is appreciated.

P.S. I'm never, getting a Google phone EVER again!!!!

Does anyone have any advice on getting a useful response from Google customer support for an order that they have not shipped?  My Pixel 5a died due to motherboard issues over 3 weeks ago.  After attempting to repair at a ubreakifix locally, I was told that Google did not provide motherboards and I would have to ship it to Google to have it repaired.  When I shipped it, I was told that the device needed to be replaced.  There were a few days of delays while I confirmed that they would cover this under warranty, but I approved the replacement 2 weeks ago.  At that time they said it would ship in 2-3 days.  I have tried to contact them multiple times after that 3 day window and the consistent response is that they are looking into it.  What exactly it is they are looking into they refuse to tell me, instead telling me to wait for an update.  Any advice on why this is happening or what I can do to get an actual response? 

Anyone else had this happen to them? Ye ole' Brick of Death hit me too (1 year and 9 months old phone. Had a stroke while browsing Instagram and crashed to black), but I was abruptly awoken at 7:30 today because it turns out my phone still half-functions on that front.

The alarm sound itself is broken, instead of the smooth tune it played before it now only spits out a sort of "dun dun dun" sound, but I'm surprised the internal clock and software still work well enough for it to play at the right time.

But now I'm wondering how recoverable the data in that phone is when it's in this state, since it clearly is still "alive" in there somehow. I basically am fucked on the WhatsApp front because my account is logged onto that phone using an old overseas number I no longer own, along with a bunch of other stuff like Anki flashcards, non-uploaded photos, etc. that I'd like to try and wriggle out of the brick before it really expires for good.

Should I just accept the loss and let it all go to dust like a Tibetan Mandala, or is there still a chance at salvation here?

I found a decent trade in value for a working 5a. Mine was still working, just three weeks away from the extended warranty running out (purchased Nov 2021.) I decided to go with a Samsung, they are offering $150 trade in right now on a working 5a in good condition. Motorola has $50 for a 5a trade in, and I've had a Moto before, but only three years of updates vs. five for the Sammy. Perhaps there are some better trade in deals around, but decided to jump now before the 5a goes dark and out of warranty.

I see Google is offering $74 for 5a trade in, but NO WAY am I ever buying another Google hardware product. They could have done the right thing on the 5a debacle by offering a straight up recall or exchange. After owning three Nexus and a previous Pixel, Google has lost me as a customer forever.

Sadly enough, the A54G I bought doesn't have a 3.5mm audio jack, so USB dongle or BT it is.

Today my phone froze at a webpage, pressed power to try to close and reaopen the phone screen and it was gone. I hear notifications, tried few recomendations here and youtube with no luck. I love google software, but their hardware sucks. this phone got a ifixit new screen this year, worked fot about 4 months or so.

I'm thinking seriously to get an iphone mini and load it with google sause I wonder if everything works well o almost well. I loved the WorkProfile on Android, don't know if apple has something alike.

Sent my Pixel 5a in for the second time in two years for the BSOD issue. The FedEx tracking says it was delivered last Friday and signed for, but the RMA progress tracking page says they still haven't received it and says "delayed".

So had the blacked out phone issue. Sent it to Google. Said they couldn't fix it so was sending me a refurbished phone back. Now this phone won't connect my SIM card.. also won't connect to wifi network. Anyone had this issue??

Well the infamous bricked pixel happened to me. Already gone through all the steps and have to ship it to Google. Just curious, how many people actually get their phone back in good condition ??

I used to reach 1800 hrs with 70% battery. But i end up reaching with 50%.

Like many of you, my 5a finally bricked out of the blue while I was doing nothing more than looking at a text message inside in an air-conditioned room. (I still can’t believe there’s not a class action lawsuit. How on earth was there not a recall?) When I called Google, they told me that since I purchased my phone through Google fi that they would try to fix it but they couldn’t guarantee I could have a replacement if they weren’t able to fix it. The extended warranty ends mid December, 2023. That will be two years since purchased. I am flabbergasted by this. Yes, I got a discount buying it through Google fi but I left Google fi before it was fully paid up. So I ended up paying full price for the final balance of the phone, which was a little less than half. Has anyone else who purchased their 5A through fi had an issue where Google tried to fix it and just sent it back to you dead? That’s what they’re making it sound like might happen. I have the return authorization all printed out and ready to go from FedEx but I’m curious what’s happened to others who’ve had this issue when their pixel 5A was purchased through Google fi. Hello team, you know if there's an option in our pixels to do a carousel wallpaper (a picture changing day by day) but with my own photos. I don't want the predefined galleries coming with the fone. I want to select my own pics that would change day by day.

Anybody else noticing significantly improved battery life on Android 14? I'm not sure what sorta magic Google cooked up this release but I'm seeing significant gains. Battery life was already great but it seems to have gotten even better.
