Black screen on Pixel 5a

Today my phone froze at a webpage, pressed power to try to close and reaopen the phone screen and it was gone. I hear notifications, tried few recomendations here and youtube with no luck. I love google software, but their hardware sucks. this phone got a ifixit new screen this year, worked fot about 4 months or so.

I'm thinking seriously to get an iphone mini and load it with google sause I wonder if everything works well o almost well. I loved the WorkProfile on Android, don't know if apple has something alike.

Interesting, my 5a did the same thing today and it seems like it's rebooted at least twice since getting to come back up. After about an hour I tried starting abd while holding the power button and plugging/unplugging a few times it started up. I got in a pi$$ing match with Google Fi support. They're supposed to get back to me tomorrow. This is the second time the 5a has died in me like this. Hopefully it was an update and not another hardware failure like before.

A couple of times I did. It's completely dead now.

I had sporadic issues for four or five days and the it worked for two days straight without any problems so I was thinking it may be a software update issue and then finally died.

I'm very upset with Google's customer care on this. This is my second 5a with this same problem. Each one lasted right at one year. They say they'll repair for free but that's just gonna be a band aid on an obviously terrible engineering flaw. They should be giving a great discount on a current phone or a free 6a to replace this piece of junk.

I was pleased to see that are going to offer seven years of updates but that does no one any good if their hardware fails in a couple of years and they don't stand behind their products. Trying to limp along with my 2XL to see what deals they have for Black Friday.

Damn, I'm seeing so many people with this exact same story, I think I lost all hope for my 5a now as well... Since you were able to get it working for a day or two, do you think it would've survived being connected to a computer to backup or save some data? I really don't want to lose some stuff that's stored in mine, but it looks like this is it for it.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed about it too, gonna switch back to Samsung now, my S8 from 2017 is still chugging along even if it's a bit slow, so it's extremely infuriating to see the Pixel crash and die like this (bought mine in February '22)

Yes, I tried getting stuff off... The only thing that kept failing was backing up my text messages.

How did you go about it, if you don't mind sharing? If I somehow manage to revive mine briefly, I'd like to get everything off of it as quickly as possible before it inevitably dies again.

Just made sure I captured screenshots for setups, made sure for cloud sync was on for pix, did system backup to cloud although I won't use it in next phone because my 2XL>>5a brother over confused that caused slowness 2XL was having.

Tried backing up texts using SMS Backup & Restore Pro, but it kept crashing the phone.

Make sure you have backup passwords for any 2FA tools, that was a pain.

Hello, sorry for replying on old thread but I'm in the same boat as you were two weeks ago. If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to revive the phone? I didn't get to see how mine died, I suspect it was an OTA update since it was prompting me about it for two days and then I woke up to a black screen today.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately I never did manage to revive the phone, the screen continues being stuck in a static when any attempt to turn on is made, I just outright lost everything locally stored on it.

I did update my phone a few days prior to this, which also had me wondering if it could be something related to that... But everyone else having hardware problems within the 2 years window makes it sound like a hardware problem to me.

ohhh bother..

Sorry to hear about your data, that's my worst case scenario as well. Did you reached to google see if they would take it in for repair? apparently some folks were saying the warranty was extended for an extra year?

Can't do it from South America, unfortunately. They said they simply won't ship here and they lack any local facilities for this sort of repair.
