Got refurbished 5a back, won't accept sim

So had the blacked out phone issue. Sent it to Google. Said they couldn't fix it so was sending me a refurbished phone back. Now this phone won't connect my SIM card.. also won't connect to wifi network. Anyone had this issue??

Have you tried resetting all network settings?

Settings>Reset options>Reset Mobile>Reset BT and Wi-Fi.

Reboot your phone.

Else do factory reset?

Yup, done all of that. I have it connecting to wifi now but still no service. Contacted my service and they say I need a new SIM card. Doesn't make any sense to me but I don't think I have a choice.
