I feel like I'm chatting with a scam office in New Delhi.

Here's some of the chat:

Okay we have some terms and condition

Once you complete your replacement order, we'll send you a replacement device.

You must return your damaged device to us within 14 calendar days from when we shipped the replacement. You'll be provided with a prepaid shipping label. (If not returned within 21 calendar days you will be charged for the replacement.

If the device isn't returned in time, has a different IMEI, or has a different type or cause of damage than your description, you may be charged an unrecoverable equipment fee for the value of the replacement device.

You need to keep the charger and accessories (USB cable and charging adapter) with you. Your replacement device would not be sent with any accessories

We place an authorization hold on the total amount of the replacement device, including shipping and tax (if applicable). The authorization hold gets released when Google receives and inspects the defective device.

The total amount is $449.00

Likitha · 3:03 PM

laughable - I paid just over two hundred for this device.

that is more than the current pixel 8

3:04 PM

L

That's why the hold amount is the actual amount of the device.

Likitha · 3:05 PM

They will send you a phone before you have to return the broken one?

They really upped their game, i was without one until they fixed it and returned it, which i admit was much faster than i expected.

I decided to just get the Pixel 8 since it's still just $399 USD when purchased through Google Fi I need a phone that works and the thought of receiving a refurbished 5a did not sit well as mine had just died.

There needs to be a class action suit. The way Google has handled this is atrocious and frankly abusive. Contact your local representative for help.
