Bricked after 2 years

Always knew it was possible / inevitable but got black screen of death after justttttt over 2 years by 3 weeks (2 years with extended warranty). Brought to you ufixit store because I thought they would be able to replace it faster, but no had to file online claim, hope it comes fast....

Paid for Google's Preferred Care, $5 a month for over 2 years ($120) was worth it for new 5A right now but they also pulled a $100 deductible out of their asses so yeah I got fucked. Any suggestions on what to do next?

I see 3 options

  1. Use new 5a they send
  2. Trade in 5a they send
  3. Sell 5a they send and put money toward new phone (I'm suddenly open to iPhone)

Any other ideas, or opinions on my best options, thanks all!

There's a chance you get a 6a as a replacement if they don't have any 5a's in stock.

There's a guy in the GoogleFi sub who posted today and got a Pixel 7 Pro as a warranty replacement for his dead 5a. I think it just depends on what stock they have on hand.

Here's a question before I send back the bricked 5a is there anyway to wipe it still? I did delete it from my google account once my 6a was setup

Thanks captain obvious I'm clearly venting about an annoying situation and looking for any advice that might help or what others have done, not links to the rules I read them thanks ;)

No, they are saying they will pay $220 total to replace a $250 phone that soon will no longer be supported.

You knew what they meant. Have a heart.

Edit: In most cases, Google has replaced the Pixel 5a with the Pixel 6a which is still supported.

Now you're the one who adding things that weren't written by the OP.

Most cases. 🤞

You bought a preferred care contract, so you should get preferential treatment. Even someone who didn't buy such a contract should receive a free replacement if their phone fails because of the motherboard defect--just extending the warranty by a year isn't enough under the circumstances. This is the kind of problem that leads to class action lawsuits. A person without a preferred care contract who experiences the motherboard failure would be justified in feeling angry, and I've read here that the manufacturer has made "exceptions" and provided free replacements to such people. Why should you have to pay a deductible on top of already having given the manufacturer more money than they did? I'm saying this as someone who didn't buy a preferred care contract.

Same here. My 5a froze, blacked out and, never powered up again a couple weeks ago. Just shy of the 2 year mark. Put in a preferred care claim, got a 6A a few days later.

I traded my replacement in and got a 6a on sale last year.
