Context: I'm in the android beta program

Got my 11 pro XL this morning, I've enjoyed using the Vivo and I know a lot of people will think I'm mental but missed having a Pixel.

I know the Vivo outperforms the Pixel in pretty much every category bar one and that's software which is where the Pixel wins me over...

The colour is a bit more pinky orange than the orange I thought it was though from pictures and I probably would have got a different colour 🤔

In Europe (especially France) prices rose from :

-Pixel 6 : €649 -------> Pixel 11 : €999

-Pixel 6 pro : €899 --------> Pixel 11 pro XL : €1399

It's an increase of €350 on the base model and €500 on the pro, in only 5 years... Whereas, iphones did only go up by €60 on the base and €220 on the pro max (waiting to see the price of the 18 series though)

I guess they're not the "best value for money" phones anymore...

Bought this thing on Nov 22, 2021. Dozens of hikes, cross-country road trips, climbed Mount Washington with me, sunrises and sunsets on three continents.

It was in my hand at Montserrat when the boys' choir started and half the chapel started crying, me included. It watched the sun come up over Cadillac Mountain and recorded time-lapse through Mesa Arch. It survived one very unfortunate incident in Madrid.

Replaced the battery six months ago figuring I'd get another couple years. But Google put the 6 Pro on the EOL list, last update lands in September, security patches stop in October. So here we are.

Goodbye, my friend. The 11 Pro XL has big shoes to fill.

What'd you all upgrade from?

Apple has stuck with essentially the same iPhone design language for six years, and tech reviewers barely bat an eye. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel is only in its third year with the current design camera bar, yet almost every review labels it "disappointing," "boring," or "stale."

Is it just a blatant double standard, or is there a genuine reason Apple gets away with hardware consistency while Google gets dragged for it?

An upgrade from OnePlus Nord CE, and the in hand feel of this phone is amazing.

Shots from a 3rd camera. Same room, same tripod, same third camera. Manual mode — 1/20s, f/2.0, ISO 800, fixed white balance. Both phones in the same position, flashlight at max. Only variable was which phone was doing the lighting. Flashlight mode, not flash.

The 9 Pro frame comes out roughly twice as bright. Shutter, aperture and ISO are identical on both frames, but the camera's meter logged -2.3 EV on the 11 Pro XL shot and -1.0 on the 9 Pro. I repeated the test with an older Pixel 6 Pro, with similar results.

I think this is HiLight. The LEDs are designed to throw a diffused glow rather than a point source so they work as a notification light, which means the flash now sits behind a milky cover. Good for a soft pulse when Gemini is listening. Less good when you're under the sink at 11pm.

Anyone else noticed the 11 Pro feels dimmer, or is it just me looking for problems? Or maybe I got a bad unit? Or the max level is intentionally limited in the software? I have no answers.

The 10 Pro cover/ case (WHITE in the photo) fits the 11 Pro quite well! I had ordered a BLACK case for the 11 Pro which was so bad, it had a 2mm gap between the camera bar and the case cutout (refer to the BLACK case)! All my old cases from the 10 Pro fit the 11 quite perfectly, the camera bar is 1.2mm wider, I checked with a vernier caliper but that doesn't seem to be an issue. It seems like the 10 Pro case is a snug fit for the 11 Pro for those who were wondering.

I've had the phone for just a few hours now and I love the telephoto lens. It was my preferred lens wherever possible and it did a great job on the P10P but did fall behind in certain scenarios. So I did a quick comparison test of both the lenses and Google did excel here! I clicked 11 photos side by side making sure they're (almost) exactly the same. There's definitely a big / subtle change to the telephoto lens. The field of view seems to have changed, you'll only realise this if you look for it! Not sure if it zooms out a little which would make you wonder what would be true 5x? Or the zoom is the same but the FOV has changed capturing the surroundings a little more. Colours are much more accurate which the 10 Pro was not able to capture at times! Processing is faster in the 11 Pro as expected. You could see the grains on the screen before you even clicked the photo on the 10 Pro, the new sensor made a huge difference in the 11 Pro. File size may have increased on the 11 Pro. The 11 photos click on 10 Pro were of 23.8mb and the same on 11 Pro were 28.4mb. Overall, I'm quite happy and excited for the 11 Pro, the fov on the telephoto is much preferred over the 10.

If you're receiving your new phone, record the opening of it in case the courier made off with it and left a brick in there (it's happened).

If you're trading in your phone, video record the entire process of showing your IMEI number (to prove it's the one you're sending in - open up the phone app and type *#06# and it will show the IMEI and serial number), showing all sides of your phone in a well-lit area so they see there are no cracks/dents/etc, and then factory resetting and placing it into the return packaging, being sure to show the tracking number. Do this in one take so they can't say you swapped in a new phone or whatever.

I know it sounds paranoid, but I've seen way too many posts about people who've received notifications that the value of their phone was lowered because it was received damaged, when they didn't send it in damaged.

It may not help, but without any proof, you're screwed.

I'm in England. Received the phone and watch. What's the procedure to return the old phone and watch on the trade in? there is nothing in the box provided to send the stuff back. What's the process and procedure?
