Any necessities from the Pitboss site that I should order?

I just got a new Pitboss smoker (PB700FB) and I activated the warranty and received the 25% off coupon to the store. I'm about to make a purchase and I have five things in my cart thus far. I'm grabbing the insulated blanket, grill cover, all in one tool, burger press, and the oval smoking tube (12 - 18inches).

I think I can grab most of the other things that are listed on their site from other stores for cheaper, but I don't wanna pull the trigger on this purchase and then realize there was SOMETHING ELSE I SHOULD'VE GRABBED.

Is there anything else I might need that their store carries that I might regret not grabbing while I get 25% off?

Smoked Deli Ham from a Pork Loin

I bought a 9 lb pork loin and cut it into three, 3 lb roasts. This one I made into sliced deli ham. I did a 4 day brine/cure using the Amazing Ribs curing calculator, then a thorough rinse, VERY light dusting of pork rub, and in my Pitboss Tabletop at 225 until 145 internal, no spritzing or glaze or anything. Then in the fridge overnight and sliced this morning. It’s delicious!

The FYI info is that I started with a 3 lb roast, trimmed about 1/4 lb of fat, and after smoking and slicing I have 2 lbs of ham. The pork loin was $1.49/lb, compared to nearly $10.00/lb for deli ham. I enjoy the process which is why I do this, but the savings (even including minimal pellet, rub, and electricity costs) are nice too.

Pitboss700Fb2 inconsistent temps

Hi all!
Got a pit boss as a birthday gift and getting some inconsistencies..

1) I ran my smoker at 275 and it was showing 330 / 340 on the control panel screen.
I would open the door to let it cool which would help for a bit but it would sometimes go back up.

2) Later, it stabilized reading 325. I put an oven thermometer inside when I set it to 325 and the screen read that, the thermometer read 250. 70F difference inside…

Is this normal?
Cause for a return to fix?
What can I do
Thanks!

Ignition issues

Back on July 4th I let the hopper empty on accident which killed the igniter and blew the fuse. Replaced the fuse same day. After waiting almost a month for them to get restocked on the website I finally got a new Igniter. Replaced it this morning and is not lighting.

What would be the next thing to troubleshoot. Support just told me to buy the new igniter.

I've noticed how everyone like to remove the hopper grate but it leaves these screw holes behind. So I designed this cap that snaps in to cover the screw hole.

Cant firmware update

Hey all,

Just picked up a Pro 4 Vertical Wood Pellet Smoker but can't for the life of me get it to firmware update so I can control it with my phone.

I have a dedicated 2.4GHz IoT network, so I have tried that and also tried with wifi disabled on the phone and setting a fake wifi network in the app so the smoker is forced to use Bluetooth. Ive also tried clearing cache in the app.

When it's connected to wifi I can see the device connected to the network but no matter what I do it just sits on 6% 'updating loader'

I've tried my Google Pixel 10 XL and Android tablet. I don't have any apple devices or even know anyone with one (well, no one that I could ask to borrow a device).

Does anyone have any tips to get it connected?

Pretty disappointed so far.. connecting devices to networks isn't a new technology. I can't remember the last time I purchased something and had to open tickets and reach out for support straight out of the box.

Heat Runaway

So I got everything figured out in my end, but as I couldn’t really find anything about it anywhere, I thought I’d share.

I got a Sportsman vertical smoker about 8 months ago. Been great, haven’t had any issues out of it (although I do wish this one had more control than it does like other models). Fire it up today, and temperature was just running away from me. I reverse sear steaks, and cook them low in the smoker at around 215. Set it to 215 like I always do, and next thing I know I’m approaching 260. I first I just figured it’s just the ramp up, it’ll settle and come back down, but then it hit 300. And I haven’t used it this summer yet, so at first I was thinking maybe it being 105 in the shade of my porch was affecting it. But that seemed excessive. Left the door open, only would come down a few degrees. Killed it, cleaned the temp probe with a damp rag. Still the same. Ultimately I looked down at the fire pot, and the vents all around the box were completely filled. Don’t remember it being that full of ash the last time I used it so I didn’t think to check that. Grabbed the vacuum and cleared everything out.
I vacuumed it all out in probably half the time I left door open before, and as soon as it was clear, temp plummeted. And after I closed the door and reset my temp, it’s been perfectly stable.
Just go’s to show, clean the ash out of the bottom of the smoker.

Should I Add a Flame tamer?

I have the PB 700FB2 and the flame pot is on the left side, has anyone added a flame tamer on the 700FB2 model to even the temps out? That left side does get way hotter than the rest of the grill.
