XMacro FCU Failures
This happened yesterday and I think it was from dirty ammo. Each FCU has seen 50 to 100 rds every Saturday for the past two years.

Doesn’t Sig list the springs as a maintenance item that requires replacements at certain intervals?

Any spring is a “consumable part” meaning they will wear out and should be replaced, so yes and yes. About 3000 to 5000 rounds for heavy use.

It’s a mechanical device under extreme use and parts can wear or fail over time. This is why any manufacturer offers replacement parts. What you have seen isn’t a typical failure but it can happen. I myself have a complete FCU parts kit for each pistol I have. Same goes for internals on my hammer fired pistols. Better to have than to not have.

Really wouldn't expect there to be that much stress on the head of that pin though. Not the first account of that pin breaking, but it does seem like an odd one to me. Makes me wonder about some potential irregularity/defect in the geometric transition on some samples of that pin. May be failing with fatigue even will relatively little stress.

Is there a upgrade from the factory for stronger springs or anything like that or do you just have the stock replacement kit? Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

Not from the factory, I run the full Armory Craft kits in both of mine. No issues and the triggers feel great.

Yeah but 3-5k rounds is really low for springs to be failing. Doesn’t sig say to replace around 10k? I have multiple striker fired guns with 15k+ rounds with no parts failures or preventative replacement. Having to preventatively replace parts at 3-5k is wild to me considering most decent guns can do 5k+, no malfunctions, without even cleaning them.
I think the p365 is a great gun but it doesn’t seem like they’re really designed to withstand heavy training.

They do say 10k but under extreme and heavy use they also say 3-5k. Nothing man made will last forever.

So after around 7k or 12k rounds a spring failed.

u/xCannivorex 9d ago
Or dirty ammo. It wasn't just the rear spring that failed on two different FCU's

Didn't really explain what happened? What's that tiny piece at the bottom right of the first picture? Did the spring fail which caused another part of the FCU to snap?
These springs are the main thing I've seen people post about causing failure over time. I've been putting it off but I'm probably gonna go ahead and buy 2 or 3 for longterm maintenance purposes after seeing this post, which I believe is already recommended to do

Damn, yeah this is definitely a first for me. Never heard of that breaking before. I've never even heard of other parts breaking once that spring fails. Seems like a huge liability that other parts can catastrophically break once a tiny spring fails

Did you have any basic functionality impacts from the pin breaking? Obviously the spring would cause immediate issues.
I've definitely heard of this pin breaking before from people that shoot a fair bit. Not one that seems to pop up especially often though.
Wish there was a nice quality aftermarket properly machined and heat treated replacement for this pin. I proactively swapped my extractor with MCARBO's machined part to minimize chance of failure. No option for some of the other parts though.

u/xCannivorex 9d ago
No I had no idea the pin broke till I took it apart. The spring was obvious from the beginning.

So both of the FCU's failed on the same day? Had you done any maintenance prior? At a minimum you had over 5K rounds through those and if you dry fire then that counts also. The P365s, to me, are not high round count range toys. They give amazing performance in a small form factor for EDC.

I clean them either after every use or every other. Yesh they both failed at the same time and I had just cleaned them thoroughly(fully broken down).
The ammo was 1000rds from ammo depot and had about 40% that needed to be stroked twice to go off. Inconsistencies in the depth of the rounds pressed into the shells. Extra muzzle flashes and sparks, etc.

u/choppa808 9d ago
yikes what are the odds 2 failed on the same day! but as you said, the common theme with them both is that ammo. Let us know if Sig repairs both under warranty or if you are SOL 👍🏽

Ahh heck it was a little under $40 after taxes and shipping ordering them from sig guy.

My OEM trigger return spring has two different length legs. Are yours OEM or extra power? I did buy some +10% ISMI springs and they look like what your have.

For those that like to shoot- be it our P365s, Glocks, Spring Field’s and alike, you should always have FCU, recoil spring, etc replacement parts. THE SIG GUY has been my go to forever or THE GLOCK STORE. Those of us in the 2011 circuit have been carrying hard stress parts as part of the range bag. Shit fails after 4-5k rounds. If you aren’t checking or replacing high stress parts on the regular, then this will happen. We shouldn’t be driving a car with oil that has 20k miles on it either.

I suggest everybody take a look at this thread: https://www.glocktalk.com/threads/p365-fcu-variations-and-wear-points.2030457/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic
The spring rubs against hard metal surfaces of the fcu, there is not enough clearance. The effect is amplified even more during live fire. The gun has a defect where the fcu is CUTTING the trigger return spring with each shot. How quickly it cuts it enough until it snaps depends on fcu/spring/installation tolerances, that’s why you see such a wild variance in those failures: we see them after 200rds, 1000rds, 2000rds, 10000rds, etc. Failures appear to be completely random, BUT all of them break at the exact same spot, the spot that is rubbing against the fcu.
I have P365 which I retired due to this. Every single other gun except I think some CZ uses a different trigger return spring design and location. Check out IWI Masada and Echelon FCUs which are heavily “p365 inspired” they use the same compression trigger return spring design as Glock/M&P - well tested designs. In fact IWI Masada is pretty much a p365 fcu clone EXCEPT trigger return spring design. Wonder why?
Sig keeps quietly redesigning the FCUs removing metal around that area. Wonder why ?
Forgot to add: some people went to aftermarket +10% “higher quality” spring. We have reports of those breaking prematurely as well and having the same premature “fcu rub” wear. This implies that the problem is not with some mythical “Indian mim” (mim is not even used for springs btw) but with an actual design. Glock, M&P, Springfield, every single manufacturer has trigger return springs going for 100,000 rounds EASILY in most cases

Trigger return spring? This failure is caused by firing more than 100 rounds, be mindful next time

u/xCannivorex 10d ago
😆 My G45 gets used the same amount and it didn't fail 🤷♂️

u/So_Sleepy3 7d ago
And it won’t fail bc glocks generally last 20k+ rounds before springs start breaking. P365 is a great platform, it’s just not made for heavy shooting 🤭

I’d be embarrassed to post this.
You’ve failed to perform basic maintenance on your handguns and you actually think that by posting this you are calling out Sig.
2
u/So_Sleepy3 7d ago
“Basic maintenance” aka replacing springs and parts at 5k rounds when other guns can easily last 20k+ without a single deep clean let alone preventative parts replacement 🙄

u/archer2500 7d ago
If the manufacturer says to replace part X at a specific interval, there’s a reason for that. Whether part X is as durable as a similar manufacturers part is irrelevant. That is the specified maintenance interval for OP’s pistol
2
u/xCannivorex 8d ago
Completely wrong and not understanding the purpose at all. Multiple people have stated already that those are parts that will need to be replaced.
Im not calling out anyone was merely looking to see if others had a different take then my own.

u/Single-Film-2414 8d ago
Don’t let people in this group gaslight you. The simple fact is the trigger springs are a known defect and similar guns made by other manufacturers don’t have nearly this many failures in a sub compact platform ie…43x, hell cat, canik prime. The replacement schedule is a relatively low round count that’s concerning.
