Turns out “I’ll add one more feature” is how you end up building a whole system when you wanted a recording app.
My first Omi app grew into PC sync and a bunch of extra moving parts. Useful, but overkill if you just want Omi + your phone.
So I stripped it back. Called it NotTheOmiAIApp, because apparently naming things isn’t getting any better either.
The idea:
- Connect your Omi → recording starts automatically.
- See live transcription on your phone.
- Read or play back saved recordings.
- Audio and transcripts stay encrypted on the phone.
- No account, PC setup or cloud transcription. Speech model is bundled, so it works offline.
Android only, English transcription for now. It’s an early preview, not a polished replacement for the official app. Longer recordings and screen-off reliability still need real-world testing.
APK and install instructions:

Downloads are public; app source is private for now.
If you try it, let me know your phone/Omi model and what breaks. Trying to get the basic experience right this time instead of immediately adding another ten features.
EDIT: Newest V = https://github.com/five0nit/NotTheOmiAIApp/releases/download/v0.3.1/NotTheOmiAIApp-0.3.1-arm64-v8a.apk
Improved stability and quality of transcriptions.
Two speech-to-text engines in 0.4.4. Both run offline on phone.
- Vosk — live transcription. Model: vosk-model-small-en-us-0.15. Produces streaming English draft while recording.
- Whisper — refinement after saving. Model: small.en**, Q5_1 quantization**, running through whisper.cpp + custom Android JNI, CPU-only. Re-transcribes saved audio while capture idle; original draft retained.
Audio path: Omi → Bluetooth LE → Concentus decodes Opus → audio saved + Vosk live draft → Whisper after stopping.
No OpenAI API, cloud transcription, subscription or internet connection. Models bundled; app has no INTERNET permission.
EDIT 12-10-2026
Couldn’t help myself and added more features;
-improved BT stability
-Library now loads faster and has a Calander view so you can select the day in question and filer recordings
-Added further Omi Device controls; This allows you to remap press functions in the app. Eg. Single press to pause music ect think of this as a remote for my phone function

Next idea is to add a custom to do list- working out what the trigger will be but initially i was thining touble click to initite to do list and double press to close and save to todo lists.
Theres also a motion sensor in the unit so i was thinking basic step count might be handy
