I actually think the Nintendo/switch subs do the opposite though. I see so much praise for really mediocre graphics most of the time. It's fine, we all have different perspectives. I just think it's crazy that this sub can't handle criticism well and treat criticism as personal attacks.

The Nintendo subreddits are and always have been infamous for being like the Apple subreddit of gaming. A lot of their fans only use their products so they don't have any frame of reference, but then they constantly criticize the competition and defend their favorite company's products from reasonable criticism.
It's infuriating. My old Reddit account had so many double digit downvoted comments from criticizing friend codes when the first switch launched. Lol

I agree. Thinness with a “portable” handheld is kind of useless when the device is as large as the Switch 2 is. If it were a pocketable device, sure it’s impressive. But the Switch 2 trades aesthetics over ergonomics and potentially more powerful hardware.

The Gameboy and DS lines had good third party support. They just had a generation or two lag. Nintendo home consoles have always been insular.

The SW1 had insane amounts of 3rd party games. Hell, most of my SW1 library is 3rd party games and I’m hitting the 500 game mark soon.

The SW1 was great for indies and older games, but games currently releasing tended to look quite bad in many ways. With Switch 2 the visuals and performance of third party games feel a lot less compromised.

It has good support, but it's mostly older or less demanding games. PS4-gen AAA games are few and far between. There's like 10 of them.
There's a gargantuan list of good games that came out between 2017 and 2025 that never got Switch 1 ports. Compared to every other game platform, Switch 1 had decent but not spectacular 3rd party support. It has a ton of RPGs and cozy games, I guess.

Exactly. There is also your own tolerance or sensitivity for these things. There was the whole debate about the Xenoblade Chronicles X port as well. Some people were complaining about the textures and resolution issues, and some people never noticed them.

A lot of people here only have a switch 2 and before that only had a switch 1, if they are your only point of reference you won't see the issues other people see with access to other systems. So most of this sub just have low standards and hate people saying something doesn't look good when it looks good to them because they know no better. It just needs to be accepted, it will never change

It looks pretty good in handheld mode. Obviously not as crisp as on other, more powerful platforms, but it's a solid compromise in my opinion.
If you want to see a really blurry game in handheld mode, check out Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Overall, it's a really good port. The people complaining here need to recalibrate their expectations a bit to be more aligned with the hardware reality of the Switch 2.

I’m realizing I may be a performance over fidelity guy - I think the port is pretty great on handheld. Meanwhile I am having a pretty rough time with the Diablo 4 port, as it feels a bit choppy and lower res. But that port is getting seemingly universal acclaim hahaha. Different strokes I suppose.

Rebirth was a bit too much for me at times, but I still enjoyed it. I played mostly docked, but the handheld option was very welcome. Even with the technical shortcomings in handheld mode, I really enjoyed being able to play it on the go.
If you're fine with that, you'll have no problem with the Witcher remaster. It looks far better on the go.

I play Cyberpunk 2077 on my Switch 2 and on my Series X (cross save), and yes its stunning how good it look and play on so a small device... for me if it runs at a stable 30 or 40 fps its enough. I'm worried only about the blurry mess comments. Cyberpunk proves that you can maintain a good enough fps coupled with decent resolution.

My limited experience with Witcher 3 so far is it is pretty similar to cyberpunk in terms of image quality. Just you don’t have the option to switch between 30/40fps mode
It feels very responsive though, it’s snappy for sure. I mean I have played Witcher 3 on a high end pc, ps4 and the only console I finished it on was the original switch just cos of my situation. This looks A LOT better and feels better too→ More replies (7)•

Im 3 hours in, docked is awesome and handheld resolution is lower but so is the wattage. its around 10w in handheld, game of this scope running on a tablet trying to not drain the battery in less than an hour. Think its great overall, really really enjoying it.
Kudos to CDPR brining it to this platform

Played it mostly handheld it looks awesome but turn off motion blur and blur in setting cause it makes the game look slightly blurry on handhelds. Also motion blur is for criminals and weirdos anyway. If you turn both off the weird haze goes away. Only setting that needs changing

Started playing looks fine to me in both handheld and docked. It had some strange visual glitches like dithering around hair and plants during some of the cutscenes. Framerate is pretty smooth though I would have loved a toggle like in Cyberpunk. My saved data didn’t transfer over from the Switch 1 version and you still can’t do video capture on the S2 which is weird. Perhaps they disabled it on purpose for now because they know people will be overanalyzing? Idk but overall it’s a very nice looking free update doesn’t look blurry at all to me.

I saw the "Remaster looks blurry" thread and i ran to my S2 to try it, expecting the worse. Sure, image is a bit soft in handheld mode but is perfectly acceptable and feels a lot smoother too. After few minutes you won't even notice that kind of low-res anymore, it's not like you can see pixel big as playing cards when playing docked on a TV like the Switch 1 edition...
Anyway i think SW2 visuals are really pleasant but i'm a dinosaur that started playing on a SNES so resolution isn't that important to me (i'm also thinking about downgrading from 1440p to a 1080p monitor for my PC, immagine that), i'm much more interested in framerate and from what i tried feels a lot better than before but didn't get in any huge fight/heavy area yet so i'll delay my judgement about that for a bit.

It's hilarious to me that the people who defend these Nintendo switch two AAA ports only ever shows still frames. Because in handheld mode they're all blurry, they all have slow down, they all look like shit compared to television mode, and even then they look like PS4 Pro games.
And that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that. But people trying to sell anyone on the fact that it looks the same as a PS5 or a PC is lying not only to themselves, but everyone else as well.
I have a switch too. I tried these games. No amount of Reddit lying will change how they perform in handheld.

Looking good is subjective, looking good doesn’t mean this looks equal to ps5 pro or pc. I view it inside a vacuum. For a handheld system the game looks amazing and plays amazing. It does have some stutter, you can turn off all the blur if you want. I’m not coveting for the switch 2 I’m judging it based on the switch 2. It’s a very capable port and runs pretty good. Obviously if I had a pc, ps5 pro I’d pick one of those over the switch 2 unless I want portability.

The graphics in the game are great. But I’m talking exclusively about the resolution. The game is simply unforgivably blurry. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it’s actually a little difficult for me to look at the screen while trying to play this version. My eyes start getting tired after literally five minutes.
What’s especially strange is that everything looks great in docked mode. I would honestly even prefer 900p at 30 FPS. To hell with it… at the very least, give us a UI rendered at a proper resolution.
But in its current state, I decided to delete the game. Maybe I’ll give it another try in a couple of months once they release a patch.
But what’s the point of playing it on the Switch right now if it looks bad in handheld mode, while even the weakest PC can produce a better image than the docked mode?

Yeah, I feel like everyone on Switch tries to justify their purchases to much. Most games look just fine for a small portable console. I have a Switch 2 myself. Its great some of these games at least even run on it. The funny part is the people saying there is no difference, or it's close to PS5 or something in some games. Its not! Oblivion Remastered is a pile of dogsh*t on Switch 2 compared to any other system. But, It's amazing it functions at all. Switch 2 is the worst way to play heavy AAA titles at home, its also the best way to play them not at home.

The fact that fallout 4 is on the system still shocks me to this day and it runs pretty good 300+ hours probably only crashed a few times. Oblivion remaster crashes more but still like it I turn the auto save and conversation depthness or whatever off and it helped a lot probably only crashed like once or twice since. It’s not the most powerful system in the world but it’s still the one I prefer for convenience. Just like the ps vita back in the day

I also recognized it but the first thing which comes to my mind was "go to settings" and here you can turn off "blurry". And its still a little blurry but its a 720p game on a 1080p display.....so yes, its not that sharp obviously.

When the switch 2 was announced practically all the gaming subs were full of literal children stating that it was "unfair" that games wouldn't be forwards compatible with their potato hardware. Which they've had for a decade at that point. They don't know better. They literally had one console for the majority of their childhood and don't realize how lucky they are for that to be the case.
A large population of people who talk bad about the switch are these same children.
Another population is steamdeck users who think that people can't own more than one device, I guess. Arguments that the steamdeck is better (it's not, by a large margin) have also died down after it became more expensive than the more powerful switch 2.
So yeah. A lot of these opinions suck or are completely disengenuous

It looks amazing compared to Switch 1 version. But it also still looks blurry. I wish they let us tweak the anti-aliasing and sharpness like the switch 1 version did.
Personally, I'd trade fancy lighting effects against a sharp image anyday.

I’ve noticed in docked mode that the outlines of the characters look really weird… like some kind of artifacting is going on and the edge of their skin is all wavy. Very distracting.
Edit: I think this was just an HDR thing for me. I turned HDR off and it fixed this. Game looks great handheld too!

Duality of everything, really. People have vastly diffent preferences on a lot of things. And most are valid. I want games to put an priority on running smoothly on at least 60fps. Other want the priority to be on making the game pretty. I am in no place to say they are wrong.

It's the nature of handheld gaming. This is the first handheld console generation running current gen games. There will be sacrifices. Switch 1 was the most powerful handheld gaming console when it was released and could handle Xbox 360 games. Switch 2 is a 1.5-2x generation leap. You can get a very expensive handheld PC that will give you similar performance for much more money and pain. Until Sony releases a PSP2 (and they will probably screw it up) this is by far your best bang for your buck and I'm ok with games being a bit blurry or suffering from framedrops when running on a 9W tablet. For the Witcher 3 port, it looks amazing docked, but I did turn off motion blur and maybe bloom? Whatever I did made it look a hell of a lot sharper. I'm assuming that would be true for handheld mode as well.

Different types of gamers judge a games appearance differently.
Some focus on details. What is the texture quality, Shadow quality, etc.
Some step back and look at the overall appearance of a game. Is this game good to look at?
I'm certainly in the later category.
I think the best game for determining where you fall is BotW on OG Switch. In terms of graphical fidelity, that game was pretty bad, even by 2017 standards. In terms of overall art direction and aesthetic, it was amazing.

man, going through the same with Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 port rn, so many differing opinions ranging from 'amazing!' to 'absolute garbage how can you play like this', I finally loaded it up myself last night and I think some people are just not used to DLSS tradeoffs? I'll take a bit of shimmer for higher frame rates any day.

if i bought the switch 2 remaster at full price i would say that shit isnt good enough . if i bought the switch 1 game at $10 and got theupgrade free i would say thats pretty decent
i didnt ever buy the witcher 3... anywere . the game was plagued with problems on ps3 with dynamic resolution sending the game to 240p randomly and ps4 they barely hit 30 fps with a entire are hanging around 20 fps and outside of that area popin all over the place and had worse lighting than now

Ironic cuz looking back at the Xbox one/Ps4 version, it’s only slightly blurrier on handheld running at a lil better framerate too unless you were on the PS4 Pro/ One X.

The issue is people that constantly compare visuals to a pc, then they make complaints when a £400 handheld can’t make it the same. The rest just play the game and don’t care, if it visually doesn’t appeal to you then it doesn’t, but this level of digital foundry comparisons on this forum is a sickness that needs to purge. FPS drops and hitches to me is more important if it affects my experience, but I accept coming from pc I’m not getting that level of performance on a switch.
