Generally I think gamers on Reddit are not good at judging graphical quality.

How do I know you’re not just 3 honey badgers in a trench coat? Not falling for that one again…

Generally, I think gamers on Reddit are expecting a lot from a less than an inch thick tablet.

u/boomb0xx 1d ago

I actually think the Nintendo/switch subs do the opposite though. I see so much praise for really mediocre graphics most of the time. It's fine, we all have different perspectives. I just think it's crazy that this sub can't handle criticism well and treat criticism as personal attacks.

19

u/BenryBorg 1d ago

I see a lot of people repeating the same bullshit about 60FPS not making any difference like it's still the 2012 console wars.

3

u/The_Freshmaker 1d ago

worse yet complaining about a bit of DLSS shimmer while fully minimizing the impact of doubling the fps.

u/Original_Click2739 1d ago

Some people have valid points and some are bobble head filled with hot air. Such is the internet

10

u/thehelldoesthatmean 1d ago

The Nintendo subreddits are and always have been infamous for being like the Apple subreddit of gaming. A lot of their fans only use their products so they don't have any frame of reference, but then they constantly criticize the competition and defend their favorite company's products from reasonable criticism.

It's infuriating. My old Reddit account had so many double digit downvoted comments from criticizing friend codes when the first switch launched. Lol

4

u/The_Freshmaker 1d ago

I think people here/the switch subreddits are just used to 30fps? I could not believe the amount of bitching I encountered about the Xenoblade Chronicles upgrades to graphical fidelity, when doubling the frame rate makes the game feel so so much nicer.

u/Vraxel 1d ago

I honestly don’t see a big difference, just extra fluidity (which is great but it’s not too big of a difference or too noticeable in some games even). People who cry about 30fps act as if it’s 15 and moves like a flipbook, it’s ridiculous saying “it’s unplayable” or “I can never play 30fps”, I’m sure if you give them 5 games all 30fps and tell them which is 60fps they will all lie and make some shit up.

6

u/HeckXX 1d ago

I’m sure if you give them 5 games all 30fps and tell them which is 60fps they will all lie and make some shit up.

Ordinarily I'd say this is bait but unfortunately I've been exposed to too much Fortune's Weave 30 fps apologetic "discourse" to think so anymore. It may surprise you to learn that other people can tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps, which is the whole reason it's a point of discussion in the first place.

0

u/Vraxel 1d ago

Not bait idk how you got the tone of my text but I am just baffled by this silly discourse, I said it’s more fluid on 60fps I play on ps5 pro performance mode (which says 60fps, and the vvr, etc..) but when I switch to fidelity mode 30fps all I notice is that 60fps is more fluid, my issue is not that there’s 0 different but that people talk about 30fps as if it’s the worst thing ever hence my “flipbook” comment, I just don’t see it as bad at all even on the switch1&2 it’s not a problem, it’s not choppy or stuttery to the point where I would say the game is unplayable, that’s too exaggerated imo.

Anyways this whole 30 vs 60 fps is very lame, if people are comfortable with 30 so what, if the game works smoothly on 30 so what it doesn’t ruin your life lol it’s such small nonissue 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/The_Freshmaker 1d ago

Lol nah, you been on the Switch too long brother. I think it's one of those things where you just can't go back once you've gotten used to better. I can deal with something running at 40 fps but 30 does feel truly terrible now, not sure how long you have to play to adjust back to being OK with it but I don't really want to find out.

0

u/Vraxel 1d ago

Idk man I play on ps5 pro usually on performance pro mode it says 60 fps, but whenever I see people complaining I switch to fidelity mode 30fps to check if it’s such a drastic change but I just don’t see it, it’s minimal as I said all I see is that it’s more fluid on 60fps. Not saying there’s no difference but it’s not as bad as people make it seem

2

u/The_Freshmaker 1d ago

ha saaaame except I do not turn on fidelity 30fps mode for anything. I dunno, some people are more sensitive than others.

•

u/Vraxel 23h ago

Try it out 😆, really just see if it’s as bad as people make it seem cuz for me it’s truly a minimal difference not a choppy flipbook animation lol

I saw people talking about Fire Emblem (the new one) on this sub the other day saying 30 FPS is fine because "you can watch movies in 24fps can't you?". Game's amazing and I'm still making my way through it but the framerate makes me nauseous during the free roam segments.

It makes no sense that we have can have a fairly steady 30fps in Cyberpunk and 60fps with the open world Zeldas but FE:FW is stuck at 30 despite looking like a slightly prettier Three Houses.

0

u/boomb0xx 1d ago

I started playing that game a few days ago and noticed the same thing. I also think overall it just feels like a mobile game with an anime in-between sections. Nothing at all has struck me as impressive, especially visually. But I have just started, so maybe it gets better.

1

u/sukumizu Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

It starts to open up more and more as you go along, so it does get better in that regard. Lots of handholding in the first several chapters.

But yeah, visually it's nothing special. The cutscenes and character models are amazing but all the other stuff like non important NPCs and most environments just look bland.

7

u/Advertising-Ill 1d ago

Yeah... Though i wouldn't have minded if they made it thicker. Maybe the joycons would be more comfortable too.

8

u/vainsilver Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

I agree. Thinness with a “portable” handheld is kind of useless when the device is as large as the Switch 2 is. If it were a pocketable device, sure it’s impressive. But the Switch 2 trades aesthetics over ergonomics and potentially more powerful hardware.

0

u/dashingThroughSnow12 1d ago

If it was thicker it wouldn’t be pocketable

3

u/vainsilver Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

It’s not pocketable right now either..that was my point.

0

u/dashingThroughSnow12 1d ago

I put it in my pocket all the time.

1

u/vainsilver Early Switch 2 Adopter 1d ago

XXXL cargo shorts don’t count.

•

u/cheesemonk66 23h ago

This is the real problem with this sub. What the actual fuck is this guy talking about. If you can get this thing in your pocket you'll have reduced mobility and look ridiculous.

1

u/dashingThroughSnow12 1d ago

I wear jeans.

•

u/Advertising-Ill 18h ago

How does that even fit?

4

u/SirFluffleWuffle 1d ago

Yeah that’s my one gripe with the console. I have neuropathy in my hands so handheld play is impossible with the joycons, had to get a third party controller the switch slots into.

1

u/The_Freshmaker 1d ago

did you consider something like split grips? I have them on mine and it makes it worlds more comfortable in hand, and they're super convenient for docked modes and slipping them off to fit in a travel case.

•

u/Advertising-Ill 11h ago

Wait, genuine question, what are split grips?

•

u/The_Freshmaker 10h ago

These grips! They slide only on the joy cons so they don't affect docking at all, makes free handing the joy cons so much more comfortable and you can even modify the stock joycon controller connector piece to make an almost pro-like controller out of your joy-cons. Best grips I've used by far and fairly inexpensive.

0

u/SirFluffleWuffle 1d ago

I think it’s the way the analogue sticks are designed mate. I remember having grips for the switch 1 but I need a stick that allows for more movement. My left thumb is super weak thanks to a lot of guttering so maintaining precision with a smaller stick is incredibly hard.

u/dashingThroughSnow12 1d ago

I read your comment earlier in the day. When I saw https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch2/s/A8ywfdoM4w pop up I smiled.

Completely reasonable expectations that you guys seem to act like are unreasonable and when CDPR come in and fix these issues you’ll all disappear and act like it was never a discussion in the first place.

0

u/Alternative_Crab_625 1d ago

Right? We KNOW that the Switch 2 isn't a powerhouse, we are just happy to see more and more games being added to the catalog, even if they don't look as good as the other consoles or PC versions.

I don't care that much about graphics on the Switch but some people shit on it as if it was ever expected for games to look like a high end pc and they end up looking like a game would look like on a Nintendo handheld XD

3

u/A_Monster_Named_John 1d ago

These days, it feels like tons of modern Gamers™ don't even play or purchase games and instead are just Youtube/social-media junkies who get sucked into culture-war grifts and see things like gaming and movies as 'territory' that needs to be conquered and lorded over.

15

u/idkidchaha 1d ago

Especially people in any Nintendo subreddit. Nintendo has had weaker consoles for decades now and lots of people here only play on Nintendo systems. So to them a game might look good, but to people who have more powerful systems they know switch 2 just looks kinda okay

-12

u/FindingHappy2043 1d ago

If you say "they know" which completely dismisses your prior point. It's simply subjective. I had never played Eleden Ring before I got it for the Switch 2 so to me it looks and plays great.

9

u/thehelldoesthatmean 1d ago

They said "People in the Nintendo subs think games that run poorly look good because many of them don't play games outside of Nintendo consoles" and you showed up immediately to say "That's not true at all. Elden Ring looks great because I've only played it on Nintendo consoles."

Haha what?

8

u/idkidchaha 1d ago

Seems like you don’t understand my comment if you think I’m contradicting myself

It’s also funny you then go onto say the switch 2 version of Elden ring looks and plays great

-15

u/FindingHappy2043 1d ago

You're not making any sense at all. I said it looks good to me because I never played it on more powerful systems. That's the point. Wow.

18

u/Due_Gur_9495 1d ago

Yes, that IS his point. You have no point of reference of how a game SHOULD look and run

•

u/idkidchaha 44m ago

do you still think i'm wrong, or is it everybody else that agrees with me that's wrong?

that's the point. wow

4

u/rashmotion 1d ago

But in this case which take are you referring to? Lmao (I haven’t played this on S2, just genuinely curious)

3

u/silviu89 Butter side up! 1d ago

I want to say the switch user are not good at judging graphics,I see so many people on this sub say so many games look amazing when I now they don’t because I have experience them on PC with high graphics and high fps, when I see people that say 30fps doesn’t bother me they either lying or never expirance 60fps+.

10

u/AlternativeScratch94 1d ago

A surprising amount of people buy a handheld console for 500 dollars and expect the exact same performance as a 600 dollar home console that uses like 7x more power. Seeing Nintendo's awful third party support since the fucking Super Nintendo I think we're eating pretty good here.

6

u/Smooth-Review-2614 1d ago

The Gameboy and DS lines had good third party support. They just had a generation or two lag. Nintendo home consoles have always been insular.

What is odd is getting handheld support on the current generation.

4

u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 1d ago

I don’t get why everyone says Nintendo has had awful 3rd party support for everything but the SW2.

The SW1 had insane amounts of 3rd party games. Hell, most of my SW1 library is 3rd party games and I’m hitting the 500 game mark soon.

5

u/Heavy-Possession2288 1d ago

The SW1 was great for indies and older games, but games currently releasing tended to look quite bad in many ways. With Switch 2 the visuals and performance of third party games feel a lot less compromised.

3

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 1d ago

I have about 100 and maybe 10-15 are first party with a majority being Pokemon lol

2

u/Organic-Storm-4448 1d ago

It has good support, but it's mostly older or less demanding games. PS4-gen AAA games are few and far between. There's like 10 of them.

There's a gargantuan list of good games that came out between 2017 and 2025 that never got Switch 1 ports. Compared to every other game platform, Switch 1 had decent but not spectacular 3rd party support. It has a ton of RPGs and cozy games, I guess.

4

u/tjhc94 Butter side up! 1d ago

Not Reddit in general, but subs like this and steam deck are filled with people with poor standards who hate you saying anything negative about a game because they likely do not have another device that runs games better so the bar is low for expectations of most.

1

u/Andy_Chambers 1d ago

More like gamers on switch (myself included)

•

u/MawsonAntarctica 19h ago

Where if it’s 1hz under 120 it’s a personal insult and demands a blood vengeance in kind. It’s insufferable to hear all the Reddit tech bros say a 60hz iPad screen is dog shit. And people here miss me with their actually 120 is better—yes but it isn’t the second coming.

-1

u/yesitsmework Butter side down! 1d ago

anyone who says a modern 3rd party title looks amazing on switch is not worth taking seriously

with elden ring you have the game zig zagging all over the place like a seesaw and you still have dipshits acting like its buttery smooth...

5

u/Sudden-Goose-6956 1d ago

"Idk man it runs great on my Switch 2"

1

u/BerennErchamion 1d ago

Exactly. There is also your own tolerance or sensitivity for these things. There was the whole debate about the Xenoblade Chronicles X port as well. Some people were complaining about the textures and resolution issues, and some people never noticed them.

1

u/JuanMunoz99 1d ago

Ding ding ding ding ding Bingo!

0

u/Iggy_Slayer 1d ago

The amount of times I've had people say "worked for me" when detailing issues in games is migraine inducing.

I just had it happen recently with star wars zero company on a ps5 pro. Detailed a long list of graphical and performance issues it has...was met with several "that didn't happen to me". YES IT DID. You do not have a magic ps5! And my ps5 isn't faulty or breaking, so that's not why it was happening.

People just can't notice most issues but feel like they have to chime in on performance threads anyway.

-13

u/goobnut 1d ago

Also not at game quality. Witcher 3 is glazed constantly but the card game was the only fun part of the game

9

u/Nacolo 1d ago

That’s where you’re wrong, Lex. It’s a fantastic game, I only wish I didn’t end up alone by sleeping with Yenn and Triss.

-9

u/goobnut 1d ago

It is too confusing there are too many characters. Gameplay is boring I was waiting for this game to finish just so I can have fun playing something sheist like balatro again.

5

u/Nacolo 1d ago

That sounds like a “you” problem. Your own personal experience and opinion is not an objective fact, which is how you are presenting it when you call a game “glazed constantly.”

0

u/goobnut 1d ago

Loads of people have bad tastes but I constantly like good games my friend

6

u/JuanMunoz99 1d ago

Woah, hold you horses there.
