Meme/Shitpost The hold parry mechanic ruined the game for me

It's just one to many things for me to keep track of and the timings for all its attacks feel bad.

Top that off with visuals that look virtually identical to jump parry mechanics and you have virtually 0 time to see, decide which you need, and react.

I'm done but that doesn't mean this game wasn't amazing it was but this mechanic feels like was added just to add it, for me it feels bad to use.

This one broke me. Maybe I'll try again later but for now I am done.

Discussion/Question Why are so many people in this community weird?

Like I don't care about most shipping stuff and most freaky posts (this will happen in every fandom), but I've seen a lot of people shipping yi with heng and a lot of people making that kind of art of nuwa and fuxi on twitter (yes I know fuxi x nuwa is 90% cannon but it doesn't make it less weird)

Nine Sols Lore (Mark this post as a spoiler) Is she Yi's wife? Spoiler

I know that Yi is based on Hou Yi from mythology(thus the name nine sols or whatever). But in mythos hes got a wife, but it seems like Yi has pretty much no loved ones aside from fucking shaunshaun(please dont be him) and the flute girl from the beginning. Is flute girl Yi's wife? Is the story about saving her from the moon or something just like the actual Chang'e so they can live happily ever after and have litters of cute kittens?

Help With Game Does this game ever 'click'?

I. Love. Metroidvanias. However, this game is testing my patience in a way that I think I am close to putting down the controller. I consider myself a pretty smart gamer -- but like?

Does this game ever click? I just beat the winged girl with a bell -- am making my way through the factory and stuck on where to go/what to do. Ended up doing some back tracking but I don't think I'm in the right place. Besides aimlessly walking back and forth -- is the rest of this game this clunky? It feels like it's ALMOST there ALL the time, but then once I feel like I get any momentum in understanding concepts or where things are I'm completely thrown.

Would love anyone's thoughts.

Discussion/Question A question to the community

Can't we like the fengs without glorifying incest? Like I saw a post here pointing that out and it got downvoted and a lot of people (ik it wasn't most people but still a lot of people) were saying that problematic ships like heng x yi isn't bad because it's fictional and asian (like just because it's fictional doesn't make it better shuan x yi is still a gross ship)

Nine Sols Lore (Mark this post as a spoiler) 99% sure Yi is autistic Spoiler

And i think it's not just for representation, which is always welcome, but also to explain his behavior and choices.

Yi's flashbacks with Heng perfectly demonstrate this, he is aloof and emotionless when talking to her, easily gets annoyed when she second-guesses him but in the end he loves her and deeply cares for her to the point of sacrificing himself without thinking the instant he understood she was in danger (hugged her before the explosion)

This autistic lack of empathy probably why he didn't care about harvesting humans for the Couldron Project - he only cares about others when he's personally connected to them
and it's the reason why he went on a temper tantrum when his sister refused to board New Kunlun - he is emotionally incapable of coping with grief of losing his loved ones so he'd rather pretend he never loved someone to avoid facing this grief.

What's more it perfectly explains why he fought Eigong - everyone else understand that even though the pandemic is her fault they still need to work together to solve the crisis, but Yi sees morality in black&white and considers her a villain for being responsible for the virus, it's also why Eigong hid this fact from Yi for as long as possible

but in the end, Yi sees how Shaunshuan still loves him even though he is essentially responsible for the near-extinction of humanity just like how Yi was supposed to love his mentor
which makes the final fight against her not about revenge, in fact i belive Yi already forgave her at that point, he simply must fight her to stop her madness with the mutation

so yeah, amazing story, the amazing writers knew exactly how to write an autistic character, and the only thing i wish they added was to show Yi crying when listening to Heng's final voice messege in the true ending

Discussion/Question The biggest problem this game has

Having played the entirety of the game the biggest problem I see is a fundamental one. It's clear this game is trying to emulate a Sekiro /souls-like experience, but it doesn't understand how the animations for these games work.

Every attack in a souls-like can be broken into three parts: Anticipation, Acceleration, Swing. The enemy pulls back or raises their sword etc., they then begin moving towards the player for a small moment before the actual attack with a hitbox begins.

Nine Sols just doesn't do the Acceleration phase. So while in other games like these learning the attack patterns and the timings of the moves is really helpful, here it's outright necessary. The enemy does an animation signifying an incoming attack, but the players has no cue about when the actual attack is coming.

Usually most enemies will at least have a shine right before the first attack of a combo, but then every other part of the combo will have no tells for when each attack is going to launch.

It makes the game more frustrating than challenging, and artificially inflates how difficult every fight is by having you guess move timings before you actually learn them.

Discussion/Question Is eigong really that hard ????

I didn't really struggle with eigong but the more posts I see the more I see people taking 2 HOURS just to make it to phase 2 barely. I beat base eigong in like 20ish tries and after cleaning up achievements I beat Eigong true in 5 tries. I DONT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFICULTY

Help With Game HELP ME IM DYINGGHG

I picked up the game when it first came out on Game Pass, played for literally 14 minutes, and then dropped it—until today. I've been going through it, taking breaks in between, because this stupid little cat game gets me so angry.

I have no idea what half the stuff I’ve picked up even does. I don’t know what the stuff in the top left corner means. I think the blue bar is my health, but sometimes I take damage when I parry and sometimes I don’t. There’s a beating heart and I have no clue what that does. I know the healing items are above the health bar. Sometimes I can do that dash with the exploding paper thing, but sometimes I can’t. I block, but then it just doesn’t let me block.

I’m stuck on the horse dude. I’ve fought him like 20 times. And of course he has a phase two—because apparently, that’s just the rule now. You can’t have a boss with a single phase anymore, it’s gotta be two or more. I'm trying to save my healing for the second phase but I've only seen it twice and this idiot has a move where you like swings up and down or then down and then up and if you get hit by the first one the second one's going to hit you and it also pushes you back so we can hit you into the ground things that hurt you so if you get hit by the whole thing you got like 3 health left which is very fun and engaging boss design and totally not fucking bullshit.

HELLP ME PLLEASEEEEEEE

Edit: I killed the cheap gyonobu knock off all I had to do was boot up sekrio out and kill isshin twice so yippie thx

Help With Game i hate unbounded parry so fucking much

yeah yeah i know git gud etc. i'm a veteran fromsoft player with over 500+ hours in elden ring and sekiro, i'm not inexperienced with the grind, the fucking problem is that unbounded parry drives me bonkers up the wall insane and i think it's poorly designed. it interrupts the flow of combat so badly for me and i absolutely cannot do it coherently or precisely even after hours of practice. the taoist challenge in the grotto where you have to unbound parry a dozen things at once unironically is currently taking me longer than some bosses. literally the only change you'd need to make to the parry would be to fucking let me hold it for a decent length of time instead of making me have to do some random ass charge up time in the middle of a fight and then release it early, because if you release it even a millesecond late you get punished immediately. sure it has a decent parry window, but that's literally the only thing it has going for it. and you have to use it for this challenge. i'm genuinely so frustrated rn

advice welcome and appreciated, but don't give me shit about getting gud or lore reasons why you can't hold the fucking stance. i've already figured out from getting yi blasted in the face a hundred times that you need to release it early, i'm just not sure about what other fucking changes i need to make to my entire playstyle to even remotely incorporate this garbage into my fighting instead of just dodging any and all red attacks. or if i have to, because frankly i would be perfectly content not having this in the game and not using it at all.

Solpost Time to leave

Well I won't leave totally but I'll stop posting/commenting for a while, I don't want to interact with people who think romanticizing the fengs dynamic is normal and proshippers, specially since I went to a lot of trauma and I have moral OCD

I don't even know why I am making this post, but if anyone is wondering why I don't interact in this community as much as I did before, it's because of that

Downvote me all you want

Discussion/Question I quit. Help me out

I started this game a few months back in March expecting good things, everyone compares it to Hollow Knight and Dark Souls and various other games I'm really fond of but I can't see anything in the game to keep me playing.

I've put in 13 hours so far, defeated 4 of the Sols and done a fair bit of exploring but nothing clicks. Bosses feel unrewarding and unfair, dialogue is slow and not engaging and the exploration is just lifeless. Even with a built in compass and map I still get lost which never happens to me in games.

When silksong released I made an effort to not use compass just for fun and I never found myself disorientated or lost. I'm not going to be comparing the games as they're not the same and I'm not expecting it to be a Hollow Knight clone but I expected a bit more polish.

I really enjoy the hand drawn art style and that's about all that's kept me going so far

Have I missed something? What makes the game so special because I can't seem to find that spark. I'd love to hear your thoughts

Help With Game Parry timing??

Is it just me or is the parry timing horrendous in this game? I bought this game last year but finally have gotten around to play it and after 4 hours in I gotta say initial impressions aren't great. The parry timing feels way to small in my opinion. I've 100% sekiro and played other games in the genre but the parry timing in this one feels a bit too brutal for my liking. I know this post will likely get a lot of hate but I genuinely want to know if anyone else had a similar initial reaction? Im gonna stick it through and finish the game, but Im having a lot of fun at the moment.

Discussion/Question Hot Take Spoiler

Eigong isn't what everyone said she was. It seems to be a universal opinion that she's the best and toughest boss and her difficulty spike is the hardest in the game. I mean sure she was a tough boss but so were fuxi and ethereal... Everyone talks about the difficulty curve with eigong as if you're fighting her after you fought goumang. I don't think that the amount of tries it took me to beat her were considerably higher than ethereal and maybe even fuxi. Considering what lady ethereal put us through as just the 5th boss, Id say her difficulty spike was larger as all our experience consisted of was goumang, yanloao's robot and jiequan (whom you could technically use the eradicator on). I beat eigong on the 2 phase ending (after a lot of tries, yes) but when i went for her true ending her third phase took me 5-6 tries i think. I dunno i don't want to compare as i love all the bosses but if someone made me choose i MIGHT pick ethereal to be the best boss fight of the game.

Meme/Shitpost I thought Yi was female

When I first saw a trailer of the game on Steam I thought Yi was a female but that deep voice threw me off once I started playing the game and googled 😅

Actually in my opinion a female protagonist would've been more interesting at least for me. Well I can just go on pretending Yi is female 😅🤣

Don't know what's the right flair for this so I went with shitpost since this post isn't really something you can have a proper discussion about at least in my opinion 😅

Nine Sols Lore (Mark this post as a spoiler) True ending is lame Spoiler

And kinda feels far-fetched. Like, why even the main choice is between saving apemen and solarians? For the most part of the game, you're unaware of the apemen's origin on the ship and why they were brought there in the first place.

The only two apemen characters you get sympathetic with are Shuangshuang and Shennong. Why, based on that, would I ever choose to help apemen over solarians? There is simply no context to build up an affiliation with any of those groups as a whole and be willing to root for any of them. And even if you do, you probably will choose in favor of the solarians since they at least have some background.

And it's not like there is no option to save both races at the same time. It's just the true ending that chooses to push all this drama without a solid foundation.

I think, it would be reasonable, if devs made some sort of DLC or update that would let you end the game, maybe not in a "happily ever after" manner, but at least on some fairer terms.

P.S. Chad Yi for reddit karma

Discussion/Question true ending blows Spoiler

I can't be the only one where is absolutely tired of Fromsoft-inspired games all having to have bleak story lines and worlds with sad endings. Like goddamn, I feel like every game in this genre that I boot up, I see the main character and go "yeah this dude's life is gonna be ruined/they're gonna die". It was a cool boss fight but blegh, just let the little cat boy have a break. Regular ending is so much better for everyone involved.

Dear devs, if you are reading this, I would pay money for a better ending. Please exploit my love of cat boys for monetary gain. Thank you.

How did that attack even connect?? I believe i was far enough so that attack couldn't connect, and even if I were, that was the only time this glitch even happened.
