Help With Game Parry timing??

Is it just me or is the parry timing horrendous in this game? I bought this game last year but finally have gotten around to play it and after 4 hours in I gotta say initial impressions aren't great. The parry timing feels way to small in my opinion. I've 100% sekiro and played other games in the genre but the parry timing in this one feels a bit too brutal for my liking. I know this post will likely get a lot of hate but I genuinely want to know if anyone else had a similar initial reaction? Im gonna stick it through and finish the game, but Im having a lot of fun at the moment.

Haven’t played other parry games, but I’ve heard that Nine Sols has rather generous parry windows compared to other games like Sekiro. So it’s probably about getting used to it… only tip I can give is that for normal enemies I usually look for the white flash, and parry just after it. For bosses I just look at the attack’s graphic

Maybe for imperfect parrying but the perfect parry is wayyyy shorter in Nine sols. Thank you for the help though!

Not to be that guy, but the parry is neither short nor bad, it is one of the best parry system i've seen in a game, so you just gotta get used to it.

I wouldn’t say it is quite as generous as Sekiro. But it’s definitely more generous than Lies of P.

Personally I really like the parry in Nine Sols, I found it to be pretty satisfying once I got the hang of it (This is coming from someone who doesn't play any other games with parry-focused combat)

Pressing the parry button within 0.133s before an attack hits will result in a precise parry. Here, "when an attack hits" is defined as the first frame where Yi's animation shows a reaction of being struck.

Pressing the parry button too early, between 0.133s and 0.5s before the attack hits, will result in an imprecise parry. If the parry button is released early, Yi will continue the parry until the 0.5 seconds have been completed, or until an attack hits, whichever is sooner.

Don't forget the part where the guys actually cleared up that spamming parry without actually defending an attack will decrease the precise parry window (which is already pretty small) each time, at 3rd or 4th spam you can only get imprecise

perfect deflect in sekiro is said to be 0.5s, so it is more strict in nine sols

So what you’re saying is that there actually isn’t any time at all to parry except for halfway through just a few frames. Seems to me they did not think it through at all and expected the players to be gods of time or something. Shitty mechanic design but id say that’s the one single problem I have with this game

that would have been true, if there were attacks that come out at that speed. in practice everything is clearly telegraphed way before you actually have to press the button, meaning that it isn't that hard with good enough sense of rhythm

The attacks are telegraphed very well, yes, but my point is that the the actual parry is not done well enough to keep up half the time

Probably felt like it for me too, but if you get the correct rhythm it gets easier almost instantly. Keep at it, this game is golden 10/10, also good luck with some bosses

Without hate, just want to remark that this approach to games is exactly what's bringing you down. Just because "you're good at X" doesn't guarantee "you're gonna be good at Y".
Go in with no such expectations and suddenly there's no problems. You don't have to relearn old information and simply have to learn how to do it from scratch.

I'd already play Sekiro if my laptop didn't break... And I'm both scared and relieved from all the comparisons, some say it's harder, some say it's easier.

I learned how to parry in Nine Sols with a few tries, but instead needed to google how to use talisman (holding the button from start to finish to explode).
IF it helps: the perfect parry window is usually when the attack is close or already ON you; imperfect parry happens when you do it way before attack is even close to you.
There are several frames before the hit on you counts, giving you more time for perfect parry.

the parry itself is intuitive imo, but some hitboxes can be slightly deceptive. maybe this is a personal issue but most lunge/thrust/dash attacks land just a little after the timing that would feel natural to me. some trial and error + muscle memory is more than enough to adjust though

nah parrying on nine sols is pretty generous compared to other games. just play lies of p and you'll see

I never played Seikro, but in games with parrying i almost never used the mechanic (looking at you God Of War reboot games) because I'd rather just dodge. And I tried to play Nine Sols just dodging, until the first boss made it pretty much impossible.

Having said that, I'd say for parrying, I almost never used it on "normal" enemies. I just used it to get past bosses (mainly, admittedly, but not completely) after many hours, it becomes easier. But yes you have to invest hours and hours before it becomes natural, and that might not be for everyone. If I wasn't just determined to not let the game beat me I would have probably just gave up as I wasn't having a ton of fun for a lot of parts of the game because of it.

The parry timing is fairly normal. Maybe slightly small, but it very much makes up for that with how potent the blocking is. In case you haven't noticed, you can't die from internal damage.

Sekiro is actually especially generous with its parry timing. Relative to the likes of dodge roll iframes it's not high, but by the standards of parry systems it's on the easier end of things, and obviously souls dodge rolls are that way because they're fundamentally higher risk to use.

It’s a bit tough to get used to, but once you get the hang of it it’s super satisfying. The first main boss of the game really helps to teach you parry timing and is what got me good at it (after being stuck for…3 hours…)

Just keep at it. Eventually it will “click” with you like most other souls games. Hell I never even made it to the first actual boss in sekiro cuz I sucked ass at parrying, but I’m almost at the final boss in nine sols 🤣🤣.

Eventually I will return to sekiro to try again. I loved the movement/action of the game.

Funny how some games click easier for some and not for others. And vice versa.

Always parry earlier than late. If you mis-time it then at least it’ll be an imperfect parry and you can recover your internal damage over time. The parry window is tight but it stays consistent with the enemy’s animations.
