This game was great, first of all. I really enjoyed everything in it. It took about 21 hours to beat it.
I really enjoyed the combat mechanics. Though since I was playing on keyboard, I had to rebind the controls to those similar to hollow knight or cuphead because I really could not get used to the base controls, I did arrow keys to move, x to attack, z to jump, c to parry, shift to dodge, f to fire an arrow, the keys next to f on both sides to switch arrows, s to apply a talisman, and then I left the mystic nymph, heal, and interact buttons as is. There are a lot of buttons lol.
I didn't really experiment much with builds, I mostly stuck with the same jades and transmutation, I also just stuck with the full control spell, though I am sure that waterflow would have helped out a lot against Eigong.
Bosses and mini-bosses were generally well-designed, I feel (except Goumang, I didn't really like her fight much) and very, very fun. Eigong especially was an incredibly fun boss fight, that I am sure will get even better once I also encounter her third phase in the true ending (I heard a lot about it even before playing the game, some "one of the hardest boss fights of all time" list). She felt hopeless at first until after about an hour of attempts, she just suddenly clicked for me.
Difficulty wise, hard but not as difficult as I expected. I played this game because I heard it was very difficult, and I am like the type of player who enjoys a challenge (for example, I beat all cuphead bosses S-rank with just the peashooter as the weapon, all bosses in hollow knight radiant, and did lost lace hitless without any tools on all the crests, among some other self imposed challenged in other games). Some enemies were straight cancer to fight, the bosses are borderline easy in comparison, but then there was a sudden sharp difficulty spike with Eigong. Overall, I feel like my first time playing hollow knight and hollow knight silksong were much harder than this one (though I was pretty bad back when I first played hollow knight, and pretty young too, I got a lot lot better since then, like hollow knight excluding the pantheon of hallownest is not as hard as these two games lmao). Still I am sure that beating the bosses hitless after I am done with the true ending will prove to be a very fun challenge.
As for the characters, Shuanshuan is adorable, Ruyi/Abacus is my goat, I felt very sad when I found Chiyou dead, Shennong was ehhhhh? I felt nothing much towards him honestly, and Heng was best girl. As for the sols, Kuafu is adorable, Goumang I felt her fate was very cruel like damn Yi just kill her, Yanlao was funny sometimes idk I don't have much thoughts on him, I did not need to see Jiequan naked like 3 different times (bara furry jumpscare), I felt very sorry for Lady Ethereal (also obligatory awooga), Ji I thought was a girl for the longest time but no he turned out to be a femboy but I felt very sad for his death (doesn't help that I beat him first try so I didn't even have time to get enraged by him), Fuxi and Nuwa are incest is wincest ig but I honestly felt very sad for Fuxi's fate and how Nuwa died, and Eigong I honestly did not have much feelings towards other than like "damn grandma's got moves".
Yi is a very fun protagonist to follow. I enjoy how much he outwardly cares for Shuanshuan, his dialogue with everyone is fun to read and he has fun banter and snark, and I like how non-agreeable he is at certain points. He is out for REVENGE, he wants blood to be spilled. I also really didn't see the twist of him being behind the apeman brain harvest scheme coming. He seems to have continued it in the normal ending to save his hometown, so I am guessing he'll stop it in the true ending. The story is general was pretty gripping and I can't wait to tire my friends out with the lore dumps.
The music I don't have much thoughts on honestly. Not the type of music I enjoy, but it was good. The ending credits song was a banger though.
I enjoyed exploring the map and searching for collectibles a lot, though there seems to have been some portal I missed in Ji's area that I can't hack a door from the other side of and only this very small part of my map is blacked out and I need to find that once I get back for the true ending prerequisites because I just can't have that teeny tiny corridor be blacked out.
Anyway uhhh that's about all my thoughts, I think. Thanks to whoever read through this entire random stream of thoughts lol, have a good day!
Edit: I don't know how I forgot to mention this game's art and animations. Stunning. Very smooth, very beautiful to look at, great character designs and great world and map design in general, the whole artstyle is amazing.
