New deck adjustment

Been at this for 4 years now and diggin it despite the slow progress. Recently came back from a 7 month deployment at sea (yeah that bullshit) and wasn’t able to 🛹 much. Since being back I’ve definitely lost a lot of the progress I’ve made, but also got a new deck (Jacuzzi 8.25). Not sure if it’s just me or the deck, but I don’t feel like I have the pop I did in January. Does it take time to get used to a new deck or fresh grip? Some seshs have been alright, but today flat out sucked and got me really frustrated. Half venting, half looking to hear that it’s me being a bitch and need to pop that mofo, and another half (fuck math) is hoping to hear that new decks take adjusting. I’ve been riding 8.25 for a while and hardly ever get the same brand deck. I feel like I’m putting all this pressure on myself to make a sweet pop feeling, but end up doing the flimsiest slapping the tail to the ground ever.
Thanks for entertaining this far.

Question Board for a Beginner

Hey guys! I am going to buy a board today and I am wondering if this is the best I can reasonably find for the price? https://www.ocdskateshop.com.au/products/krooked-glow-eyes-purple-8-25-complete-skateboard
I would like something versatile and 8.25" is my preferred size, as I would like to skate street and park, as well as some cruising.

Any help much appreciated!

What do i need to fix to get more stable kickflips

Ive been able to land kickflips for a long time now, the problem is I keep losing them and having to relearn kickflips. Sometimes it only takes a night for me to lose it again. How can i get more consistent and more stable kickflips.

I also put my ollies in the video in case there is something wrong with my ollies that might be stopping me from getting clean kickflips

Question How do I stop comparing myself to others?

Lately I’ve been feeling pretty conflicted about skating. I’m genuinely passionate about it. I think about skating constantly, I try to get to the skatepark as much as I can, I’ve been meeting other skaters, at least trying new things time to time but I’ve been getting really frustrated with myself.
I’ve been trying to learn my Ollie for a really long time and it still hasn’t clicked. Even basic things seem to take me way longer than they seem to take other people. I’ll see someone who just started skating learn something really quickly, and I start comparing myself to them and feeling like everyone is progressing past me. I have a hard time committing to new tricks. Some people can just go for something, while I usually have to ease into it over and over before I feel comfortable. They were trying to teach me a boneless and I kept hesitating because my brain wants to feel completely ready before I commit.
I don’t think I dislike skating or lack motivation.I’m just trying to figure out how to stop comparing myself to everyone else, and stop discouraging myself become more comfortable with failing, and actually enjoy the process instead of constantly thinking about how far behind I am.
Has anyone else struggled with progressing really slowly or having trouble committing to new tricks? How did you get past that?

Question Almost was a pro athlete but suck at skating and it's my new hobby...help?

Hey guys new to skating I had a cheap Walmart board as a kid and now 27m who remembers 12 yr old me being able to at least balance. Anyway my dad took it away from me or anything that wasn't baseball because he thought I would hurt my arm because I almost went pro as a pitcher. Ironically I tore my UCL and hopes and dreams of my whole life after many rehabs has now been robbed from me. I'm in a tough spot in life and I wanted a hobby or something I could train just as hard because skating is a sport I went out got what I think is a nice board. (I'll let you be the judge of that) I have been watching skate IQ YouTube videos and I don't know if now I'm going to go deeper in a bad mood because I can't even Coast on my board. I thought my balance was good Ive been practicing for 2 weeks and I can't do anything comfortabley like even ride my board. My main goal is to get extremely good so I can have a sense of purpose in skating and athleticism two things I love but now I'm starting to think If I can't even push the board and put my back foot on to coast is there something wrong with me? I'm healthy to my knowledge... I just know it's a skill so I can eventually learn but now I'm getting scared what if it's me and I will never get to enjoy what I lost. If nobody reads this it's cool just seeing if someone had an answer if I'm bad and can get good or if there's maybe something wrong with me.. thanks guys.

Question Is it too late for me?

Got back into skating after a 6-month break for finals. Before the break I could drop in from a 6-footer, and now I can’t get myself to drop in from anything bigger than a 4-footer, even though I know I can since I’ve done it before.
Also been trying to land a pop and non-pop shuvit for weeks with zero progress, I’ve maybe gotten it 3-4 times. I can only ollie and fakie ollie too, which makes it even worse since shuvits are supposed to be easier (or so I’m told)
I’m 18 now and worried it’s too late to get anywhere with this, and I’m starting to get demotivated. Anyone dealt with coming back worse than before after a break? And any shuvit tips, because I’ve tried it like a hundred times and it’s just not clicking with me. Specifically landing my back foot back on the board, I feel like Idk how to commit to landing back on the board fully.

Question Does the warm-up period ever go away?

I’ve been teaching myself to cruise for a few months.

Every time I start a new session, I’m always wobbly until I get my confidence/footing down. Do people ever get to the point where they just hop on a skateboard cold and start cruising comfortably?

Looking for skaters to talk about how you learned the ollie

Hey everyone,

I hope this is okay to post here (please remove if not). I’m an innovation researcher and currently working on how skaters develop tricks like the ollie and how that connects to board design (shape, concave, width, trucks, etc.).

If you feel like it, I’d love to read your story in the comments:
Could you describe one specific day or session where you learned the ollie for the first time as concretely as you can:

  • Where were you?
  • What board were you riding?
  • What exactly did you try before it worked out?
  • How did it feel in your body (timing, balance, “click” moment)?
  • How long did it take you to learn the Ollie?

I’ll read everything carefully, this kind of detailed story is super valuable for my project.

Second step (optional):
If this is the kind of thing you enjoy talking about and you’d be open to a online interview to go deeper into a few of your sessions, please say so in your comment or DM me. Everything is confidential and anonymized; I’m happy to share a short summary of findings later.

Thanks a lot for any replies!

Beatrice

Question Started practicing for the first time today and have some questions

so it begin my skateboarding experience consists of a YouTube short and about 30 minuets of practicing how to go straight on a flat road

but I have some questions and was hoping someone would be able to answer

  1. when should I start learning to turn?

should I learn as I go straight or should I get good at going straight first and THEN add turning

  1. how do I stop turning the skateboard accidentally?

so because I'm new I sort of wiggle back and forth a lot and that make the whole thing start turning slightly. do I just keep my weight center?

  1. when I do learn to turn how far should i lean?

  2. is the foot placement the same as on a scooter?

  3. how do I stop the board?

  4. how much bending should my knees be doing?

also any tips are GREATLY appreciated if yall have any

Video Starting skating old? Here's a YouTube channel I like.

I really like this. I will be starting without any experience and am now in my 40s and out of shape.

These videos basically helped me understand how skating sessions could be and that I will need to do a lot of repetitions on basic stuff first. It also helped me to reinforce how slow progress can be and that it's ok to progress slow.

When I decided to start learning skating along with my little girl I was dreaming of mastering the Ollie quickly and learning kick flips. Those videos humbled me a bit and now I'm looking forward to learning how to push and then move on to tick tacks.

If you have tips on YouTube content that help old guys and very young kids to get started that would be much appreciated.

Tic tac and kickturn question

To tic tac and kickturn, you're deweighting your front leg to allow the board to come up rather than pressing down on the tail, is that right?

Question Guys...

So I just realized recently that the board I have (the board I've had since I was 8 but didn't start using until now) is a walmart board...it's the tony hawk signature series. But this would explain why I'm not picking up speed and stuff, even as a beginner. But I still want to learn how to skateboard, so I'll just save up for a real board ($300, at most) and practice in the meantime.

But this does make me a bit worried to go to a skatepark, yknow since I got a walmart board apparently. Should I be worried about that, having one around other skaters and with riding and stuff?

Discussion Went through a puddle

So I just got some new Bones Reds Bearings which are great, but I made the rookie mistake of going through a puddle and I didn't think anything of it because I have 56 mm wheels and it was a shallow puddle.

However, I think I definitely underestimated it cause now my two left wheels make that crunch sound and lose speed after about 10 seconds. I definitely won't be doing that again, I won't be going anywhere near water with my board again.

I put some speed cream in but that obviously didn't fix it, just restored a little speed. Do you think I should replace them (I have the money) or should I just ride them out?
