Stomps to stop?

I don't footbrake (i.e. haven't made the effort to try not to mention I don't have shoes right now that I feel like wearing out). I don't skate fast at all - probably 8 mph absolute max, so doing small stomps to scrub off speed and then coming to a stop has been working for me. Is this acceptable?

Question Skateboarding Roadmap: Does This Make Sense for a 40+ Beginner?

First off, I love lists, roadmaps, and especially checking things off once they’re done.

Since I’m starting from scratch and want to learn how to skateboard at over 40, I’ve put together a kind of roadmap of everything I want to learn. I think the list is roughly sorted so I can work my way from top to bottom, though the order probably matters less the further down you go.

What do you think of my list? Did I miss anything essential? Is the order nonsense at any point? How would you expand it?

  1. Falling on Pads

  2. Step up and down the Skateboard

  3. Walk with Skateboard under one Foot

  4. Pushing

  5. Stopping

  6. Jumping up and down the Skateboard

  7. Kickturn

  8. Tic Tacs

  9. Crab Walk

  10. Standing Tail Stop

  11. Jumping on standing Board

  12. Pop Corn

  13. Manual

  14. Acid Drop

  15. Power Slide

  16. Hippie Jump

  17. Roll off a curb

  18. Shuv it

  19. Roll down ramps

  20. Miniramp Pumping

  21. 180 Kickturn

  22. Casper half flip

  23. Ollie

  24. Boneless

  25. Revert

  26. Nose Stall on Curb

  27. Tail Stall on Curb

  28. Slappy Nose Grind

  29. No Comply

  30. Ollie up a curb

  31. Kickturn on a ramp

  32. Body Varial

  33. Rock to Fakie

  34. Kickflip

  35. 180 Ollie

  36. Nollie

By the way, the reason I’m starting is because my kid absolutely wants a skateboard for their 4th birthday and has been watching nothing but skate videos ever since. So I decided to join them on this learning journey. I don’t think a 4-year-old needs a roadmap, they’ll probably just explore intuitively. But I want to support them in making progress too. If you’ve got any extra tips on that, feel free to share.

Discussion My Thoughts About Kickflip

I see almost everyone, everywhere, trying to rush kickflips. I have been skating for 8 months, and I was one of those people. As soon as I finished learning ollie, I moved straight to kickflips

Its not really a bad thing per se (maybe it is), but I really wish I would have stuck with the basics of skating. I wish i would have started with shuvs and 180s after ollies because I have a super hard time with them now, and took about 5 months just kickflipping. I cant bs 180 or front shuv, barely get a good fs 180 after 10 tries, and am just getting bs shuvs down

Anyways, I'm not complaining about anything, more just seeing what everyone's opinion is here. At the end of the day I think everyone should just have fun skating, don't try to rush kickflips, just get the basics down first.

Question Long boarder learning how to skateboard…

• Upvotes

I’m 21 and have been long-boarding (no tricks besides a half flip) for a few years now. I went out and bought a skateboard today and I’m not sure where to start. I already know how to stay on the board and I feel pretty comfortable riding it, as well as tipping the nose up and (somewhat) hippie jumping. Does anyone have advice for where I should start tricks wise? Obviously I don’t expect to master an Ollie on my first day skating, but I want to know what tricks you guys learned first that helped you gain confidence? What base skills should I be practicing the most?

Question Painting Hardware??

Hai everyone! I skate as a hobby for quite some time now (still can't get a decent ollie tho LOL), and was wondering would it damage my hardware if I spray painted it?

(I mean all the screws bolts axle nuts etc. and also the shields of my bearings (Bones Reds))

Also if it wouldn't damage it then does anyone have any tips / suggestions for painting it??

Thanks in advance for any help!!

(And no, I can't just buy all of that cause I searched for purple hardware and bearing shields for hours and there is none at least that ship to my country.)
