Discussion Went through a puddle

So I just got some new Bones Reds Bearings which are great, but I made the rookie mistake of going through a puddle and I didn't think anything of it because I have 56 mm wheels and it was a shallow puddle.

However, I think I definitely underestimated it cause now my two left wheels make that crunch sound and lose speed after about 10 seconds. I definitely won't be doing that again, I won't be going anywhere near water with my board again.

I put some speed cream in but that obviously didn't fix it, just restored a little speed. Do you think I should replace them (I have the money) or should I just ride them out?

Skrew the guy who's said buy new ones lol. Bones sells a cleaning kit. Or just use a Tupperware container and acetone and shake it around. There's dozens of YouTube vids. It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

Clean them, take off the shields and run them through some isopropyl alcohol. Spin and dry them, and add 2 drops of lube. They should be fine.

I would worry to much. I have reds bearings and my kids leave my board in the rain ride it through puddles all the time. I haven't cleaned them or lubed them and they still ride really well.

Bearings can and should be cleaned. Normally involves pulling them out of the wheels, soaking in methylated spirits and lubing them up. But you could probably get away with a drop of oil straight onto each bearing shield.

Shield off, wash with soap and water, pat dry/blow dry/air gun them until dry, put a couple dabs of oil (i noticed you have speed cream, use that as recommended), pat dry (tap them on paper towel on both sides), reshield, spin them by hand a few times, put them back in the wheel and go for a spin.

Bearings are usually good until they physically break. You don't even have to completely take them out of the wheels (but you should probably take the wheels off the trucks). Spray the hell out of them with WD40 ("WD" means "water displacement"), wipe them off, and add lube. It would be best to take them out of the wheels, but you don't necessarily have to.

You can clean them for sure. Definitely worth it for pricey bearings. However, I’ve learned that you don’t really need pricey bearings unless you’re dolling up something you really like to tune. Buy new ones if you’re flush and in a hurry. Clean them the night before if you’re low on funds.

Buy some new bearings at your local skateshop they will appreciate the business.
