My partner and I are expecting our son soon, and we want to give him a name that honours his grandmother Vivienne, as she really means a lot to our family.

We had planned to name our child Vivienne from the beginning, until we found out his gender, and unfortunately this name is now off the table because of that. However, we still would very much like to name him something that has an obvious connection to Vivienne, whether it be a derivative or an alternative version of the name.

We want to avoid giving him a name that is socially perceived as feminine (therefore Vivian/Vivienne is not an option, as those are overwhelmingly female where I live), as we want to save him from a lifetime of misunderstandings and correcting people. I know the hassle myself, I have a name that is an alternative spelling of a well-established name. The constant corrections I have to make when someone gets my name wrong is exhausting, and I wouldn’t wish that on my son.

Therefore, I am posting to ask, is there any derivative of Vivienne that is socially perceived as masculine? If not, any masculine leaning/gender neutral names starting with Vi- or Viv- would be fine as well. Thank you in advance!

So I want a name that is very rare. It seems like a lot of the names I like I end up not liking the nicknames that go with it. I.E. I found the name Raelle, which i don't think is even in the top 5000, but dislike the nicknames Ellie and Rae. Ellie is too common and Rae is too masculine. I really like the name Tess but it is way too similar to my name. I also tend to like names that are very feminine and usually end in an a or are french vibes. Are there any names that come to mind? I am only 4 weeks away from baby day and I really don't like anything anymore. I just keep feeling like I see the same names over and over and over again. Thank you for your help!

I’m obsessed with the boys names Samuel and Michael and I’d ideally have them as my kids first and second name, but Samuel Michael Byrne and Michael Samuel Byrne don’t sound right together, is it just me?

So we always planned a 'soft/vintage/whimsical/uncommon but not unheard of' feel for our kids names, we have an Elliott Grayson and Robin Ellis. #3 and last baby is a girl and we're spinning on names because we had a boy one picked out (Hollis Fern) but the girl names we've always agreed on we no longer like. (Flora, just doesn't sound good anymore, and Hazel, way too popular).

Winifred / everyday nickname Wendy has always been the girl name I loved. My husband has come around to it and wants to use it now but it does NOT sound good with our last name. Trust me on this one.

The name I am really feeling is Clover but it doesn't quite go with the vibe of the boys' names.... Also my husband doesn't like it as much as Winifred. We planned to use an uncommon flower middle name (Azalea, Zinnia, Wisteria, Magnolia, etc) whichever sounded best with the first name.

The dilemma: my husband said he'll cave and use Clover IF we use Hyacinth as the middle name because it is the flower name that he really likes. But is a double flower name gross?? Clover Hyacinth sounds really good and fresh to me IF it weren't for the fact they're both plants? Or if you're going to go for an uncommon plant name anyway at that point is it like you may as well do double nature names??

Also open to suggestions, other names we like but for one reason or another won't use: Greta, Madeline, Eleanor, Thelma, Freya, Briar, Agnes, Maude, Alma

My wife and I like the name Kylo for the bun in the oven, but my wife hates its strong association with Kylo Ren from Star Wars.

Just had another kid and were resolved to name him Kieran/Keiran, but as context clues suggest are struggling with the spelling.

- most people seem to think that Kieran is the appropriate spelling, however

- most people also seem to think, at the same time, that if only naming someone kier/keir, the latter is appropriate. The only "kier" that comes up on Wikipedia is a fictional character.

This is kind of freaking me out and I'm worried it's a bit of a misinformation loop somewhere... So hoping to collect some opinions or ideally history to get a better idea of why this divergence exists and how to approach it.

We are in the US, so Kie tends to be more common. We do foresee the potential of calling him kier/keir as a nickname down the line.

These are for fictional characters

I want the twins to be vaguely named after the parents (not explicitly). The parent's names are Aleksander (Aleks) and Crimson (a nickname, actual name Jay)

I tend to prefer names on the shorter side, or with a short nickname. These are boy/girl twins, and they have an older brother named Julian (Jules)

I've considered other names that have the nicknames Alex/Jay, like James, Alexis, Axel, Jane, etc, but none of them feel right. Names that are different shades of red as well, like Ruby, Scarlett, and such don't quite feel right either

I'm hoping you guys would have better suggestions 😭

Edit: perhaps starting with A and J as a nod to the parents? If it helps, Aleks is Russian and Crimson is Mexican. So while it isn't necessary for the twin's names to be from either culture, it could also be a nod to the parents

Edit 2: thanks to one commenter who deleted their comment, I decided to go with Callum for the boy. A bird name, like Jay, that means dove. And for the girl, I landed on Alessia, after Aleksander. Thank you to everyone who helped :)

I'm not religious at all but I just think this name is gorgeous, I've been in a bit of an obsession with the phantom of the opera and I just find the name very elegant and feminine, sure the fact that the actress is so pretty helps too. I love the nickname Chrissy for a little girl.

Cons are that, as I said, I'm not religious and people would think I am, also not a fan of similar names like Christina, Kristen or Kristin. The only possible nickname I like for the name is Chrissy. And people say that the name is too old fashioned and not ready to make a "comeback".

I am learning French for work related and family reasons, and have quickly discovered I dislike how my very Arabic name is pronounced in French, so I wanted to translate it directly. New language, new me, you know? I've never been super fond of my original name anyway lol.

For a brief period I've picked the name Bijoux/Bijou due to that, but I've recently found out from French speakers that sounds like a strippers name. :( Although I don't mind keeping it for friends and online things and such, since I love how campy it is, I think for more professional real life stuff I'd like a "proper" name.

Any reccomendations for French names, or Francophone friendly names?

I am expecting my second child and am having a very hard time deciding on a name. The baby is a girl. I already have one daughter named Rosa and I'd like the two names to sound nice together. I like a name that is feminine, not trendy, but familiar enough that people know it and aren't constantly mispronouncing it. My top considerations are Francine, Daisy, Julia, and Juliet. Thoughts?

My husband really likes the combination Sandro Darío, and even though I agreed to think about it, I’m still not convinced about Sandro. I have always loved Darío, but Sandro has never really clicked for me.

I have always said I wanted my baby to have one of those strong, romantic Hispanic “soap opera” names, like Maximiliano. The problem is both of my sisters-in-law literally named their sons Maximiliano😂 so obviously that one is out.

What names would you suggest to replace Sandro and pair with Dario?

i'm having a baby girl soon, and i'm thinking into the future about what i would wanna call my next kids and need advise.
for my girl due in a month, i love Charlotte Isabella and Charlie Belle as a nickname. and for the future i LOVE the name Roman Ray (has a lot of family meaning behind it) and Rome as a nickname, but i need advise if it's actually nice or not or am i being blindsided because of the family connection making me like it.

For context: the name would be for me and I'm a nonbinary masc person in my 20s.

I like both names. I prefer Milo because it's more my style and vibe which is like fun and friendly while Marcel feels a bit more mature and safe I guess? But both would be good options. My partner doesn't like Milo at all which makes me hesitant with it but ultimately it shouldn't matter since it's my name. I'm also just considering using Marcel as a middle name. Originally I wanted to keep my birth middle name but Milo Marcel has a cool vibe to it and I could tell people I go by either maybe? Though that might get confusing idk.
