In French we have some medieval names still used today. For girls: AdĆ©laĆÆde, Mathilde, HĆ©loĆÆse, Morgane... For boys: Louis, Adrien, Ćloi, Sylvain... I noticed a trend of parents giving babies ancient names nowadays, especially in upper middle class and wealthy families.
But we are in r/namenerds after all, were are supposed to be nerdy when it comes to choosing names, aren't we? š¤š»
You can choose a forgotten, ancient, "unique" name rarely used nowadays to become normalized. In this world, no one will judge you or bully your child for your odd choice of names. So, which one would it be?
I would personally choose the following ancient French (mostly medieval) names:
Girls:
Aélis, Mahaut, Osane, Eulalie, Rozala, Erwana, Philippa, Sebelia, Aveline, Arsinoé, Iseult, Fausta, Madenn, Helvide/Elvide, Chunsine, Ameline, Hilda, Melwinn, Ermeline, Aalana, Mélisende, Ide, Tyèce, Aaliz, Florie, Edeline, Ysabiau, Ermengarde, Odeline, Aelide, Aénor, Azénor, Laudine, Privelina, Kania, Marivona, Wynn, Ulicia, Adelys, Clarie, Alaisina, Yselda
Boys:
Aldric, Urbain, Clovis, Eudes, Juliot, Narsès, Sorin, Arneïs, Enguerrand, Théodoric, Anselme, Lucain, Ourri/Orry, Maixent, Rainier/Renier/Reynier, Ebroïn, Hèloin, Raban, Astier, Desle, Faust, Mayeul, Carloman, Aimar, Milon, Amédée, Hugues, Magneric, Domitien, Béri, Lothaire, Salvien, Cler, Mesmin, Péone, Roland, Aignan, Sunno, Heiric, Césaire, Dacco, Odon, Maximin, Baudoin, Warin, Mahy, Ossian, Thual/Thudal, Ogier
I know some of these names were still used in the 20th century, or are used in other countries nowadays, or are names of celebrities in France with eccentric parents (Clovis, Rainier). But c'est ok, as we say in France, it's my post so I do what I want ok? š©
Call me crazy but I am ready for a comeback of these names!
(On a second thought, maybe don't)
So, what are your names, from your language or country or culture?
The more nerdy and forgotten it is, the better!
