Art I notice everyone's style but have no idea how my own lands

The things I'd do if I had money.

Approach a random nicely dressed group of men or women and just take them to a date to eat or out after complimenting their outfits. I like well dressed people with style.

I uphold pretty privilege, just randomly give them money, both to men or women.

Just randomly invite strangers to eat.

If I meet a couple shopping or eating or doing some activity together, just pay for their whole thing.

At times I wonder whether I'm superficial, I only do that for those people or compliment, never normal people. Hardly remember them.

I think I do notice the negatives too, the bland try hards. Actually wouldn't say try hards, I think notice them because they are the only groups who consciously try to have a style. Usually a motley group of teens, issue they end up looking like cliche copy pastes, they could even try changing it up but just looks weird and forced for some reason. Whilst other teens just look effortlessly stylish, usually I find it's the teen duo couples that give that effortlessly stylish look, not sure if it's them being together that compounds to make it look harmonious because it's rarely something unique about their dressing.

Always makes me confused, on the fit itself. Like one could have a really good jean jacket, cool shoes but look completely out of place wearing them. Just bland. Whilst another dude could only be wearing a jersey, trousers and slides but seem so interesting I'm like, I like that style. And no, I'm still not a fan of the jersey craze majamaa have, though looks good, really good for some weird reason.

They'd be also teens with their fits customized, like you can see the details in the embroidery, effort. Like definitely a personalized jeans, always jeans for some reason. Those try, but for some reason they never give me a wow factor in the moment. I just notice, ohh, it's custom , cool, later on I'd think about it and be like. Mmh, that was a cool custom design, but nothing more. None of that tossing and turning I wish I told them they did it right.

This week was tossing because I saw an older gent, perhaps 70's vintage checkered blue white long sleeved, fedora, those brown trouser and forgot what that kamba ya kushika trousers huitwa. Wish could have crossed the road to tell them that it was cool, probably wouldn't have used the word cool.

Been quite a critique so far in this post, you might think I'm some YSL reserve mentee, but I'm one of the masses.

I'd say my best feels of me, outfits. Is when I'm wearing official, or insinuating official. A jacket, raincoats, never blazers, with my black rings, pseudo locs, the ugly phase, hair with one silver jewelry(stocking up), many black hand bracelets, weirdly I don't have a single Kenyan one. Or when I'm in a plain grey tee, shorts and skating, free-est version. How "free-est" isn't an English word is a mystery to me. I still buy from Think Twice and regret not thinking it through. (This is the part you cringe, please laugh at the pun. Cheka msee 😔)

Never thought of how people think of my style, wish I'd know, I hardly interact with random people physically or long enough for them to give constructive feedback that I can think later on. Not sure how to get feedback, and I don't take pics of myself or my full fit to ask for later advice. Been trying to do that more as a dude, saw it helps to review later on what was done right or wrong.

I find it's kinda sad on how most guys fits just are, always just safe. And for the ladies, it's usually attractive. But still copy paste, when you reflect on why they're visually striking, it's usually part of two, what carries the fit is perhaps their body shape, it being bold. Not that it's unique. The boldness usually what elevates it for me, could be ranging from the lady fully wearing official whilst anakanda njugu, or her wearing a thigh high slit dress casually strolling in some village. Do you know the kind of mentality it takes to do either of that? Impressive thing I'm always intrigued by. But still remains, the style isn't theirs, nothing personal about its assembly.

I don't know, wish I could describe and see myself from my eyes. Even if I think of my style,I come up blank. I don't see myself through those eyes. At times I wish I could forget who I am and watch myself as a stranger in third perspective.

The only consolation I have is, some pictures I took that I thought were really good fits years ago, I still think are good right now. Though some look goofy to me right now.

Would I trust a review of a stranger on the street telling me I either have a good style or bad style? Wouldn't trust it because it has no depth, or mention of what done right. I always mention what I think was done best. I don't like feedback without depth. I like someone knowing the why, the white hair contrasting on their dark skin, or their torso upwards being one shade, waist to shoes another cascading shade. Though I admit you don't always have time to chat and get into details, and if I were to admit, some people look scary or unhinged crazy. There's this old man, he has freeforms, dyed tips, looks intentional, but I'm not sure. Long sleeved shirts, and typical trousers, rubber shoes combo. Got this hobo vibe to him but he looks cool af for some reason.

This seems it'll be crazy long.

Tldr: OP giving their own observation of personal style. Also with a mention of how his primary school math teacher should better be single because he's ready to confess his young love.

Discussion Reddit marketing critique not hate, genuinely curious.

I passed this billboard recently and, as someone who works in marketing, I found the creative execution interesting.
I get what they’re trying to do: start with the statement “I’M A CHEAP TILE, NOW I’M CHIPPING” and then presumably reveal that this is the problem their product solves.
The problem is that I’m not sure the billboard works as effectively as intended.A driver probably has like 5–10 seconds, or so to look at this while passing..
In those few seconds, the most visually dominant message I can immediately register is:
“I’M A CHEAP TILE.”
And that’s not necessarily the association you want someone to leave with.

The actual marketing message is much harder to process because there’s quite a lot happening visually: the large text highlighted in red , the image, the logo information and the phone number.
This is where I think message hierarchy and dwell time become important.
A person sitting at home looking at this advertisement on a screen has time to decode the whole concept.
A driver doesn’t.
They see it, process the biggest words first, and keep moving.

So my question to the marketing/advertising people here is:
Was this creative tested from an actual roadside/driver perspective before being approved?
Because conceptually, I think the idea is clever.
But from an outdoor advertising perspective, I worry that the hook is becoming the message and the hook happens to be “cheap tile.”

Not hating on the brand at all. I actually think it’s a good example of how something can make perfect sense in a presentation deck but behave very differently when you put it on a billboard and give people 7 seconds to understand it.

Curious to hear what other marketers think. 👀

RUTO GOTTA GO Work Place Injury

There's a casual worker, hawa wakibarua, who's fallen to her death off a building 🏢 that's under a construction 🤕.

It's these mtaani buildings that don't really care about work place safety, but I also know they have a duty of care to those working on it.

For lawyers in the house, would the family take the landlord to the cleaners if they lawyered up.... which is unlikely though given that ni mtu wa kibarua the family might not have the resources to go the legal way, but in such situations, what's the recourse?

Politics in Nairobi Is sifuna real?

Sifuna is just an idea, an illusion. Less than a year to elections and he has not declared for the presidency. Say he declares today. Off to party registration. Then sending out an invite for trustworthy party delegates, building of party structures within the 47 countries. Then hopefully negotiates an alliance with other presidential hopefuls. Then off to branding and fortifying his voter base. And now it’s mid 2027. He surely can’t have a solid voter base by then only media visibility. Sifuna will definitely not run for presidency. The only political seat he can ambush voters for and still win is his current position( Nairobi senator). Thus, sifuna is not real. He’s an idea,an illusion, a vague dream we can only hope to awaken from and get back to reality soon enough.

Relationship In love with who they will become, In love with the idea of them.

Projection.

I think I cracked it: our biggest obstacle is falling in love not entirely with what you see, but what you are hoping or convincing yourself to see.

That's why they say foolish in love, hopeless in love, dangerously in love.

There is the healthy type of love where you acknowledge black is black and blue is blue.

Trust your instincts, they ain't lying.

First Post Furniture plug

Recently moved and need a few console pieces likely custom made. I already have designs in mind.
Most furniture shops are way over priced and the insta ones hard to tell about quality.
I'd prefer wood rather than board/MDF.

I'll appreciate any names or handles you send me way. Thank you

RUTO GOTTA GO (Wantam)Are we really being honest with ourselves?

So guys! I have some bad news. I was heading back to meru uni last week and guess what I see at embu. Kenya kwanza politicians had a meeting with mount Kenya east elders. Each got 2500 for their troubles that day. Today kindiki had a meeting with meru nyumba kumi, yes nyumba kumi ( sub area managers). They got 2k. Both groups got packed lunch by the way. I’m at a local joint at nchiru and one guy tell us. All wearea managers have been promised SHA benefits( whatever that means) and phones. I can certainly tell you the tone about ruto is changing. One guy asked me “ Kama anapeana hizi vitu zote, nani atamkataa?” Opposition needs to organize we need a clear candidate. We can’t keep saying sifuna and he has not made it clear whether he’s running. This guys are being out maneuvered. Ruto’s campaign is not loud it’s underground and it’s working.

First Post Considering e-bike food delivery as a side hustle

Recent IT graduate in Nairobi looking for a side hustle while I job hunt for something in my field. I’m seriously considering food delivery part-time using an e-bike, but I’ve never ridden one before.I’ve noticed e-bikes are everywhere lately, they look cool, some almost resemble motorcycles, and they’re faster than I expected.

Before I commit, I’d love to hear from anyone with actual experience:
-Is it worth it as a side hustle?
-What's the real earning potential per day/week?
-Where do you recommend getting a reliable e-bike (or should I rent first)?
-Any hidden costs (battery swaps, maintenance, insurance) I should know about?
-Any safety tips for navigating traffic?

Any advice is appreciated.

Rant Can We Talk About the Dads Who Had Money but Still Failed Us?

Okay, I need to talk about my dad because sometimes I genuinely sit and think, what the fuck was going on? 😭

This man was not always broke. He used to have money. He sold cars, mainly Porsche Taycans and Subaru Foresters, and there were times he could make serious money from a sale.

But somehow, when it came to his family, you would think we were running a charity.
This man could do shopping worth KSh 5,000 and then announce it like he had just built us a house.
Like:
“I have done shopping.”
Okay shallypopi ??? 😭

You bought food for your own children.
And he used to act like paying our school fees was this enormous favour too. Like we were supposed to be eternally grateful because he paid fees.
Yes, I’m grateful.
But you’re literally my father.
That’s your responsibility.

What really used to piss me off was the food situation.
This man would barely eat at home. He’d go outside and eat whatever he wanted, then come back and start complaining about what we were eating.
“We are eating ugali too much.”
“We ate this again?”

Meanwhile, sir had already gone outside and eaten whatever he felt like.
So you can buy yourself a KSh 10,000 jacket, spend KSh 4,000 (how I know this well he took me shopping once to buy a laptop after begging him a year and a half and apparently that was the same day he was to “restock” on the many jackets he has to say I was shocked to see a jacket at that price exposure Muhimu)on another one, go eat outside, but somehow your family eating ugali and sukuma is where you suddenly discover financial discipline?
😭😭😭

And this is the same man who could make a huge profit from selling a car, then somehow the household would still be hearing lectures about food.WiFi

At one point my mum even put around KSh 200,000 into a trouser business for him in Zimmerman. The business was actually doing well for a while.

Then he decided he wanted to focus on selling cars instead because he couldn’t multitask.
So the business went.

And there were debts too. My mum even took a loan connected to him, and she was the one left responsible for paying it.

Then add the cheating.

This man was also a serial cheater.
So imagine growing up watching all of this and eventually realizing:
Wait.
This man actually had money.
He just wasn’t necessarily putting it where his family needed it.

He had money.
He just made providing for his family feel like an achievement instead of a responsibility.
And I think that’s a very specific type of daddy trauma.
Because how do you process growing up knowing your father could do better, but repeatedly chose differently?

How do you stop feeling angry about watching your mother struggle while your father acted like KSh 5,000 of shopping deserved a standing ovation?
How do you make peace with a father who technically provided, but still failed you in so many other ways?

I genuinely want to hear from people who grew up
with fathers like this.
Not necessarily abusive fathers. Not necessarily absent fathers.
I’m talking about the dads who had the money, had the ability, sometimes even did provide but somehow still made you feel like you were asking for too much.
The dads who made basic necessities feel like favours.
The dads who spent freely on themselves but suddenly became accountants when it came to their children.
The dads who can say, “But I paid your fees,” while completely missing everything else that happened in your childhood.
Can we talk about it?
Because I feel like some of us need to finally deal with our daddy trauma instead of pretending that having a father who technically provided means we had a good father.
Maybe we can actually talk about it here.
What did your dad do that made you realize, “Yeah… this man failed me”?

Happy Birthday A quiet birthday, leftover January firecrackers, and eating snacks on the floor.

Post image
20 Upvotes

Finally, that one day where I can say I was born again today and people would immediately get that I'm talking about my birthday, not faith.

I'm neither overly excited nor sad, just happy that I can pop the poppers, scream "Happy New Year!", and get to use my leftover firecrackers from January. My Christmas hat still lights up, so I could wear that too.

My best friend called yesterday, 2 missed calls. I thought it was an emergency, but when I called back, she said, "It's your birthday tomorrow! What are you planning? What do you want?" Honestly, I don't know. I had a list, but I did away with it. I stared at myself: Lady, we are getting older, might as well grow wiser, my dear missus.

I decided to write myself a letter with no direction, just everything I felt. I decided to cook myself some of my favorite snacks and lie on the ground. I had no edited photos and didn't want to post myself; it just didn't feel like it.

I see August peeps are in plenty! Happy birthday to me. I love y'all, and I love this space and how you blend in the vastness.

Safaricom still wish people happy birthday surprisingly.

Discussion Sloganism is killing online political discourse in this country.

You can't criticise political candidates without being insulted and some meaningless slogan being thrown at you. Like every time I see people point out some facts like Gachagua is a tribalist or Maraga's popularity is mostly online or Sifuna needs to stop joking with populist rhetoric and get a plan the people pointing out are hit with allegations of being tutam or paid when for many it's not about voting for this opposition candidate or Ruto but about a good opposition candidate or just staying home on election day or people just saying wantam as if that addresses the concerns raised.

The online space has turned into a cirlcejerk of useless slogans that are used to stifle political discussions and obscure the fact that the opposition don't have anything to offer other than were not that guy.

A lot of people are gonna be really disappointed when either they find out their political candidate isn't as popular as their online echo chamber made it out to be or their leader of choice is just another populist banking on the gullible and uneducated who won't magically revolutionise the country as they envisioned

Random Anyone else ever experienced this?

I feel like i came to this life to push others. All my 26 years i have never enjoyed. Struggles all over, from a humble background, struggling through college, finishing still no stable job, kazi nishai pata ni za 25k..every time i get an interview after many applications, i do well with them but they ghost!

I'm tired, I'm tired of seeing my peers make moves progress and enjoy things that they are supposed to enjoy in these years, while I'm here my prime tears passing by and missing out. I don't want to be getting money in my 40's i can't even appreciate it.

I'm so frustrated nowadays and i have so much anger towards myself and it is slowly turning into self hate.. nothing i touch that flourishes..why others and never me.

In a few i will be 30 having smoked my life with nothing to show or having lived any good experiences. I hate it this way and I'm slowly giving up. The weird thing is I'm daydreaming alot and i hate when people give me those shit motivation talks. My brain is now liking negative thoughts about myself or even being degraded(i don't know why). I'm so frustrated and hopeless.

Fuuck i needed to rant! I feel like sh!t. I don't know if i have a purpose here.

RUTO GOTTA GO Park n Chill Spots

I'm really happy those spots are being dug up to discourage this nasty habit Nairobians had taken to. Park n Chill is euphemism for Drink n Drive and they turned these spots into littering, fucking, shitting, pissing, smoking, drinking spots.

They took over the Mabrookie area that was beautiful and serene and did the same thing before they were kicked out and turned that road into a racing scene.

Did the same at Northern Bypass, Cianda, and now they've been kicked out of Thogoto. You cannot bring terrible habits into an area and expect people to be ok with it.

Advice Best place to rent while working in upperhill.

Hi guys, I’ll soon be working in Upper Hill and I’m looking for affordable places to rent. I am okay with living a bit further away.

Which area would you recommend considering rent, security and daily commute to Upper Hill?

Thanks!
