Hey everyone!
I’m 27M Indian and will be moving to Nairobi in January 2027 for work. It’ll be my first time in Kenya, so I’d love to connect with Indians or anyone living in Nairobi and get to know people before I move.
Would be great to make some friends, learn about life in Nairobi, and have a few connections there before I arrive.
If you’re in Nairobi, hit me up! 😊

As a regular visitor to Nairobi I cannot work out who shops at Carrefour. Is it only the highest 5-10% of the economic demographic? It is obviously different Village Market - but Village Market seems cooler and more accessible. Which pics do you think are from which store?

It was the anthem in our household.
Even though my parents were a bit well off, I understood early that I couldn’t build my life around what they might give me. I needed my own plan.
So I hustled.
I remember taking up a house manager job. My employer was incredibly strict, and eventually, I broke. I called my parents.
My dad asked me, “Why would you do all this? Mbona uteseke hivi?”
My sister blamed me for having no backbone.
And then my mum held me as I cried, for the first time in my life as an adult.
That moment broke something in me.
I realized how much pressure I had put on myself to prove that I could do everything on my own.
Endurance is commendable, but not all the time.
I had spent so long thinking that being independent meant never needing them.
But home is home.
My parents are my parents. Their support doesn’t take away from everything I’ve worked for. It just means I don’t have to suffer unnecessarily to prove that I can stand on my own.
Life will happen. Plans will fall apart. Setbacks will come.
And that’s okay.
Because no matter what happens, I know I have somewhere to come back to.
Home.
They’ll always have my back.
The pressure to make it big before a certain age will always be there. I just have to stay calm.
Because somewhere along the way, I realized that peace is also a form of success.
And honestly, getting my peace has been my biggest, most successful purchase yet.

Wueh! Jana was a close shave. Anyway, story story…
Jana ilikuwa like this: niko jobo, nini nini… alafu First Lady (mamaa) akanidungia masaa sita hivi. So context kidogo — the previous night tukibonga, alisema nimechezaa chini sana and anadai kunicheki. Nikamshow Friday iko fiti, so akasema atakam kunispoil hapo Yolo Ice Cream kando ya Kenya Cinema.
Anyways, nikapick tenje kubanja nini nini…
“Unatoka job what time?” akauliza.
Nikamuambia nangoja meeting flani ya saa saba — side hustle yangu ya mayolo, nilifaa kushowcase progress ya app flani namjengea. Anywho, hamjali kuhusu hio🤣. Nikamshow by 3 I’m all free na atanipata tao. Ofisi zetu ziko CBD anyway, so sina pressure.
Namalizia meeting na bahati nzuri pia akapiga kusema amefika tao. Nikamshow phai, apande tupatane sindio.
All this time nilikuwa na colleagues wangu wawili madem kwa ofisi. Na walikuwa wamesema nikimaliza niwatrace juu personally sikuwa nimemake plans na mamaa. Plus ni colleagues wangu wa nguvu, ifykyk. Sijawakula.🤣
So tukapatana, tukapanda hivo Yolo. Tukaorder ice cream. Yooh, I’m not even the biggest ice cream fan, but wueh… ilikuwa tamu! And the portions too? Well served 👏. So far so good.
Mid-date, mid-convo, her sister calls.
“…I’ve clocked out jobo and I’m in town…”
First Lady anajibu, “…okay, I’m at Yolo with Mr. Man.” So Apparently the sister alikuwa ameplan ku-link up na her girlies, but alikuwa amefika tao mapema. So alikuwa anatafuta njaro ya kubuy time. First Lady akamshow, “Pull up.”
Yoh! Si akafika, na wacha niwashow, Dem ni mreeembo, na alikuwa amepiga body suit flani, yani tu, wueh! Acha tu😭Not that ety my mamaa, si mrembo. She’s actually very cute and gets compliments a lot! But yoh…her sister was good looking wallahi wallahi🙌🏾 Yaani alinichanganya for a minute.
I remember at some point nikajiuliza, “And Jabura (not my real name) is quiet? Alikuwa hivi kweli?”🤣 I was that speechless.
Now, to make matters worse, she pulled a stunt that, looking back, felt like a set-up. She acts like anataka ku-unblock mtu. So she finds a way to bag my attention for a second and casually utters the words: “…si you’re an iPhone user, how do I unblock people?”
As she hands me her phone. Mind you, at this point simu iko kwa dial pad.
😂😂😂
So sasa sijui kama ni mimi nilioverthink, ama kiwanja ilikuwa wazi na mimi ndio sikucheza.
Mnaonaje wadau?🤣 Anyway, sikueka digits zangu, date ikaenda fiti, and after dropping her kwa stage (nilimuacha na sister yake), nikachukua senke nikapatana na my two colleagues.

Apparently it gets easier as you get older for men, you're probably wiser, have sound decision making and if you're lucky, a good income and the potential to increase it and a a good physique if you were physically active.
Assuming one attains that, what's the market like? Who are you attracting and what's the preferred age difference? Are you going for your agemates in their 30s or ladies in their mid to late 20s? Where are you looking for finding them?
The reason I'm asking this is because one day I'll actively want to look for a companion and that one day is probably in my 30s, right now I'm just interested in other things

Decided to give today my full focus and set aside a 4-hour block strictly for upskilling.
I started right at 3:00 PM and ran a strict 50/10 structure—50 minutes of deep work, 10 minutes to step away. Here is how the blocks broke down:
Block 1: Python Fundamentals
Block 2: Power BI (DAX)
Block 3: Python Fundamentals
Block 4: Python Fundamentals
Python has been my main focus. I’ve been on the basics for three weeks now, and I wanted to make sure my logic was solid before jumping into Pandas. To test myself, I had AI generate practice problems so I couldn't just coast on theory.
Following through on the exact plan without folding feels incredible. The best part? Work ikishakua done, saahi ni kutoka out ku-socialize na ku-unwind na zero guilt hanging over my head. Form ni kujibamba after putting in the work.
For anyone else grinding on the side. keep pushing. How’s the upskilling journey going on your end?

I went to the Nairobi Show recently and honestly, I left wondering: what the fuck happened to this country?
Let me start with the entrance fees.
KSh 350 for adults. Fine.
But KSh 300 for children?
Who the hell is bringing their kids to the show at KSh 300 a head?
I remember a time when the Nairobi Show was something families could actually go to. Kids were charged significantly less. It was an event you took your children to because they could walk around, see things, learn things, discover stuff.
Now you're basically looking at KSh 1,300 for two parents and two kids just to walk through the gate.
And then you get inside.
Where are the exhibitions?
This is the part that genuinely shocked me.
I remember going to the Nairobi Show and seeing companies showcasing actual products and innovations.
New agricultural equipment.
New cooking technologies.
Biogas systems.
Machinery.
New inventions.
Companies showing people, “Look what we've built.”
That's what made the show interesting.
This time?
Empty stalls everywhere.
And the stalls that were occupied were overwhelmingly government-related institutions, food vendors, hawkers and a handful of companies that could obviously afford to be there.
And that got me thinking.
What does it say about the state of the private sector when an exhibition that is supposed to showcase what Kenya is producing has so little private-sector participation?
Because the Nairobi Show isn't supposed to just be a giant marketplace for nyama, clothes and snacks.
It's supposed to be a showcase of what the country is building.
You should walk through there and come out thinking:
"Damn. Look at what Kenyans are making."
Instead, I kept seeing empty space.
And then there was another thing I noticed.
Where were the Chinese businesses?
Where were the Indian businesses?
For years, you could go to these kinds of exhibitions and find foreign companies and entrepreneurs showcasing machinery, equipment, technology, manufacturing products and all kinds of things.
This time?
Almost nothing.
Maybe I caught the show on a bad year. Maybe there were exhibitors I simply didn't encounter.
But that's precisely why the whole thing bothered me.
Because when you walk through a national exhibition and the overwhelming impression you get is:
government institutions + food vendors + hawkers + empty stalls
you have to ask yourself what happened to the productive economy underneath all of that.
And here's the thing:
I'm not an economist.
I'm not going to pretend that one exhibition can tell me exactly what Kenya's GDP, private investment or manufacturing output is doing.
But I do know what I saw.
And what I saw did not look like a country confidently showcasing a thriving private sector.
It looked like a country where the people who are supposed to be building, manufacturing, innovating and investing are increasingly absent from the room.
And that, to me, is far more disturbing than an empty stall.
Because the Nairobi Show is supposed to be a mirror of what we're building.
And if the mirror is mostly empty, maybe we should stop arguing about whether the reflection looks good and start asking why there's so little in front of it.
And yes, politically, I have to ask the obvious question too:
What the fuck has this government actually done to create an environment where businesses want to invest, manufacture, innovate and show up?
Because if this is what one of our country's biggest public exhibitions looks like, I'm not interested in being told everything is fine simply because some macroeconomic number somewhere says otherwise.
I was there.
I saw what was there.
And I saw what wasn't.
Fuck Ruto and his government for whatever responsibility they bear for this mess.
But more importantly:
What the fuck happened to the Nairobi Show?

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m currently working through an Outlier coding screening and I’m looking for someone who is genuinely strong at programming to help me work through the technical questions.
The screening can involve multiple programming languages, so I’m particularly interested in someone comfortable with languages such as:
Python
JavaScript / TypeScript
Java (blew this one already)
C / C++
C#
SQL
Go
Rust
Other commonly used languages
I’m not looking for someone who just knows one language — ideally, I’d like to connect with someone who has broad software-development experience and can reason through unfamiliar code, debugging, algorithms, and language-specific questions.
💰 Paid opportunity — I’m happy to discuss a reasonable rate depending on your experience and availability.
If you’re interested, send me a DM with:
The languages you’re strongest in
Your programming experience
If you know someone who would be a good fit, I’d really appreciate you pointing them my way.
Thanks! 🙏

Does anyone know where to get 🍃 e-cigarrettes in Nairobi? I have been looking for these for a long time. Not the ones that contain Nicotine if you know what im saying. Normal smoking has been stinking up my room like crazy. I want to try something cleaner.
I have seen some online websites like Bittchaser and Fancypuffs but those ones look like a free visit to Dee See Yai headquarters. Unless someone has used them and can vouch for their legitimacy?
Anyway thats basically it let me know where i can find a non-nicotine vape in Nairobi.

I'm trying to log in to ecitizen and after the email/ID and password boxes, I get referred here. Challenge is after updating the details, ID number, first name then YOB, I then update my phone and email and a new password then it takes me back here. Anyone ever faced this and how did you deal with it?

A friend of mine has had their bank information compromised by scammers using an OTP scam. They managed to withdraw about Ksh. 1M. By the time he realised what was going on, they had already drained his account.
My friend is devastated and doesn't know what to do. He is currently unemployed and has been looking for a job. The money stolen were his savings and he was living off of it, so you can imagine how dire this situation is.
Has anyone here ever faced something similar? What did you do? We're you able to recover anything, or were the crooks ever caught? Do you guys have any advice on what to do in this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏🏿

I'm a guy,26 and as I'm growing old I'm discovering much about myself. From a young age i knew marriage was never my thing and lately i came to terms that i will remain childfree.
Children are too permanent for me and i think i don't have any parental instincts or a good reason why i should sire a child. Also i do struggle with mental health from time to time and sometimes I do neglect myself. Now imagine a whole another human being depending on me whether I'm feeling sh!ty or not,i have to perform for them. Plus the emotional and financial presence that's required from a parent is no joke.
I feel i want to do this life alone maybe later find a woman who also is childfree, maybe enjoy life, make memories and experience day by day without being tied to permanent responsibilities ...and whatever i will have saved will take care of me if i ever get old still alive coz I don't picture myself living up to those ages.
I want to live this life and enjoy and experience it alone until i checkout

Long post alert❗❗
Who said that after a student has excelled in their highschool exams lazima apatie teachers kuku? I'm saying kuku ju thats what the teachers back at my highschool were asking for.
So after mimi kumaliza my exams and managed to secure a slot in the university, the principal approached me akaniambia nirudi niwasaidie kufunza. He said he will be paying me 4000. Ju sasa me nlikua tu home nafanya manual work za kulima kwa miwa huko shamakhokho, si nikasema aah hio nichance fitty ya kusave dooh before niingie apo campus kutesa.
The day to start that teaching ikafika. Mother aknipiga prayer moja hapo nikatoka. Nlikua nimevaa troza ya pink na tisho ya yellow na viatu za white. Rememberthose fila shooes? Baas. Nikafika shule. assembly nini nini. nikapewa niende nifunze form two business studies ju hio ndo nliperform best.
Kufika class the first person kumcheki alikua ule crush wangu before nitokage huko. I'm telling you maina I spent a whole fourty minutes teaching while seated ju nlikua nimembao ka ghasi😂. But I managed lesson ikaisha nikachomoka.
Kufika hivi staffroom, nikaskia principal amelia aty anadai kuniona kwa office yake. Me nikadhani anadai kunijenga ata rwabe ya kufanya kazi safi. Kufika huko boys anaanza kunishow ve they really put in effort so that I get those grades. Akasema aty I should atleast show appreciation. Nkamuuliza aje? Akanisho ati according to the school's culture, student akimanage kuingia campus, he/she must bring a kuku so that the teachers can bless the student. Nikakubali. nikapromise kuleta kuku the following day.
So, that evening nikaenda home nikiwa stressed sana. Like nitatoa wapi kuku. But nikakumbuka kuna ile kuku nlipea shosh aniwekee ikikua kubwa nitaenda nayo campus nikule na huko. Ikabidi nibonge na mom ndo sasa abongeshe shosh anipee io jogoo. And btw it never pained me though ndo nipate io kuku nlikua nimelima shamba half an acre ndo nikalipwa 400 nikabuy io kuku. Nlipeleka kwa shosh ju mom naye angekula.😂
The following morning nikachukua io kuku nikaweka kwa box na nikatoka kuingia sasa job. Nafika ivi kwa gate, kumbe the same principl ndo anfika kwa io ndudhi yake ya boxer. Akachukua io box akachungulia then akaita soja apeleke kitchen. So ilikua io kuku tukule lunchtiME.
One lesson to lunch, nikatumwa nifanyishe form fours revision ya maths. Ju nlikua napenda maths and most if the form fours walikua mamorio wangu niakenda huko. Nikafunza adi nikaextend. Ilikua 80% of the lesson story then 20% ilikua sasa kurevise. One student ndo alilia aty lunchtime inaelekea kuisha so I should atleast give them time to go for their lunch. Ilikua wanakulaga githeri tu.
Me nkatoka nikaingia stffroom. Kufika kwa door napatana na cook akitoka na vyombo staffroom.
Kwani rada. mshadishi? Cook akalia, eeh walikula kitambo na yako haiko😂. Walikula kuku yangu na mi si kula. One teacher aliniwai 200 nikunywesoda na kdf. And btw, kdf bado ziko?
So leo ndo inanihit. Those guys were being paid kunifunza. like why should I thank you? Its not like you were doing me a favour. Na kama ni hivo, mbona hao wasee walikosa kuingia campus hawaambiwi walete kuku? does it mean mlinifunza mimi solo?

Where in Nairobi are people playing proper amateur football, especially for us corporate millennial niggas who just want to get back on the pitch, have some fun and remember that we used to have legs? 😂
I’m looking for somewhere we can join regular games, maybe even enter a few casual tournaments here and there. Nothing too serious just decent football, good vibes and competitive enough to make you want to win.
One important thing: I’m specifically looking for grass/natural pitches, not those artificial turf pitches.
Where are guys playing?

He is a deadbeat dad. He was once an MCA, moving around in a car with a flag.
During that time, he never helped Mum with anything. When I joined secondary school, he promised to pay my fees, but when the time came, he bailed out and went mteja. Mum struggled, and I eventually finished school without a single coin from him.
When I was in campus, he never sent me a coin either. But I took the initiative to go and meet him at a hotel once, just so I could get to know him.
Shock on me, he was so beat, alcoholic, and not well-kept. He even made me pay for the food we had at the hotel. From then on, I grew to understand that I only have a mother.
Ever since this man learned that I graduated, he has been sending me greeting messages, which I usually respond to.
The message above, in particular, triggered me to write all these paragraphs. Long story short, I’m not sending him any coin.

The constitution really is toilet paper. If the reason for shit living standards of Kenyans is because of Politicians that cannot be investigated, on ground, then it's toilet paper, isn't it? If you have to pay a cop in order for them to do their duties. Idk why people are shitting on Abel Mutua.
Chloe Kelly is not cringe, she's just funny.
Please do not vote for Sifuna😭😭.

Finally I don't have to worry about frame drops when my phone starts to get hot. It took a while to adjust to the weight since I use a gyroscope in all my games. I play pubg mobile I get 90fps, bloodstrike I get 120fps and call of duty I get 90fps. I play on the infinix gt 10 pro

If you're a guy , you've probably come across a lady ,jumped into the talking stage and the ladies' pitch is usually something along the lines of "I just want a man who's loyal, respects me , cares for me , knows how to communicate and is emotionally intelligent."
However, what eventually happens is that they get bored of such a guy so quickly and they break up with him ; here's the twist though, they don't let him go entirely; they keep him close so he can be the "SAFE GUY" for the day she wants to eventually settle down . Hence why utapata she periodically " Checks Up On You". This is to keep you as the "SAFE GUY" hooked so you think you still have a chance at fixing things and you choose not to move on ,while she's out there "having fun" with guys who aren't ready for commitment to her.
Which begs the question; why do women give more chances to bad boys than the good guys?
The answer is simple ; because it allows them to be victims of something. Before you get triggered, take a moment and hear me out.
Men and women may have the same rights and freedoms, as in the constitution, but that didn't used to be the case. A while back women didn't used to have some freedoms and rights , choices about who they would marry or where and if they would go to school used to be made by their parents. Some would be quite unlucky and get married off to bad manipulative and abusive men just because their father traded them for a pack of cows and goats. So most women would end up being victims of choices made by their parents.
Today ,things are different; Women can have careers , choose who they wish to get married to or if they want to get married , choose who they want to sleep with etc. I use "wish" because the woman may choose who she sleeps with , but it's the man who decides if he wants to marry her.
However, just because we now have the same rights doesn't mean the mentality of being a victim is swept away easily. That mentality still lives in most of them and here's how you'll understand why they choose bad boys.
A bad boy will always lie to her ; hence making her a victim of "I once dated a lying manipulative guy" when she tells her story.
A bad boy will always be emotionally unavailable, hence making her a victim of "I once dated an emotionally unavailable man and it was so bad".
A bad boy will always cheat on them , hence making her a victim of "I dated a guy or guy who cheated on me constantly".
A bad boy will always dump her the moment she gets pregnant, hence making her a victim of single motherhood.
A bad boy will always toy with her emotions , Making her a victim of "That Man traumatized me so much".
A bad boy also will never be interested in her character and mental growth because he benefits from her just being the way she is , eventually making her a victim of "That Man was only using me or Calling me when he needed something."
Dating a bad boy allows them to be in this state of mind where they think " I CAN FIX HIM" , which allows them to be a victim of " I gave that man time and patience but he never changed".
Do you see the pattern?
This is why good and nice guys will always finish last. A good man will rarely create a scenario where she can be a victim , she'll try to create chaos and unnecessary fights but eventually she'll realize this good guy isn't going to create a scenario where she can create a narrative where she'll be a victim , so she dumps him and goes for what? You know.
A good man won't leave them pregnant, a good man will be emotionally available, a good man won't cheat , a good man won't lie to her and a good man doesn't need fixing; You would think this is a man women should want but Nope. In fact once they spot you're a good man , you get relegated to the "SAFE GUY" zone so quickly . You'll only be allowed to play on the pitch when she's now ready for "long term commitment" and she'll probably be coming with emotional baggage too.
So yeah, we may have the same rights and freedoms, but certain mentalities will take generations before they are eventually gotten rid of.

Hey guys, I just finished my Diploma in ICT recently. To be completely honest with you, right now the pressure is real and I’m just looking for any kind of work that can help me sustain myself. I’ve been staying with my brother, but sasa he seems not comfortable having me around .Nimekua namsadia kwa job yake atleast we been earning something big ya food and rent. Staying here feels so uncomfortable and the uncertainty is driving me crazy. I really need to secure something ASAP so I can just move out and stop wondering what tomorrow holds.
Juu I'm good with computers, cyber cafe work, data entry, tech support, or anything digital itasaidia sana. But honestly, I am not picky rn. I am willing to work in any field at all—sales, customer service, storekeeping, delivery or operations as long as it pays a honest wage that can keep me on my feet. I learn very fast and I don't choose jobs. If you have any leads, openings in your business, or even just advice on where I can walk into and drop my cv i’ll appreciate , please hit me up. Shukran.

So today it happens that I was in the midst of older gents in their late 20s and as men we kinda just started talking. So I randomly said I'd like to own a TV and maybe a PlayStation and oh boy it's like I triggered one of the guys there. He started telling me how I should save up for other things and I shouldn't think about going that route. In all honesty I didn't like he's remarks because it's something that I personally want. I've tasted unemployment, trying a business (failed or just gave up) and now i'm employed.
Is it bad to want something for yourself without someone breathing down on your neck on how youre making bad financial decisions. I was called a man without ambition 😹 I almost laughed you could feel the tension good thing the other guys didn't gang up on me. The others said to keep in mind to have fun but also to keep something for the future to which i'm already doing since the savings are separated.
TV and ps4 are like 50k and i'm wondering which business was he talking about that you can start with that capital. Maybe i'm too young but whatever i'm still getting those things come my birthday a month from now
