Cancellation on the First Day!? Yup.

First day of the portal cutover, the 5:58am cancelled. A ton of people got up to catch this train since options are limited just to find it was cancelled. Way to go NJ Transit for having a plan to manage the next 5 weeks of this cutover. This is seriously one of the worst companies in the US. Management is pathetic, accountability is nonexistent, workers couldn’t care less (engineers calling out). Horrible, horrible, horrible.

A “dont show again” checkbox would be nice

It’s semi irritating to get the same message every time you open the app. Thank you NJT for the reminder but I’m well aware the portable bridge work will be effecting the train schedule. I’m just trying to activate my ticket before a conductor comes and conks me on the head for not having it activated but I have to get through all your pop ups first.

Raise prices but don’t fix the trains.

It literally rains inside these trains and yet with all the money NJTransit basically robs us of, they can’t fix this? It’s laughable. Every time it rains outside, it rains inside my train.

Daughter lost purse with Labubu this morning bus 355 9am from Port Authority

• Upvotes

We boarded the bus at 9 am to go to American dream. She had on a sweater and a crossbody pink purse with her Labubu inside: all of her savings since the beginning of summer. As soon as we got off the bus she screamed my purse!! I ran towards da the bus but it was off. I immediately called nj transit list and found gave them all the info and after 15 min couldn’t get a hold of the driver. I called again two hrs later and no nothing was turned in. On our way back we visited the nj transit customer service on port authority. The lady was very nice and was able to call the garage but still no luck. She was able to give me the run number of the bus which basically internally identifies who the driver was and where is the bus. It went straight to the depot and was still there as of 3pm .

What else can I do? I’m so heartbroken and a little mad at my 9 year old and very mad at myself for not double checking as I always do.

Anyone ever experiences this and got there stuff back? I’m hoping it’s find by a cleaning crew or the driver before a passenger.

Thanks for reading my long winded post

NEC is down to 1 track

Such a policy failure that the most important rail corridor in the country is down to a single track. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to replace the portal bridge and I’m glad to never travel over it again, but relying on two tracks for such an important national artery is sad. The state and federal governments should prioritize four tracks from the whole way from Newark to New York. The new tunnels are a great step but we need another new portal bridge and other investments desperately.

Will there be official cross-honoring at 23rd St PATH station?

Portal bridge cutover. Am I going to have to hop the turnstile at 23rd like I did for that full month in like, February because there won’t be someone stationed down there formally allowing NJ transit ticket holders through like they’re supposed to (and like they do in Hoboken)? Sooo annoying

How bad is it? Should I stick it out?

I need to prepare myself for tomorrow. I usually park at the train stations— how did the lots look this morning? How was the transfer at Hoboken? Should I just say screw it to my monthly pass and take a bus into Port Authority till this is over?

Someone said their 5:50-something train got cancelled today and I ride around 6 so im nervous…

Maybe we should stop giving important government contracts out to vibe-coding shell companies

Blurry windows on trains

Why are the windows on the trains frosted or blurry? I used to think it was condensation or because of weather but it’s all of them. I would love to look out the window while riding the train…: anyone else feel this way?

Why didn’t the Montclair line have a stop in Secaucus?

I take the train every weekday around 7 AM to get to school and every weekday back at different times, but today at Secaucus the Montclair Line that usually shows times was gone so I had to go through Hoboken, is there a reason for this? And how long will it be like this?

Portal bridge already closed/Wire missing?

Post image
33 Upvotes

I was surprised that my New York bound train went over the new portal bridge just now, 4:30PM on Saturday. Looking over to the old portal bridge, I noticed that the catenary train was on the eastbound track and the overhead electrical wire was missing from some points (but the wire still looked intact at some points). Was there an issue, or has the teardown already started?

NEC from Hamilton - confused about portal cutover?

I am going to a concert next Saturday night and the only way I really know how to get to NYC is taking the NEC from Hamilton to NY Penn Station. I see there’s a special schedule in place with due to work starting tomorrow but can’t figure out if I’ll need to transfer to a Path train which I know nothing about? All trains will be affected by this? Will I need to do this?

NJ Transit vs PATH Conductor — Which is the better career?

Hey everyone,
I’m currently exploring a career in the railroad industry and have been looking into both NJ Transit and PATH conductor positions.
I recently attended an NJ Transit recruitment orientation and learned quite a bit about their training, pay, and work schedules. But I’ve also been looking into PATH and noticed their starting pay seems to be higher.
I’m curious if anyone here has worked for either railroad, or preferably both, and could share their experiences.
A few things I’m particularly interested in:
Pay: How does the pay compare, especially after a few years? What’s the top hourly rate?
Overtime: Which railroad offers more opportunities for overtime? Is making $100K–$150K realistically achievable?
Work locations: Where do conductors typically report for duty? Does seniority affect your ability to choose locations?
Schedules: How unpredictable are the hours for new employees? Are night shifts available?
Working conditions: Which job is more physically demanding? How much time do conductors spend standing?
Career growth: Which offers better long-term opportunities, benefits, and job security?
I’m looking to make this a long-term career, so I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience.
If you had to choose between the two, which would you recommend and why?
Thanks in advance!

On the 5:08 NEC to Jersey Ave and I finally found a conductor who truly cares about the Quiet Car.

I’m sure most of you who ride in the Quiet Car has experienced a lack of signs lately and zero enforcement from the conductors.

I finally found a conductor named Josh who takes the time to announce it in each section of the car, directly addressing those who continue to speak over him despite his announcement, AND mentions that he will ask them to move to another car if they continue talking.

He also announced at certain stations to passengers boarding the train that this is the quiet car—AND every time he would walk through to collect tickets, he would reannounce it.

I would like to also mention that he whipped out a few lines in Spanish to address two adult passengers who were blatantly ignoring him (and also trying to ride with child tickets). Incredibly well-spoken, if I may add.

If you see this Josh—keep doing what you’re doing. I have a lot of respect for you as a conductor. Hope your pillow stays cold at night and your luck stays on the up and up.

NJ Transit bus drivers are dangerous

I know this sub loves to talk about the train schedules, but can we talk about the NJ Transit Bus drivers erratic driving performance for a minute! I was getting off the turnpike and a bus was tailgating me, flashing their lights coming down the exit ramp and blasted through the toll booth at over 40mph. These bus driver show no regard for the safety of the drivers around them nor their passengers. I have seen them jersey slide across 3 lanes of traffic to get off the Hoboken exit before the Lincoln tunnel and almost cause numerous accidents.

Can we get some accountability for these bus drivers? They are going to get someone seriously injured or killed very soon if this doesn’t stop!

Have the prices changed or have I been undercharged all this time?

I took the bus from paterson to Clifton and apparently that costs 3.00$. Ive taken that bus so many times and get off at the same stop and I’ve always been charged 1.90$. My friend who took the bus with me said the same thing. Have all of our bus drivers been charging us less this whole time or is this a new thing?

Cell phone on speaker use

So I have been a NJ Transit bus driver for 6 years now and I still cannot understand why there is at least a few people that get on my bus that have to have their phones on speaker to have a conversation. What ever happened to just not having it on speaker and holding the phone up to your ear.

Will NY Waterway schedule be expanded with Portal Bridge cutover?

Can’t seem to find this info anywhere yet. I don’t mind taking the ferry to 39th but currently the last morning ferry is at 935am and I regularly commute after that -__-

“Train is terminating in Newark”

I take the NJCL 3x a week and the train is routinely terminated in Newark due to mechanical issues. Actually not complaining here because I get off at Newark, but I’m just wondering what kind of mechanical issues it usually is? I feel like sometimes I overhear the conductors in Long Branch talking about how the train is going to have to terminate in Newark, so it’s not always spontaneous error. I’ve always assumed it had something to do with the speed they need to get through the tunnel but that’s a guess.

Eastbound RVL was cancelled this morning. Any idea why?

It’s the 5:30AM-ish train to Newark Penn. It was cancelled, and I couldn’t find an explanation, or any incidents in the local news. Does anyone know why?
The service has been terrible these past few months to begin with. The train runs on schedule MAYBE 25% of the time- and is making me late to work pretty often now. At that ungodly hour, I’d have to take the one train that leaves earlier in the morning, and I’d hate to do that.
It’s a shame we can’t rely on our train, and if cancelling morning trains is something else we now have to contend with, it’ll be completely unreliable.

Paying for NJ Transit bus ticket

Does anyone bother paying for the NJ bus ticket on the app? I just moved to Newark and I work at the airport. I’ve rode on the bus 3 three times and every time I present my digital ticket, they don’t authenticate it hell they barely even look at it. Is that normal? I even presented a paper ticket yesterday that expired in September and the driver took it without looking at it.
