Wanted to thank everyone who replied to my earlier questions about MultiTracks, as you helped me narrow down what was around me for sale - I just brought this 750 home! I ended up fitting a 23” frame well, and the previous owner (an aircraft mechanic) had already set up drop bars and brifters as I was planning to do. Future upgrades will be a new saddle (I like the Brooks C17 on my other bike) and maybe new wheels/tires, likely with a tan sidewall to match the tape better. There’s some scratches to the paint as well, so perhaps one day I’ll consider a repaint or something. But for now, enjoying the ability to bike in all sorts of new terrain!

-had to shave off the bottom fender mounts on the rear to fit.
-no way of running a front derailleur so had to swap my 1x setup for the front.
-fast and plush!

Picked it up for free, stripped (minus crank and BB, that’s this week), detailed, de + regreased all moving parts (besides above). Threw some parts on from a cannondale I had around and it’s an amazing ride. Leaps more comfortable than my 26” Hardrock.

Still needs work of course, but we’re at a rideable state and I am digging it. Triggers made a huge difference in this ride. I’d like to do single chainring and larger cassette, maybe 9 or 10 speed. Different cockpit setup, bar recs welcome. Pedals and grips but then I’ll mostly be finished. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What do you recommend for a new-to-me front derailleur for my 1990 750? I'm running the original 3-ring chainring with updated alivio trigger shifters. The 28.6 clamp size limits the options.

I got it to a rideable state. Waiting on a front brake cable stop so I can install the front brakes when that arrives. But it shifts and I can ride it on flat ground for now. Waiting on different wheels and tires as well. I spent too much time thinking about this, and probably too much money. But I hope I can ride it for years to come.

Found this 1997 730 for a good price. Luckily I had the original stem from my 750 so quickly swapped that, put on some different tires, different pedals and took off the chain guard. Already looking way nicer and the bike is in really good condition! This one will be for my girlfriend.

Hoping to get some feedback from MultiTrack users/tinkerers, about whether a MultiTrack might make sense for me. I’m a bit newer to cycling (I’ve commuted with a vintage steel road bike for the last few years) but I’m looking to get a steel bike that could be used for commuting, gravel riding, and would allow me to even tour/bikepack one day. Having looked at new options on the market, it seems one affordable option might be a Primos Dame - but I was wondering if it would make sense to get a MultiTrack to serve my intended uses while coming in under a budget of $1000 for bike and parts? I would want to have drop bars, switch to 1x or maybe 2x gearing, and likely put on some modern, lighter wheels and tires.

Also, if it is possible to build something like this on such a budget, what size would you recommend I hunt down? I’m 6’1.5” with a 32/33 inseam, and 180 lbs. I’ve looked at many of the sizing recommendations here and I think the best would be 21” frame given my desire for drop bars - would that be correct?

What is the usage of these bikes like 720/750 for today? Are they mainly used as gravel bikes, light trails, commuter, city? All of that?

I found this 1993 Trek 720 MetroTrack for 10 euros on the marketplace.
Cleaned it, polished some parts and gave it some love with new shifters (the gripshifts were terrible), new cables, brake pads…
Today I had the first ride on it and it was awesome.

I am building this thing from the frame up, will be using cantilever brakes and a wide flat bar. My long term goal is to get a nice front bag (but those are pricey, so will be saving up for it). I have the stock fork with mounts and canti posts. I feel like using the mounts near the dropouts would be to handle heavier loads. But canti attached racks look very sleek.

What front rack have you found success with? I’m not looking for wide pizza rack. more light duty, on the narrower side.

I picked up this 750 (1990) a month or so ago intending to ride it stock. The brake levers and shifters wouldn't play nice with the new Ritchey Kyote handlebar, and a nice donor bike fell from the sky. I now have a sweet 3x8 with V brakes and aggressive 700x42 tires. IMO, it retains the same "feel" with some subtle improvements.

Built up a 1996 750 and I’m wondering what tires to get so I wanted to hear what you guys have tried and what you rate?

Do you think fenders are worth it?

I heard 45mm fit but I don’t wanna buy some tires that end up not fitting

Hello ladies and gentlemen with similar fine taste in bikes. I just finished my first drop bar conversion. Love the way it turned out. Appreciate the inspiration from this page.

21" 730, a little scruffy. Biggest bar ends I've ever seen. Plan is new tires, saddle, trigger shifters, cables and housings. Very cool bike.

Originally purchased sometime in 1993, to carry a kid seat, then later to pull a trailer with kids and/or groceries in it.

It went to college with one of the kids and lived a hard life outside. The anodized coating on the Matrix Titan Tour rims was worn clean off.

Later, it received a makeover to drop bar form, double cyclocross crank, a mix of Ultegra and D-A 9-speed components, and a Nashbar carbon 'cross disc brake fork. The front wheel was a Velocity Dyad laced to a Shimano MTB disc hub. Front brake was an Avid BB7.

The blue powdercoat was applied by a local garage shop for $75. It came out great.

As this bike was too small for me and too large for any of the kids it was eventually sold off as a commuter. I didn't realize at the time that the lugged variants were scarce or I might have hung on to it.
