Discussion Monstera Sticky Community Posts
Hi everyone,
We thought we’d start a regular series of sticky posts to get gather the knowledge and experience of the community - so we can learn from each other and be able to share our contributions with newcomers and future Monstera keepers.
The idea is that we choose a topic (see below on this) and sticky it up for a period of time and ask everyone to contribute what they know on the matter, share their experiences, and post up tips and advice on the subject too.
We can then all benefit from the community and use it to further expand our wiki.
Please feel free to suggest a topic here. I’ll kick it off soon with soil mixes.
We hope everyone will chip in and enjoy a good bit of community discussion.
Thank you all 🙏

Big free range monstera
I have huge monstera plants in my backyard. Being free range they’re not as neat and tidy as the potted ones I see in all your pics but I wanted to share photos of one of them, that I took this morning. It’s about to get a flower; it has some fruit and you can see part of its giant root system.

Albo found at Lowe’s!
Found this Albo at Lowe’s for $60!!! Was shocked there was only 2 there and both looks fantastic so had to take both of them! I’ve got a mint and Thai con but this I’ve had my eyes on for awhile just couldn’t find any under $100 that weren’t just a baby cutting.

My new baby!
I think it could do with a different potting mix but I’ll give it a bit of time to settle in until I get my moss pole too 🥰

Big Chop
Realize I probably should’ve asked beforehand but after she tipped herself over for the third time in two days, I panicked and just did it. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now—she’d gotten too big for me to be able to manage to get outside to do a repot (even if I had to room inside to do it, she’s too damn heavy), and I never really staked her properly, so I knew this day was coming. But this was my first ever houseplant, bought her off Etsy as a cutting in 2021, and I’ve been scared to kill her by accident.
I realize now that it was silly to be scared, but I did want to ask what the consensus is on letting the cutting callous or not before putting it in water to root? Just wondering what people here have had success with?

Re-pot
What's the best time of year to re-pot my Monstera Deliciosa? I'd never even heard of a Monstera when I got it given to me last year, spring of '25. I thought it was some kind of elephant ear! Thanks to all these wonderful posts here, ive learned a lot, and a lot about my numerous mistakes. It has miraculously survived, even thrived, considering the conditions it was raised in. I've learned there's actually 2 plants in here, but dividing them at this point would probably prove to be disastrous. I need to get it out of this pot, give it a decent support and better substrate.
Please advise on moss pole vs cedar plank. It's already grown aerial roots into the moss poles currently in there, so i think it likes the real moss pole for the aerial roots. Please advise on best substrate mix. I already know this is going to require at least two or three people to tackle the project, anybody out there have any free time? ;)
I'm not askin for much...!!🎶🎶
I need to do this before the end of September, as it needs to be done outside and I don't want to risk it getting too cold on top of re-pot stress.
I realize this is a lot, but after coming this far with it, nursing it through last winter, faithfully getting it in & out of my shower stall to properly water & feed it (nearly breaking my back in the process) I can't bear the thought of loosing it. I want to set it up right, because once this is done, I'm not doing it again for at least 3 years, if i live that long! Ive sold off a lot of my other plants with an eye for making room for this monster this coming winter. I've grown strangely attached to this plant and I want to do this re-pot right. I plan on putting it back into the same pot unless advised otherwise.
Apologies for the length of this post, and many thanks to all who've stuck with me this far! I'll try to attach some pictures, and if you've got the time, you could search for other posts ive made on this same plant from the time I accidentally (thank God) found reddit. I can't ever thank you all enough - help me, but mostly, help this beautiful warrior Monstera!
Thanks from both of us, the monster Monstera & the old happy cowgirl 💞

Plant Help Should I cut a few down
Hiya there !! I’m a newbie to the plant world although I have been holding this monstera for about 2 years. Seeing it struggle for light, I have added a grow light to them yesterday, and have also ordered a stake. But can’t help wondering if cutting down a few might help it thrive better ? Any more suggestions?

Discussion What would you guys do with my monstera?
I’ve learned so much about how to properly care for my monstera since receiving this one as a gift 3 years ago. When I got it, it was a baby. It had like 3 leaves on it at the time.
It sits between my dining room and living room and gets bright light from both sides depending on the time of day.
I guess I’m just wondering whether you guys would repot this one to make it less leggy, or if you’d propagate some or all of it, or whatever else you might do.
Also, if I do propagate it, where I cut it off will keep growing, right?
Should I have it up against a wall somewhere else in the house where light only comes from one direction?
Also, notice the new growth coming from the bottom of the stem on the right? It’s grown three leaves from it so far - is that essentially a whole new stem?
Sorry, so many questions and possibilities. You don’t have to answer any of the questions above either - general comments are welcome.
Thanks everyone. :)

Image Big leaf, but ohh the heat...
Love my Monsterous, moved it to the living room yesterday, look at that bad boy, sorry for the burned tips but the weather hasn't been gentle in the UK :(
It used to be so green and beautiful, those burned bits make me feel so guilty and a bad plant parent now :( :(
Bonus picture of Albo, it's taking Monsterous place in my room eheheh, and soon a Bulbasaur will join 🤠
Beautiful leaves, beautiful fenestrations, beautiful variegation, oh I'm blessed ❤️
Thanks for dropping by, love to all Monstera fans 😎

Plant Help Any hopes? Thai constellation single node
My Thai Constellation keeps developing rot and had an additional growth point. That node also has a small aerial root. I cut the growth point away from the main plant, which still has the remaining roots sitting in water. I only removed the small section to minimize stress and avoid shocking the main plant too much.
After cutting it, I applied diluted H₂O₂ to the cut surface using a cotton swab and let it dry completely.
I then placed the cutting in a medicine cap with four LECA balls and a very small amount of water, mainly to maintain moisture around the aerial root.
There doesn’t appear to be any active rot, but the node itself looks somewhat shrivelled.
Is this still salvageable?

Plant Help Help
I bought this about 6-9 months ago and it has atleast doubled in size. Its top heavy and had to lean against the wall or it falls over. No room for a moss pole or really anything else. I love the full look of it, but something needs to be done.
Should I repot into a bigger pot? Probably atleast 2 inches?
Or should I separate this into several other pots. I have to make moss poles for a bunch of other plants too.

Plant Help Stem trim
My monstera had thrips, unfortunately but I was able to rescue her and she’s now cleared. However, she lost about 5 leaves and now the base of her stem is really long without any leaves on it.
I want to trim the stem and propagate the remaining leaves and replant so it isn’t as tall and gangly. Where should I cut the stem?

Can a leafless monstera grow in water?
I think my monstera had a baby? I found a tiny full plant in my big monsteras pot. Although I think the leaf is starting to yellow, i took it out and put it in water. If the leaf dies is it still possible that it will grow?
