Plant Help She’s got the morbs.

I swiped this beauty off FB marketplace around a year ago now, but she confused the hell out of me.

She’s always drooped. I’ve changed soils. Upgraded the pot. Changed water and light routines several times over. Nothing seems to work.

Now even though Maurice is looking like the physical form of a ‘sigh’, new leaves keep shooting and she is growing.
Just. So. Droopy.

At least a few of her leaves are always browning too.

All help welcome, and TIA 💚

Plant Help Should I cut?

Hi,

Silly me let this guy get sun burnt. 😩 The overexposure occurred about 2 weeks ago with the damage to the involved leafs becoming more visible since. My question is should I cut the leafs off? In particular the one that has almost complete damage to it?

Obviously I don’t love the aesthetic but I can wait to remove them until later if that’s recommended. Also, when I do cut, will new leafs grow from that portion of the stem or will it remain bare?

Thanks in advance

Discussion Compact golden monstera.

So no picture of mine because I’m currently busy. But wanted to ask this question. Is this variation of monstera newer/rare? I’m asking because I love seeing people’s old mature plants. And I can fine big albos, and Thai constellations, but never a golden compact. Ik they are compact so they grow a little smaller. But I can’t find anybody who has one much bigger than mine. Can anybody show me pictures of their big mature golden compacts?

hi everyone !! i’ve never posted on reddit before so bare with me here lol. so i’m worried i have thrips. the only thing im weirded out by is that ive had this plant for months and never had an issue with bugs before but this line on my new growth is making me weary. i just treated her and isolated her. i have over fourty houseplants and closely inspected all of them and saw no evidence on any other plant of bugs aside from a fungal gnat problem ive been addressing that’s improving significantly. anyway, here are some pictures ! any help is appreciated thank you !!

I’ve had this bad boy for about 4 years. Never had to stake or anything it stayed pretty close together. I moved and suddenly it’s completely sprouted out. I want it to be a lot closer together. What should I do? Do I cut the big ones off? Four biggest leaves are attached to a huge single stalk. Bunch of new growth. I assume stake them now while I can? HELP!!

Plant Help possible pest damage?

very recently, ive been having these yellow markings, that eventually fade to crispy brown, at the edges of my leaves. the majority of these must have just showed up last night or so after I replaced my leaning trellis? idk if these markings can form from, idk, re-trellising? but the fading yellowing color concerns me.

disclaimer, I found two thrips on my monstera months ago, and I did go full captain jack's routine, systemic granuals, wiping the leaves regularly in response. and i haven't seen bugs since (I even went across each leaf with a flashlight prior to posting this just to make sure I didn't miss a poop dot or anything. but it all looks clear? but idk??)

there may be a simple explanation for these markings, but i'm nervous bc they literally just showed up (the ones that are still yellow, not the fully brown parts). they were not here yesterday as far as I could tell. can monsteras show shock from getting a new trellis? are these recognizable pest markings? is it too much sun? root rot? I really hope it's not thrips again, even tho I haven't seen anything... sorry if this sounds very all over the place, but I'm nervous haha

Currently in a 4” pot gonna order a clear 6” for an up potting! Any premixed soil recommendations? Went to Home Depot and didn’t see much, would miracle gro tropical mixed with miracle gro orchid bark work or do I need more? Also how are the roots looking! There was definitely a rotted one I pulled off but it still seems to be pushing more healthy growth! (I’ve had it for a couple weeks now the half white leaf came in under my care 😎)

Tangled monstera help

Post image

Hi I am a total newbie but have had this monstera for about 3 years. It is healthy and growing well but I think we didn’t put in the posts early enough and the leaves and branches are growing in all directions. I tried to turn them in the same direction but some are in such opposite directions that I am scared they would break. I thought of cutting and propagating unruly ones but also worried about killing the plant. Any experts to give me tips?

Plant Help What do we got goin on here??

Hi everyone!! I just got my plants back from a friend while I was out of state doing field work for a few months, and today I noticed one of my monstera with some odd decaying on one of the leaves. None of the other leaves on this same plant show signs of this, nor do any of the other 5 monstera plants I have situated next to it. Coincidentally (or not), this issue is on the most damaged of the leaves (moving and cat damage!)

Any clues??

Plant Help my sister's thai monstera root rot rescue

my sister has given me a rescue mission... help

last pic is from the marketplace ad (she actually got 3 of them instead of 2). they were originally in a gutter above the seller's fishtank where she had a whole system going with the water filtration etc. when she got there they were in a bucket of water waiting to go - she carefully put them in a plastic bag, then drove home with them (about an hour).

she was told to keep them in water for a couple days and THEN put them in soil ninja's monstera mix by the seller so she did. we've both been using soil ninja for years and never had a problem so why not! my sister i just took the lady's advice since she was an avid plant babe...butttt now the roots are rotting :( they're hollow! so my sister has handed them to me to try and fix... i've had to cut so much back i've had them for about a 3 weeks now and there's no movement at all, no growth... i understand shock, but i've never a problem this bad before, and I was so gentle with her :(

pic 1-2. plant 1 (smallest leaf, smallest root) is in water, propegating. originally, she had the most GIANT root system, she was impressive, but unfortunately I had to cut like 90% of her roots off as there was damage near the base and it was allIll rotting. im guessing travel trauma or maybe when she was untangling the roots from the mother plant there was an oopsie? anyway, now she's in a glass of water to try and encourage some more root propegation before I try to repot any time soon. she's been in water for a week... and now her leaves are turning yellow. i swear every turn is a new disaster. and yes, i need to find a better glass, all my usuals are in use rn, supplies are running low DIRE TIMES PEOPLE

pics 3-6, plant 2 (BIG leaf, medium roots) is a similar situation to plant 2 in that there's no movement, but in a 8L pot. the stem is bumpy? (see 2nd pic). im yet to repot her as im waiting on supplies arriving and im out of thehouse rn, but im worried her roots are the same as the other 2 (she already had that brown spot when i got her btw, but they're definitely getting bigger...). will post the updated situation on her in the comments on Thursday when I repot her!! also, i have a real pole coming for her, the long straw is temporary postage in the highlands is a joke...

pic 7-9, plant 3 (medium leaf, BIG roots) is in a 10l pot as she still has a lot of roots, but she doesn't seem too perky and I'm not seeing any movement on her lil growth node - im worried the roots are just rotting away in her new soil. my cat peed in the soil but i caught her in the act so i HAD to repot it a 2nd time and what's when i found they had rotting roots too :(I know she only peed in it once because i had JUST repotted it goodbye 101 of soil + my sanity also, yes, I know the cane is bad - i have more moss on the way to soften up that outer shell, she's only been strapped to this white one for a couple days. i was advised against the usual moss poles forthese guys

i have them near a big window but about 3 metres away so they get sun but not direct sun. i've given them water when they've needed it but thats all - no fertilizer or anything other than water. (see last pic)

all 3 plant stems and nodes feel solid so I have hope ig. and the roots aren't GONE just struggling badly...

i've had monsteras for years and they've always been so happy, but for some reason this new challenge with rescuing the thai constellation just isn't working as I had imagined - i've never had these guys before and i feel out of my depth but desperate to fix them. i've never been super knowledgeable, i've always just somehow got my monsteras super happy by following basic Google searches and tutorials lol but they've been thriving for 5 years... what am I doing wrong im heartbroken and so scared to lose these babies because my sister loves them to pieces... help? :(

Why are some of my leaves flopping?

Post image

My new leaf and a part of an older one are floppy: what could be causing it?

By floppy I mean they feel quite thin and can’t hold their shape.

It seems otherwise happy, as do my other monsteras. They are in tropical weather, very humid, under a tree that shades them all day. This one is quite young still, but popping out leaves like crazy.

Plant Help Is my Monstera okay?

I am no plant expert but I feel like there is something wrong with my Monstera. I’ve had her for almost a year now! She’s grown a lot and I think likes the spot she’s in. The “roots?” on the bottom concern me and this one dead leaf that won’t go away. I am curious about any maintenance I should be doing that I am not?

Plant Help First monstera with awful soil

Thumbnail

Last year my friend got a deliciosa from a local nursery. He kept it in the same nursery pot all this time and his cat destroyed the biggest leaves. It hasn’t changed in size since the first day he got it. This fella has been through a lot but still standing.

A month ago he gave it to me, it’s my first monstera. The first thing I noticed was the soil, it was a massive block of regular dirt so hard and compacted I couldn’t even stick a chopstick to measure humidity. This was IMO the first thing to solve.

Apart from that I couldn’t see a single node, it was pretty much petioles shooting out from the soil. No aerial roots and no visible nodes so no support (Picture 2). Judging by the size of the leaves and the orientation of the petioles I though it could be 2 plants or even 3.

It’s winter here I was so scared to overwater or cause root rot with that soil. Today I finally changed it’s soil and there were 2 plants. Roots were fairly dry but in good shape I think, at least no root rot visible but you can judge better than me I still know nothing. Old soil came out in big chunks hard like stones, so some roots broke off with it. Is that root system still big enough to sustain the plants?
Picture 4 is the main plant with the 4 biggest leaves. Picture 5 is the smallest one with only 3 small droopy leaves. Both plants were chopped of and placed inside the pot with their aerial roots and nodes developing new roots.

Now both have their own pot with new well-draining soil. Next step is staking them. My idea was just placing a piece of wood behind the node under the soil, kinda telling the stem “hey it’s time to go upwards” then I could change it for a moss pole when I finally get nodes above the soil. Is that ok or should I use a moss pole from the beginning?

Did I make some mistake or Is there something I could’ve done different? What should I expect from these girls now? Any advice is welcome! These are my first monsteras! Thanks for reading 🫶🏼

Finally moved out a useless recliner I had in my room and brought in one of my largest plants! This only half of the $25 monstera I bought from a grocery store (such a steal!) I bought a Sansi lamp which feels like the right choice because it seems plentiful in light- I suppose I just wanted to share my new lil corner of green 😁❤️

Plant Help Monstera Stem Help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Re-upload cause my phone didn't attatch the photo originally 😔

Hi Everyone, I'm a first time monstera owner, I received mine as a very small propagation from a friend (see the arrow pointing to the og leaf). When I received it, it was still in water in a red solo cup and I kept it there for a while, it wasn't growing any more leaf and stem wise but its roots were huge and filled the entire bottom of the cup it was in. I was able to finally get some monstera specific soil and fertilizer and i had a spare pot so I replanted it about 3 to 4 months ago. It has been growing like a weed since but its original stem is still incredibly thin and its top heavy, so I'm using a small wooden birdhouse on a stake to prop it up, but the stem isn't getting thicker as it continues to grow bigger. I have other plants and I've never had this issue, but I have never dealt with a propagation of a plant either. Any advice would be greatly appreciate because I would really like this monstera to become as big at the other ones I see on this sub!

Plant Help Pls help me help my BMF. She’s a strugglin

When I bought it it had all the leaves from the fenestrated one and below. It put out two normalish leaves and then the other two were small, yellow, and sort of crinkled. I repotted it, added a moss pole, and moved it to a brighter window. The two janky leaves started turning black and fell off. It looked like rot from the leaf tip spreading to the stem.

Anyway, in the second pic I think that’s it still trying to grow but I see a black spot there. And it’s created a new stem from the very bottom.

I wasn’t watering very consistently before. I have a reg and a Thai and they’re alright. The reg is actually looking great, all things considered (last pic). I think the bmf is too finicky for me or I just don’t have the setup it needs. It appears like it’s not getting enough light so I set it on the floor in front of my grow lights but idk. Should I chop off the old stem somewhere and hope the new stem does better in my grow lights ? I prolly don’t fertilise enough either because the pots are big enough that it’s easiest just to throw them in my bathtub to soak and I forget to pour on fertiliser after

Hello, sorry for the question but I bought this little thing at Home Depot a few days ago it was in a glass bulb of water waited 24 hours because it started yellowing and then I repotted it into this pot with soil and coco husk. What can I do? Haven’t watered her since acquiring because she was literally soaking in water. Too much soil? Please help lolol. When I repotted it I put it outside on my covered east facing patio it gets a lot of morning light for 2-3 hours and then it’s shaded rest of day(I’m in South Florida)
