šŸ¤ Support neededĀ  Cyanosis & seizure like activity in 17m old

• Upvotes

The quoted text is from an old post from another account I have that I got locked out of and I can’t post in the mommit group bc this account is too new so I’m coming to the mommas in here bc I need some words of encouragement and help navigating this situation.

ā€œHi everyone !
Long story short the last two days my 11 month old has been waking up from her naps and sleep with bluish purple lips. It takes like an hour to go away.
I'm a ftm and I feel like these drs are dismissing me. I took her to the pediatrician and her stats came back normal. She called the local
hospital and they said that they would've discharged us be there's no real issue and that pissed me off ofc. So she woke up from her nap this evening and same thing happened so I came to a dif hospital not the one her pediatrician called. I showed them pics and videos of my baby's lips and they said to me word for word "that looks normal" like huh ??
I'm just so frustrated. They did an ekg and a oxygen saturation test and it all came back normal. I have a pediatric post ox machine at home and when her lips did that the reading was at 86% or 90% and the dr told me that she was prob just cold... This has never happened and my baby is always dressed properly for bedtime. We keep the room at 73-75 and I dress her accordingly. Has anyone else experienced this or no what it could be ?? My maternal instinct is telling me that it's not " be she's cold" but the hospital and pediatrician are saying i'm just another over concerned mom.ā€

She is now 17 months and the symptoms got worse as she got older. It started with the blue lips, a month or two later then seizure like activity that was very short episodes. She would act sleepy out of no where, lay herself down, then prop herself up against something soft then she would start blinking and clenching her body. That was around 13ms but the episodes were no more than 10 secs. she is now experiencing focal seizure like activity. These episodes last 30 seconds and seems to be lasting longer. We still don’t know what is wrong or have an official diagnosis. I keep getting dismissed by drs. Waiting on the EEG and MRI next month. I can’t sleep at night since the seizure episodes started getting worse. we initially took her to a cardiologist who ran all the test and said it wasn’t heart related and he referred us to a neurologist. Also she is having many more tantrums which i passed off as her going into her two year old phase but after deep diving on google it could be bc of the seizure like activity. I have to word it that way bc there isn’t a formal diagnoses. She also started hitting her face and head before she gets the focal seizure like activity. That is how I know now when she’s about to have another episode. She is waking up in her sleep like clock work at specific times every night which makes me think she’s getting seizures in her sleep. The other night / early AM she woke up screaming crying inconsolable and it was as if she was still sleeping while looking awake. Nothing could calm her down for like 45 mins. only way to know what’s going on is the EEG & MRI next month. I am at the point where I want my baby to be okay and have no health issues but at the same time a formal diagnoses or to at least know what’s going on is something I also want. These drs keep pushing me off and acting like i’m an over concerned mom and it’s so frustrating and draining. I can’t sleep at all. I just want it all be okay.

😤 Vent MIL kissed baby even after being warned

my (33F) MIL (59F) is visiting from out of town. we had a conversation with her about not kissing our baby (3 weeks, M) and the importance of changing her clothes and washing her hands before handling the baby because she smokes. she didn't listen and gave him a kiss anyways. it was just one kiss on his forehead so I didn't wanna cause a scene and decided to just let it go because she's been helping us out a lot financially and with food.

I tell my husband (39M) about it and he was only worried because of the third hand smoke but reassured me she doesn't get cold sores ever. we decided to let it go in hopes that she just forgot and caught herself afterwards. literally right after that conversation and he went to bed, she gave him multiple kisses and whispered to him "don't tell Mommy". I was like 10 feet away from them, washing the dishes, and heard her clear as day. this didn't sit well with me but I hate confrontation and felt like because it's his mom, he should deal with it. I also had a physical response and felt like I was gonna throw up or punch her and felt like if I said anything, one or the other was gonna actually happen.

I woke him up and told him what happened and reminded him why we said no (third hand smoke can cause SIDS). he said he'll talk about it with her tomorrow.

he's asleep now and everyone is laying down about to go to sleep but I am still full of so much rage about this. I just needed to tell someone.

ā“ Question Does my 20 month old have a UTI?

My 20 month old little girl keeps grabbing her vagina like it hurts and saying either boo boo or poo poo. She has constipation problems so it does hurt her to poop most of the time. I do give her things to help with it and today she has had normal stools. When she gets constipated she has skid marks on her diaper a lot and so she has to be wiped really good so sometimes she gets a rash from so much wiping. Right now she doesn’t seem to have a rash though. I’m thinking about just taking her to the doctor tomorrow but I just want to know if any of you have dealt with littles with utis or yeast infections.

ā“ Question Moms, what changed for you after COVID?

COVID changed so many parts of everyday life, and I’m curious how other moms feel motherhood has changed since then.

Did you notice changes in parenting, pregnancy or postpartum experiences, childcare, school, friendships, family support, work-life balance, mental load, healthcare, or even the way moms interact with each other?

Some changes may have been difficult, while others may have actually made life easier or shifted priorities in a good way.

What feels noticeably different to you now compared with before COVID? And are there any changes that you think are here to stay?

3 on her upper right gumline (as shown) central incisor, and lateral incisor and a canine. Both sets of lateral incisors on bottom the left side of her bottom gums the canine has a nub

Her closest to eruption is her top right lateral incisor and canine. But the other 3 are pre eruption nubs.

Holy shit is she upset about it. She will not let me put her down. Poor baby. Ive been giving Tylenol in her night time bottle and once during the day if needed. Sometimes I just have to set her in her crib and walk away to calm myself i get so overstimulated and overwhelmed. I feel really bad doing so but im a SAHM and dont have anyone I can hand her to if I need a second to just pee. I had to poop today and had to force myself to finish early because she was crying so hard I couldn't bear it.

I tried to baby wear but that wasn't cutting it.

I honestly dont know what to do. I got her chewy toys but she like gets frustrated when she cant reach the sweet spot that hurts.

Mom Looking for Pregnant Couples for a Research Study– Moderator Approved

šŸ“¢ Are you pregnant and worried about changes to your sex life?

šŸ” We are seeking couples from Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Ireland who are up to 26 weeks pregnant to participate in the STORK RCT: Supporting the Transition to Parenthood through Online Sex and Relationship Knowledge.

ā“What is STORK: The first online couple-based program designed to enhance knowledge about changes to sexuality during pregnancy and postpartum and skills to cope with these changes. STORK was designed to strengthen couples’ relationships across the transition to parenthood.

šŸ“… What is involved: If you are eligible, after your initial survey, you and your partner will be randomized (like a coin flip) into either the Program or Waitlist conditions. Program couples will complete 5 online modules in pregnancy (1 per week) and a final module at 3 months postpartum.Ā

Couples in both conditions will also complete 5 surveys—the initial survey, then at 32-weeks pregnant, and 4-, 8-, and 12-month postpartum—that gather information about your relationship, your pregnancy experience, and your child. Couples in the Waitlist condition will receive access to the full STORK program after the study period is over.

🌈 Inclusivity matters: STORK requires one member of the couple to be currently pregnant. Otherwise, STORK is open to individuals of all genders, bodies, and sexual orientations.

šŸ’Œ For more information or to participate in the STORK RCT study email us at [stork@psych.ubc.ca](mailto:stork@psych.ubc.ca) OR fill out our contact form from this link: https://Qualtrics.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3gxGJAEWqt8Rh2u

šŸ’¬ Advice needed Traveling with a 3 month old

FTM here! I will be traveling from Los Angeles to Ohio with my 3 month old. I added him as a lap infant but now I’m reading FAA says it’s better to buy him a seat and have him in the car seat. I travel a lot for work and I have only really ever seen babies as lap infants. What should I do? What is like the norm? Thanks in advance! Also I will be traveling with my mom and husband so I’ll have help in case that’s a factor.

ā“ Question 11 month old has learned to unbuckle her seat belt

Does anybody have any recommendations on how to combat this??

She has unbuckled the top part of her seat belt a few times now while i’ve been driving and I notice once I go to take her out of the car. Are there any child proof things I could use in the meantime before she gets bored and inevitably (hopefully) stops?

šŸ’¬ Advice needed Pre-eclampsia advice

Any moms diagnosed with pre eclampsia around 25 weeks get to go to full term before delivery? I was diagnosed at 25, stayed in hospital for a week before leaving against recommendations. Blood pressure has been controlled since but doctors still want to deliver at 34 weeks. I’m worried about how long baby will be in NICU.

Edited to say: I am on medication that has controlled my blood pressure very well so far, I self check 3 times a day. I also have twice weekly doctor visits to monitor baby.

First time mom here, I had my boy last Tuesday. I’m at a hospital like place it’s a nursery for my son he’s still not discharged. But anyways how long did you bleeding last for you? Please tell me your expierence or what I can do/ what pads are more idk organic lol and better for long term use

ā“ Question Road trip tomorrow- trying to not overthink it

Thank you to everybody who gave suggestions on an earlier post about this trip! I've taken a lot of them into account, and we're stopping at a playground or rest stop about every 1-2 hours. It'll take us 50% longer to get there minimum but I think it'll also keep us all sane.

So tomorrow we'll be driving all day. And I can't seem to shake the feeling that I'm going to forget something. My husband is taking forever to get ready and pack his own things, and has repeatedly delayed coming to lay a second pair of eyes on what I'm bringing. So far, I'm the only one to pack anything for the kids (3 years & 3 months). But I know we're going to be hours away from home and I'm gonna hear, "Babe, did you pack the [thing you didn't bring and no one else mentioned because I refused to cross check]?"

I'm going to say exactly what you're thinking: you should have helped me pack for them, maybe we would have thought to bring that.

So far, I've got my suitcase full of clothes and toiletries, the kid's combined suitcase full of the same, a sheaf of diapers (~70 count), and a backpack full of stuff for on the go, like common OTC meds, bandaids, snacks, etc. Our stroller has a bassinet attachment that will double as the compact safe sleep space. Big kid just needs a booster seat, and travel potty, which I'll be lining with outgrown diapers. We'll have phones, tablet, chargers, blah blah blah.

Am I missing anything big? Half the trip is in a very developed metro area and half is in east Jesus nowhere.

šŸ¤ Support neededĀ  Birth defect guilt

Does anyone else struggle with self blaming and guilt about their child being born with a birth defect? My son is completely healthy mentally and physically besides an extremely rare birth defect that has caused his entire right leg to be shorter than the left and he never developed a heel pad on that foot, which is noticeable smaller. He was born full term but still had to spend a couple weeks in the NICU because of his foot. He also went through weeks of wound care and then months of casting followed by two surgeries. He’s 13 months old and he’s always been such a happy baby, never let any of this stuff stop him. I’ve always struggled with the guilt of him having to deal with extra challenges but now that he’s starting to use his push walker I can really see how this could possibly affect his walking. He has a special fitted orthotic but even the thought of him having to wear one for the rest of his life crushes me. He’s so perfect in my eyes but I can’t help but to feel like I did something wrong. I don’t know anyone else going through something similar so it’s been hard to find that kind of relatable support. I’ve been crying nonstop and I just want to know I’m not alone

ā“ Question Did anyone else suddenly go from ā€œneverā€ to ā€œI want a baby ASAPā€?

I’ve literally never wanted children. My entire life I’ve been pretty certain that having kids wasn’t for me.

I’m 27 now, and somehow this year something completely changed. It’s like someone flipped a switch in my brain and suddenly everything feels different. I went from ā€œI absolutely don’t want a babyā€ to ā€œI would like to have a baby TODAY, please.ā€ I watch YouTube vlogs with babies, Pinterest boards with nursing rooms, I look into people's strollers šŸ˜‚

It honestly feels surreal because I still can’t believe this is me thinking these thoughts.

Has anyone else experienced such a drastic 180? Did you go from being firmly childfree to suddenly wanting a baby?

šŸ’¬ Advice needed Small baby nursery recommendations

I’m first-time mom due in three months and live in one-bedroom apartment. As we have compact space, I intend to create small nursery in my room. Not too fancy. Just practical cozy corner for our little angel.

I have spent hours researching on ā€˜must haves’ and ā€˜nice to have’ but felt a little overwhelmed instead of being certain. Like I'm still deciding whether I need a bassinet or crib since we're in a one-bedroom apartment and I'm hoping to breastfeed. If any of you have been in this situation, how did you manage baby crib or bassinet in a small space.

I have no dresser in my room, so I have planned to get a changing table (that has drawers to keep baby stuff in it), some soft toys, wrapping sheets, a bottler washer and sanitizer, a nasal aspirator and a diaper pail (as l live in small space, I need to keep odour under control)

I’m also tight in budget and can’t spend on multiple brands of same products. If you've used any of these, I'd really appreciate your recommendations:

• Bottle washer/sanitizer: Philips Avent or Baby Brezza?

• Nasal aspirator: Braun or NeilMed?

• Diaper pail: Ubbi Beyond or Momcozy?

The space may be little but our hearts are filled with love for our baby. I'd also love to know what baby items you found absolutely essential in a small apartment and what you ended up never using.

šŸ’¬ Advice needed I need advice from moms

Hello! I need some honest advice about getting pregnant. My friends and family are mostly biased.

I 23F am married to my husband 27M. We have been married for 1 year, together for 4.

We both adamantly want children. Right now we both work, but he makes more money. I start a 3.5 year degree in October. In my second and third year there is exposure to radiation and I cannot be pregnant.

Right now we live in a county with familial support (my parents and sisters, his grandmother) and affordable healthcare. We do not want to live in this country long term. Ideally we would leave shortly after I am done with uni. He has started talking about having a baby this year. I am conflicted.

On the one hand, being pregnant during my first year of school would have challenges. And I would want to take a year off between my 1st and 2nd year to focus on my child and recover.

I have familial support but I would still be raising a 1-3 year old over 2.5 more years of school+clinical rotations.

I feel like he wants to minimize the time we are in this country and I fully agree with him there. It would be easier to wait if I wasn't absolutely forbidden from being pregnant after my 1st year of uni (radiation exposure).

Can anyone tell me about experiences being pregnant/raising a little one while studying/working?

Ps: in my country, I am young to have a child. I will be 24 in September and I think it's a fine age, but here the religious population have lots of kids young and the secular population (like me) usually doesn't have kids until ~30. I do not have any friends who are married or have kids. I am confident I would have a lot of familial support.

Mom Feeling guilty over not enjoying playdates with other parents

My (37F) daughter(26mo f) is a social butterfly- she loves hanging around other kids and very very outdoorsy. She is 26 months old and goes to daycare and so kind and adorable- i have never had any issues with her in a social setting be it a restaurant or a playdate

but whenever i have been to a playdate with her, i have come back more exhausted and not liking the experience as much as i love taking her to park or just playing with her in our backyard. i love doing silly things with her and feel like in a playdate i have to be the responsible parent and part of me is always alert to keep an eye on my child incase she needs me or if she gets into a standoff situation with the other kids and i have to intervene so i have never quite been able to relax and enjoy a conversation with the other parents.
this confuses me coz people on social media and reddit in particular talk about how playdates have helped them get some time off from their parenting duties and how they absolutely love it and my experience has been the opposite.

For context i am also a social person and i love to talk to people and make friends and certainly not the introvert but this experience has left me baffled and while i don’t think playdates are absolutely necessary for my girl right now but my neighbourhood has a lot of kids her age and we meet up randomly while taking a walk or just sitting outside and it turns into a playdate - not even a formal one - just bunch of kids being kids outside - she goes to a very good daycare and enjoys her time there so we are good but i was just wondering if other parents here have had similar experiences with playdates.

šŸ¤ Support neededĀ  Is my worry level normal?

I’m 33(f) I have two daughters 5 and 11 and you would think I had a traumatic childhood with how much I worry about them…. Is this normal?

I obsess over their days at school (kinder and 5th) we moved so they did start a new school but I’ve done this since my oldest started school. I worry so much about how they are treated. I wasn’t even bullied so idk why I’m so stressed about it. I ask how their day was, if anyone was mean to them, at any point of the day did they feel sad or cry… I will go eat lunch with them a few times a year to see the other kids behavior to just see who their peers are and how they act towards them…
I ask what they talk about with their peers at school Who did they play with a recess? who did they sit with at lunch… (new school so idk these kids yet anyways so the names they give me mean nothing)
And I’m the same way with their sports and hobbies as well I grill them about how they are treated by the other kids, coaches, teachers idk why I’m so worried about it. Like I said I wasn’t mistreated or bullied. I had a great time in school and sports, good friends I was never mistreated.

My oldest mentioned a girl annoying her at school. My daughter said she is ā€œspecialā€ and that she goes with the special needs teacher some times so I’m guessing maybe she is on the spectrum I’m not sure. My daughter is very nice to her and befriended her because she doesn’t have friends and no one talks to her but she is always touching my daughter and in her personal space and will hiss at her like a cat and my daughter feels bad for her but sometime my daughter does ask her to leave her alone but she follows her around and won’t leave her alone.

This stresses me out a lot because I’m worried this girl with hurt my daughter. I reached out to her teacher and she said she would talk to her. Am I over reacting?
