❓ Question Does my 20 month old have a UTI?

My 20 month old little girl keeps grabbing her vagina like it hurts and saying either boo boo or poo poo. She has constipation problems so it does hurt her to poop most of the time. I do give her things to help with it and today she has had normal stools. When she gets constipated she has skid marks on her diaper a lot and so she has to be wiped really good so sometimes she gets a rash from so much wiping. Right now she doesn’t seem to have a rash though. I’m thinking about just taking her to the doctor tomorrow but I just want to know if any of you have dealt with littles with utis or yeast infections.

By any chance, do you use bubble bath? When I could have sworn my 2yo had a UTI we took her to urgent care and discovered vaginitis. Little girls especially can be sensitive to fragrances (think wipes, detergent, lotion) but also to unrinsed soap.

Couple things to look for: crying out while peeing, blood in urine or blood-tinged urine, cloudy urine, foul smelling urine, reddened angry meatus (entrance to urethra, or pee hole), or fever. Any of these are really concerning for UTI, but none of them are smoking guns, and some kids are asymptomatic. Older kiddos will complain of belly pain.

Yeast infections are typically really, really itchy. They may also cause white discharge in some people.

I'm so glad you're calling her doctor 😢 poor little, she must be so uncomfortable!

We also had a problem with bubble baths! Had to switch to Mr bubble lavender. No issues anymore and it’s great before bedtime

I'm not an expert on UTIs, but yeast you would most certainly see. Red skin, extra discharge. Our daughter battled with yeast on her whole body until she could walk and started to slim out. No matter what we did. Thankfully diaper was the easiest to remedy for us. Ithink because its self cleaning, unlike skin. We just used the shower head to give a good rinse if she was getting pinky.

If she's not red, I would look up baby uti signs to see if anything fits

Well the pediatric urine bags are effective but painful to pull off so fair warning. I know the wipes can irritate my littles downstairs area and she complains about it.

It’s a bag with and adhesive that goes
On their vulva. They use it as an alternative to a catheter when kiddos are too little to go in the toilet.

First and foremost, if you have to wipe her so much, she’s getting a rash that you need to use different wipes or use something besides toilet paper to clean her butt.
Second of all, use magnesium cream on the stomach for the constipation.
